Building the last B-36
США
Добавлен 23 мар 2007
The documentation of scratch building a full scale Convair B-36H Peacemaker.
This build is based on historical aircraft 50-1083 in the state it would have been where leaving the factory in May of 1952.
Without manufacturing drawings (blueprints) I have built from scratch, everything you see but the seat(s), gauges, oxygen and communication panels.
This project is expensive and here is the only way you can help:
1. Please create and login to RUclips.
2. Click on LIKE and SUBSCRIBE.
3. Ask and/or demand your friends, family and anyone who is interested in aviation (or watching some guy in central West Virginia attempt to do airplane stuff) to do the same.
As much as I appreciate it, simply watching these videos doesn’t do a whole lot in terms of helping me purchasing aluminum, steel, fasteners, abrasives, paint and on and on.

My step-son of nearly 15 years is in the US Army and is a couple a months away from deployment with the 10th Mountain Division, so hence the flag. Maybe someday he will look back at these videos and see that he was on my mind. Another day, another dollar. Cutting up the aluminum sheets in preparation to begin construction of the flight deck floor.

It’s THE LATER SHOW! With Special Guest: The Garage B-36
The cockpit is so real it looks from the inside as though you could just take off! You have much patience. Thanks for the videos of your progress.
Just amazing work you’ve done
It's at a 5500FT per minute climb
Looks great - even close-up like a real B-36 cockpit. I wish I knew of any B-36 crew still around, the few I knew are gone. Don’t know much about the T-18 housing, more often didn’t have this. The T-18 was designed in 1950 and apparently on the B-36 in 1951 - before there was only the large “FTB Mk4” from 1948 and the short-lived T-4 designed in late 1949. The T-18 was needed to handle both the Mk-4 and Mk-6, which the others couldn’t do well.
Apparently there were several T-boxes on each aircraft and all had specific functions. In pictures I have seen three different models.
I hadn’t seen that, but early-on the result of the new dashboard boxes was they didn’t need the on-board weaponeer anymore.
fabulous
You’ll need a bunch of gauges for your engineering station. Quite a fun project you have there. Just saw that movie Strategic Air Command the other day.
Umm do they have a B-36 to put that in??
Who is “they” and what is “that”?
@@B36HPeacemaker Work it out buddy.
7:20 Yo is that the gunner turret base in the backround right? If yes, is that from the only private owned B-36?
That is a B-36 turret as well as parts to the aft compartment of 42-13571 in the background.
That shot of the cockpit, with the cars parked out front, man that does give a wrong impression, like it was driving on the road...!!
One day people will steal my images for click-bait stores and so on. You’ll always know which B-36 is mine based on the cars parked right outside. 😃
Hollywood didn’t get it 100% perfect no way. Wish I had your attention to detail. Wow.I mean that as a compliment.
The hot gauge in this video is that remote indicating compass, I have 6 of them and they are one of the more radioactive gauges out there.
Brilliant is not good enough, but Brilliant is the best I have got for you today.
Howdy, i'm a new viewer and as soon as i saw this channel i HAD to subscribe. i'm a huge aviation nerd, and have a special soft spot for the giant, multi engined behemoths of the 1930-50's. Fantastic work you're doing and shared your channel to everyone i thought of who'd be interested. great job documenting so far! (honestly a little envious)
Thank you, and welcome!
awesome!!
Everything looks great!
Always happy to see your recent video come up! That control lock looks and sounds great!
Remarkable work. May have our first frost next week
she is lookin' good!
fabulous
Cast magnesium? Wtf lockheed...
Newby question here: What is the purpose of the control lock? Is this when parked on the ramp, and disengaged before flight? Or some other purpose. Thanks!
The primary reason is to prevent damage to the flight control surfaces while parked, during high winds. Every control surface had an electrically engaged, hydraulically operated lock. The control featured in this video activated and deactivated them all.
@@B36HPeacemaker Thanks!
Univair seems to have some grimes lamps for sale ...
I try to avoid parts houses. They ask $10 for a bolt where I can get a whole box on eBay for $8. But, I’ll check it out.
Master fabricator.
VERY impressive indeed...
Please keep sharing the temperature and humidity! It has come to mean a lot to me!
Will do. I don't know what I was thinking.
Acualy looks really clean
its looking amazing
It would be awesome to have the money to build a flying 1/4 scale B-36 that can hold 1 pilot
That would be a 57'-6" wingspan.
@@B36HPeacemaker dang. But to lift itself, 1 human pilot and have engines and jets big enough. Might be able to get down to 1/5 scale. But there is that 1 pilot Bally Bomber 1/4 B-17.
Awesome blending up front under that triangle bottom window!
Ramping up with an English Wheel!
looks great!!
You on patreon?
I have a Gofundme link on the main channel page.
Convair Made this plane not consolidated vultee
Consolidated Vultee is Convair.
If you take shrinker to that aft edge you can eliminate those buckles between rivets.
A shrinker?
whats a shrinker
I was in the pool!
Thanks for sharing

Started watching your videos last week. I am going to watch them all. When I started watching, I thought to myself "Is this guy a nut or a genius?" Well it didn't take long to realize that you are a "dreamer" and are pragmatic. Keep up the good work, and to answer the big question: What is it going to be? It will be whatever you make it to be, and that will be good enough! 👍
Amazing comment. Thank you!
Gotta start your ground school flight training soon to be able to fly it when you are done 👍🏻🤩☝🏻😎
Wow…Just the dedication is incredible…Your attention to the details is amazing…Hoping an air museum will step in to help & offer tips 👍🏻🤩☝🏻

Great progress. Does the B-36 attract a lot of attention from neighbours and passers-by?
Some weekends there are yard sales further up the hill which draws in constant traffic. I would say the majority of people slow down when they see the B-36, but then again they might think I’m the yard sale…seriously. Once in a blue moon some random passer by (typically a delivery driver or lawn care guy) will ask me what I’m up to. 99% of people don’t know what it is to begin with and are surprised it’s an airplane. Not many people associate the B-36’s unique canopy with an airplane -especially one that is 80 years old. Not to mention, most aviation enthusiasts know what a B-36 is. Most of my neighbors have know me for over 30 years and know what I do. I could have an AH-64 parked on the driveway and they’d just walk up and talk to me like it’s just another day. People that actually come outside around here are far more concerned with washing their vehicles and growing old than my humble B-36.
It is really looking good. Just imagine how cool it will be to sit in the pilots chair when you are all done.
They say most of the fun is in the wanting. The golden days of the build is when I finished restoring the seat and was able to fall asleep in it, when I had just it and the basic main instrument panel. These days I love opening the garage door and seeing her, but at the same time, because I put just so much time into her, I feel like a poorly compensated Convair employee in some surreal state of reality.
After watching the movie "Strategic Air Command a dozen times and seeing your B-36 cockpit under construction. I feel like I could be on the crew of an operating B-36 LOL Great work.
This is awesome!
So I think yer gonna need a bigger garage...
keep up the good work......
Thanks for sharing you project with us! Really enjoy watching your progress! Aviation fan too, and the B-36 was an amazing aircraft!
The cockpit is DEFINITELY female because she is a real beauty.
Looking good
