    Don't think I saw this one! last January while looking at the ATIII. Your presentation is excellent, and your reasons for choosing this tire and in this size mirror my criteria almost exactly, although for two different environments. I use mine on pavement getting to the various dirt and sand conditions of the great Mojave desert. I drive the 1/2 ton little brother to your truck and it's wheels are 17". I had been running the ubiquitous 285/70-17 on a zero-offset 8.5" wheel and even with a front suspension lift had a little tire rub. Since I don't modify my vehicles to the extent I USED to (rigs are so well designed these days all they need for daily driver use are better dampers, wheels, tires and oil changes. Maybe a slight exhaust system enhancement) I spend the dough on WHEELS (something you said you weren't doing and do not need to). I went to the METHOD 705 17 X 8.5" but in a 25mm offset to bring the wheel width back within the fender vertical line but still have a more aggressive track width than the factory wheel... I wanted a 10" wide tire, not an 11.5 like I had been running... and I wanted taller. Bingo! Toyo offers the 34 X 10.50 X R17LT in a D Load Range! Tire measures 33.5", weighs 55 lbs and the cost is in line with everything else. I too think it about the most-aggressive All Terrain tire and every Rough Terrain tire (the new hybrid type before stepping up to a Mud Terrain) were much heavier. VERY HAPPY with my choice! There's no more rubbing! and it's a taller tire! Win/win. Thanks again for a great vid! and I hope that two years in to these you're still happy. Would love to hear from you here in the comments. Safe travels to you.

    Is this camper on your Ford full time? Assuming you could tighten the rear ratchets down enough, so you see any issues with them?

    • @NorthernExplorerOverland
      @NorthernExplorerOverland 2 месяца назад

      I typically put the camper on in the spring and take it off in the late fall. Sometimes I will need to take the camper off if there is any unforeseen maintenance. There will always be some movement of the camper with ratchet straps. It just boils down to whether or not that amount of movement is acceptable with you. I wanted zero movement as I tend to drive a lot of rough roads and seeing the camper out of center on the back of my truck drove me nuts.

    • @jackg8478

      @@NorthernExplorerOverland I haven't used mine enough yet to evaluate. I have traditionally driven very rough roads. I feel like I will likely have to scale back with the FWC. I just got these on a sock suspension 2017 sierra. 285/55 R20 they only rub on full lock but only in the inner carpet thing and not even alot. All i did was tie it back with a zip tie and now no rubbing at all. Only reason i got them was because its one of the only things i will add to my truck. I wont be adding a two inch leveling kit either. The tires make very minimal noise compared to other truck i hear down the road. I was either going between nittos or these but alot of people said nittos suck on wet roads after some time and thats all i mostly do. Use it for the road. I did see that sams sells toyo tires a/t 275s but still decided to go with the 285s since i test fitted them and saw that it was an easy fix. edit: yea i could of gone with the 275 but it didnt rubb with any plastic or metal and i took the mud flapps off, if i ''tow" its only to carry things around. If i used the truck for truck things i woud of gone with the 275 but I use it as a daily just to ride around town from point A to point B Great Video BTW

    Thanks to your excellent data this is going to be interesting for me. I pull a 16 ft Scamp and have considered buying a Four Wheel Camper and have wondered what kind of fuel mileage I could expect. My Scamp has an air conditioner on top and is just a bit taller than my truck. I took a trip last fall from Wisconsin to the middle of Montana pulling the Scamp and have decent MPG data and am looking forward to comparing those results with yours. It should give me a pretty good idea what I could expect carrying a 4-Wheel Camper. A big variable in the UP and traveling in the west is wind velocity and direction but other than adjusting travel dates there's no way of remedying that problem. Nice job collecting and collating the data. Maybe we'll see each other in the Porkies. And thanks for the rapid response to my question.

      K, stopped in at Grainger today, The springs are either discontinued or you have to buy 3 packs of 10, raising the rice d admission to over $150. So, I am on hold. The U-bolts were available, the steel is easy as are the locking nuts. Any ideas on an alternate source for the springs? I was considering a DIY of the HappiJac style, Eye bolt thru a cap, spring essentially preset. Screw on or press fit then weld the cap to the tubing, welded nut at other end. Ever consider one that way? The spring would need t be about double the in/lbs you used. And you would need to be real confident on your welds.

    17.5 on superduty is good. My 3.5 ecoboost 3.55 gears was getting 22 mpg when I purchased it. That’s with stock tires and stock suspension. I put a leveling kit on it and a bed rack tent. It went down to 18.5 mpg. I then put duratrek mt tires 32”(taller tires and 8 ply) and it dropped to 16.5. So if your truck is stock it’s doing better than the ecoboost with slightly smaller tires on the ecoboost.
