GE profile oven keypad not working easy DIY $0 fix
Просмотров 339 тыс.8 лет назад
Here is some good stuff! I fixed my own oven keypad, saved me $150 or more over replacing it. Only tools needed is a 1/4 inch ratchet!
Thank you for your video, I did get my button to work very briefly, I think I may need to replace that ribbon cable, can I buy it on amazon?
You sir are a hero!! Saved me from buying a new oven!! Thank you!!
Thanks for the video. Saved me a ton of money!!
2012 ge profile stainless oven, flipping the breaker fixed it.
Ge builds a good work horse. Their problems really from what i see is wiring harness failure. Several models ive come across had unidentifiable wire harness issue and this was with GE service tech assist on the phone
I tried this and ended up with an error F760 after turning the power back on meaning our circuit board is now shorted and we now need a whole new oven 😟. Be careful doing this if most of the buttons are working. I was just trying to get the warming drawer and clock buttons to work again.
Yup, thanks. Different oven, same problem
Mine does even have a ribbon on it ???
Worked for me, thank you
glad I could help!
Excellent!
Thank you! 2023 here. Your video saved me hundreds! My plus button stopped working completely. My GE was slightly different, but I followed your concept. I didn’t have a ribbon cable but rather multiple individual cables. I unplugged each cable and simply plugged it back in. I think there were 6 cables total? Didn’t know which was the culprit was so I did all of them. Problem solved! Note: there were 3 cables I could not disconnect. I could have figured it out, but I didn’t want to risk damaging the circuit board. So I just wiggled them gently. Also, if you drop screws likely they are in the oven drawer😊
glad it was of some help!
Would this also work for a GE PG2930SEL1SS stove? We have the touchscreen control on the front of our stove which is only displaying a "J" at the moment with no access to any of the other buttons. Mind you, thanksgiving day is tomorrow!
All good comments , I only have one number that does not work when I press it
Yep ! worked....Thank you for posting !!
glad to hear it helped you!
I have a GE Monogram similar to this. After removing the bottom screws I can only push it up so far before it stops (about an inch) and I can't get it off the lugs. Is there some to trick to it, or do I need to force it up?
Hi, just wondering what kind of screwdriver you are using?
Your solution worked perfectly on my 18yo GE JT912 oven, which was losing touch sensitivity. I also remembered using a similar technique in the '70's on old style computer CRT terminals located in a sooty steel mill environment... using the same soft rubber eraser procedure, achieved about 50% success bringing them back to life. Thanks for the easy to-do tip. and I probably saved $150 minimum service call, plus parts (or, a new $1,600 or so oven).
I have this exact touchpad and unfortunately this fix did not work for me. I am trying to find a replacement part, but have been unable to find the part. Can anyone provide a link if you had to replace yours? Thanks.
Thank you so much for the excellent video. I was looking to see how I could possibly fix my oven if it ever failed. I’m still under warranty, however, it’s due to expire soon and they want just too much money to extend it. Just knowing how to get to the controls of the oven is a tremendous help!
Can the clock modular be unplugged from the control board or will it be necessary to replace the whole board. The clock is running very fast not keeping accurate time
Thank you for the walk-through on the removal of the panel.
glad to know it helped
It is possible that flipping the circuit breaker to power off the oven first is what actually fixed it. Sort of like a reboot for the control panel.
it was the first time in a long time that my wife said I was good for something. Thank you so much. God bless.
heh good job thanks
Make sure you disconnect the power cable from the electrical outlet I removed it without unplugging it and I was unplugging it and one of the cables touch the metal part and the light of the house went out. Big mistake from my part not unplugging the oven from the outlet
Dude, next time be on the safer side. Disconnect the appliance before working on it. Electrical shock can kill instantly
fair point, I did shut off power before I did the actual work
You took more time to make this video than it took me to fix my oven. Thanks for the popping front off tip, so easy after that. We now can use the bake and broil buttons again. Wooohooo!
glad i could offer some help!

Thanks for the video!! It sure did the trick!
RESET your Breaker in your electric panel FIRST. Clock is not an indication of power. Save yourself a $125 appliance repair service fee.
Thank you for this. It saved me hundreds. Be safe out there and God bless!
glad to have helped!
When I turn on the oven to bake & broil it won’t come on on my stove panel the Pre goes dim it’s a General Electric oven
Hi, Thank you! My circuit board was a little different, didn't have the ribbon, I just unplugged the circuit and plugged it back in. It seemed like it had just come out a bit, so I just tightened it down and it worked!!!
