I am very interested in buying a carbon violin. I am professional violinist, love to test and introduce new modern materials and tehniques. But as someone mentioned in the comments, carbon violins are really expensive, unfortunatley. To be honest, all good instruments are expensive, so maybe paying 5 000€ or more for carbon violin isn't that much after all.

that set up is great for a more mellow viola to start of with but a bright instrument might sound a little harsh with the Evah Pirazzi. The Spirocore C and Larsen A can be great on just about any viola ;) I am currently trying out D'Addario Kaplan Amo for Viola.

Of course the best strings for viola are the ones that best suit the particular instrument and player. I'm very happy with a plain gut A and Eudoxa D, G, and C. Second choice would be Obligato, but really no synthetic core string produces quite the correct sound, especially on open strings, pizzicato, or notes played without vibrato.

And what is the difference in sound between the two? You say they both sound fantastic, but are the exactly the same in terms of volumen, brightness...?

I normally use a full set of Obligato strings for my viola, but now that I'm due a string change I'm thinking of changing things up. I've just been watching a lot of reviews of various strings on RUclips so I'm interested to see which strings I'll end up trying!

Evah Pirazzis do not last long. If you play 4 hours per day, they'll last for 2 1/2 months.

Your instrument sounds fantastic to me. Not sure if it's the microphone or your room acoustics, but it seemed to me that it projects very loudly indeed, and that the common complaint of CF instruments does not apply to this. It seems very much s loud enough, and has a quality tone. Just like us Guitar people, I'm not surprised that there remains a huge school of wood snobbery and antediluvian views on modern instrument design. The only good sounding instruments must be made with the blood of unicorns, and the wood of the true cross.

it has a fine voice in your hands. I don't particularly like carbon fiber guitars but I think violas and cellos are a good use for the material.

Interesting indeed. Presumably you also use a carbon fibre bow. But one of the impressions I get from listening to yours and other's performances with these violas is that their dynamic range is more limited. They are indeed strong but in the pianissimos they seem to also wish to be strong. Is that really so or is it the recording techniques? It is of direct interest to me because at a very advanced age I am finding my rather good viola sometimes difficult and a lighter weight would be welcome. There also seems to be no agent in the EU.

the dolfinos needs a third, central pad between the other two but further towards the centroid of the instrument. otherwise it's just another linear fulcrum-style shoulder rest with all the same problems as every other linear fulcrum shoulder rest...

Hi, which chin rest do you have? I’m trying to figure out whether to get the Berlin extra hold, the Vienna or the Toledo. I am 5,5” with slender frame and it’s for my 15” viola.

At bottom, musical instruments are technology, and it's natural that they advance as technology advances. Given the weight and difficulty of playing a viola, I would buy only a CF viola if I were to play one.

While I love the romance of traditional string instruments - there does seem to be an increasing role for carbon. With cellos, there is a chronic shortage of good affordable instruments for students and orchestral players. The L&C was developed by a cellist, and as the Yo-Yo Ma endorsement suggests it is a more than capable instrument which can help fill the gap. Traditional violas have the issue of being acoustically smaller than the ideal compared to the original da braccio models. This means that they are often muted, and so heavy and awkward to play that many players suffer significant injuries. The L&C seems to generate more power for an equivalent size, and is lighter and safer to play. For fiddles I'm rather less convinced by the sound of current offerings, though I guess if you do a lot of outside gigging or live in an extreme climate they could be a godsend... Interesting that the Mezzo Forte people seemed closed to professional feedback - it may help explain why most people seem to prefer the L&C instruments.
