I am trying to figure out how hip rotation reduces drag. You can't get good rotational energy without having the core engaged, not rigid like a board but more like spring steel so the energy transfers from the shoulders to the feet, anchoring on the pulling arm. Last comment here by Adam Ding, about sacrificing stream line for speed and high stroke rate, pretty sure he is describing the gallop style or hybrid style as I have heard it called. It does use a slight porpoising, and the idea is that it contributes to forward acceleration, some what similar to the fly or breast stroke. Every single male swimmer in the Olympics uses it. Some of the women, like Katie Ledecky use it, but Arierne Titmus does not.

Thanks for the video. I honestly am a low level swimmer and I have always started the 'wave' from the hands in the underwater dolfin kick. Many pro have their hands pointing like the wave starts from the shoulders or lower from the hips. I thought I was doing it wrong but looks like that he opens the way with his arms as he follows a sinusoidal wave.

Does it look kinda like he does a big down kick and a small up kick on his underwaters? Or a big down kick and no upkick? I'm curious if that makes sense to do that to prevent l little more drag? Less body movement but still propelling forward?