Worked for me too! I had my doubts since our troubles started after a power outage and I assume that the electronics were damaged by a surge related to the power outage but what the heck, it was worth a try. It worked perfectly! I have a couple of suggestions for others: 1. Be careful not to pull too hard on the panel. There are a number of wires plugged into it that are easily pulled out. They can be put back in place easily but you need to know where they go so best to leave them alone. 2. My ribbon cable clip was different. It was orange and the little tabs on each side needed to be lifted. This lifted the back section of the clip and released the cable. Putting the cable back in was easy3 because there are two holes that line up with tiny posts. The back section of the clip then needs to be pressed back down and everything is secure. 3. A number of folks have mentioned that it is difficult getting the panel back in place. I found that I could bend the metal clips our a bit to simplify putting it back together. Thank you Jim.
glad to hear it. Thanks
Yeah! This worked! Just pulled up the ribbon cable connector a little and refastened. My GE Profile range was just displaying a number 1. No buttons would work. Everything is working again now. Was going to buy a new range. Wife is happy. Thank you!!!
Awesome - glad I could help
I have this exact model and we tried the fix but its not working. What is the control panel part number that is needed? Thank you
Troy Klein Minnesota Home Loans don’t worry. It’s only a temporary fix anyways. It is sure to happen again and again until the board dies. Doubt anyone comes back to this comment section with a follow up. Including the guy who posted the video.
*It had a really thick power cord and while this might seem silly to some people, for those of us who live in areas where we battle mice on regular basis this is important.>>>**ur2.pl/1202** If you have never lost an appliance of any kind due to a hungry mouse chewing through the cord you are indeed a blessed person. This microwave oven works great and looks good, doesn't take up much space either - exactly what I needed.*
Followed your instructions and used an eraser to clean the terminals on the ribbon cable. Had difficulty getting the panel back in place but once that frustration was over, everything has worked fine. Many thanks!!
glad it helped
Gee Thanks, Jim! This fixed my 16-year old GE Profile oven and now I won't get the new GE Cafe Double Oven I wanted! But on the other hand, you did save my Thanksgiving!! <3
Great to hear it helped.
Worked on my Jenn Air Range (Model #SCE30600) and saved me a $200 service visit. Thank You!!!!
THANKS !!!!! It took maybe five minutes to repair....hardest part was getting the panel back on.....works perfect ! You’re Awesome !!!!
Yes, the tabs on the inside of the front panel get bent easily. If you bend them outward a bit, I learned it goes back in more easily
Just watched this and shared it to a friend. Friend tried "when in doubt, reboot" theory first (I'm a computer guy). Flipping the breaker off, waited about 10 seconds & flipped it back on. BINGO . Everything back to normal and working. No need to take anything apart at all.
Yep, did the same thing - shut the breaker for the oven off for 10 seconds, and it worked like a champ. If that didn't work my next step was to follow these instructions
This works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't thank people enough by commenting. This saved me tremendously! You are the man!
Thanks, glad it helped you
Praise the Lord Bro. You just saved me $500. You are a God Send. Thank You for taking the time to make this video. Here's a Free Gift for you. www.itshisstory.com
My GE Profile Microwave worked for about 5-7 seconds then shut off. Further exam revealed burning/sparking in HV Inverter/Transformer. Digital continuity checked OK for all door switches, primary thermostat, shut off fuse, etc. Replaced Transformer with new part. Everything worked fine except 'No Microwave Heating'. Next, replaced Magnetron and Relay Switch on the circuit board. Everything worked fine except 'No Microwave Heating'. Magnetron humming seems normal! Cleaned mica wave board inside of unit, no sparking here. Can anyone advise what the problem may be. Again, everything worked fine including settings for time, power levels, clock, etc. when started up except 'No Microwave Heating'. Last resort before dropping out to the curb for the landfill! Any ideas greatly appreciated! HELP!
thank you so much. my buttons are all working again. the only thing not on is the led display. any advise for that?
Cristine Caruso get a new control board
THANK YOU!
Thanks for the video. Bought a new unit to be safe. Don't know how long the previous owner had it. Works like a charm.
so, basically just like restarting?
well, no, i had tried simply shutting off the breaker and turning it back on. did not help
I had to buy a new unit. Video helped with uninstall/install. Works like a charm now.
Thanks for tips. Nothing on my control panel was working although the oven had electricity (the oven light went on when I opened the door and the stove top electric spark igniters worked). Before opening the control panel, I first tried the lock-out & start buttons, and then I just unplugged the oven for a minute. When I plugged it back in, the control panel reset and was working again. If that wouldn't have worked, I was going to follow these instructions.
Sometimes it doesn't fix the problem, I'm pretty sure I have a similar problem, especially since a whole row of buttons stopped working. However I tried to clean the ribbons a few times with no success.
you're right does not always fix the problem, but worth a try before replacing expensive parts
