I bought the new subframe on line for $400 (shipping included) and had it mailed to the shop directly. When it arrived, they called me, and a couple days later I drove there and had it changed. I called a transmission shop near home and they quoted me a cost f $600 to competely replace my subframe (K-Frame). All I had to do was buy a subframe. I found one at a local bone yard, pulled it off myself. It took me about one hour and it cost me $35 + $15 core charge. So, the entire replare cost me about $670. Not to expensive if you ask me. • @olenaerhardt7725
      @olenaerhardt7725 Год назад

      @@golfghoul7 Thank you, it is good to know. Why I mentioned home AC, bcs on Amazon they show a picture of Home AC on that Automotive Recharging Machine I'm thinking about. It is VEVOR Portable 3/4 HP Refrigerant Recovery Machine - AC Recovery Machine with High Pressure Protection 120V 60Hz Recovery Machine HVAC for Vapor Liquid Refrigerant, Car Air Conditioning. So if to learn how to do on both (auto and home) properly it make great sense to have this machine. Actually for the cars we have I feel I would need to buy it. About refrigerant in that car I'm working on currently, I don't know yet. I did a lot on it, but most suspension, and while the car is in the air I thought to replace the radiator I bought a while ago. Surprisingly the radiator looks very good, though I changed coolant in it only 1 year ago, I believe the only time on that car. And it is 2001 Saturn SL2 w/~135 kmi. But Condenser behind it looks worn. The condensers are cheep, but you need to disconnect the AC Lines. Then I've learned about the Evaporator. There was no heat in that car, never (we bought it used), but AC was working. When it stopped working I went to Chevrolet Dealership here in Dallas, and they repaired it for $1K w/Warranty for 1 year. Shortly before the expiration date AC went down again. When I went back one mechanic there wanted me to pay again, then he did smth, AC was working like for 1-2 weeks, then went down again. On my return, that mechanic was going like, what did you expect if you didn't pay for the repair I did. Despite all that I don't think he did smth to cause the system slow evaporation during his 2nd "repair" (needless to say AC failed again shortly). It is still dealership, and it is illegal to send the refrigerant in the air. We didn't worry much about that not working AC, bcs by then it was our back up car, but still it would be good to put everything possible in the order on that AC. But probably later, I need to do more research on car AC system, bcs now I even don't know how to diagnose car AC. I have that device w/Blue and Red barometers, but I've never used it. Then get equipment. So for right now I'll just replace the Heater Core and Radiator. Then get all the necessary equipment for freon (or whatever is there) removal and storage. Thank you kindly again for your film. It helped me to start on the project I've never did before. I might open the Evaporator location and just clean it outside, already will be better.

Probably the most easy of work on a car but shops charge the most for it. I saved 850 on a job once that took me 1.5hours to do where a shop said it would take them 4 plus parts and labor. I have a 99 Civic and I replaced my evaporator and expansion valve in under an hour. The assembly for my car is behind the glove box. I took out 7 screws that hold it in and disconnected the rubber hose on the bottom. It was a very very easy job in my car. Other car's probably take longer.

      @@olenaerhardt7725yes. You will have to take it to the shop for them to discharge and recycle the Freon. I did this job on my Dodge Ram. The whole dash had to come out as well as the heater box.

    • @olenaerhardt7725
      @olenaerhardt7725 Год назад

      @@airmike1271 I know already, but thank you. There was no freon in that car, it was totally empty. I removed a lot of stuff fm/the dash, but then decided to try just to flush the system and try it w/air pressure. That was bcs when I came to the Heater Core. It was like new, there was no need to replace it. The Heater didn't work, bcs the regulating cord was disconnected. I attached it and tried the system. It showed a leak on the compressor, which they installed at dealer. I've learned a lot during this time, but still don't know if you can discharge the system at home and then go w/that tank somewhere for recycling. They sell those tanks on Amazon, but no one knows where to go w/that tank after. Probably it is better not to reuse that freon (fm the tank), since it might be contaminated. Thank you again.

      @airmike1271 Год назад

      @@olenaerhardt7725 it is great that you are working on your car as you learn new things at the rewarding feeling you get when you repair an issue. You should be able to recycle your freon, which without a license and take it to a place that will take the gas. It is not recommended to try and use the gas as it might have other types of freon mixed in from any previous owners. To purchase refrigerant, you will have to have a license. But that is not a huge hurdle as you can study up and take a online test for I thing between 50-80 dollars. My dilemma, I bought a 2009 Eclipse with a family member as a Facebook Marketplace project. That a/c, I figured I would farm that work to a shop as I really did not want to get deep into that system. Doing that evaporator, heater core on my truck took weeks. I couldn’t just stick to the task as I rebuilt the whole heater box assembly with all new mode doors. So the Eclipse went to this shop that was building my trust to work on my vehicles. They had me convinced to replace the compressor, drier and had some kind of valve replaced. The car did some sitting and drove it to work Monday to find out the a/c is blowing hot. The shop still has the car. I am anticipating that it is going to be a bad evaporator. If that is the case, they should have discovered it and not taken me a ride. So once I get the verdict and it is the evaporator, they will be fired from the job and I will be, cough, doing it myself 😜
