East Coast Fly Fishing
Добавлен 6 янв 2014
Hey y’all, thanks for visiting my channel. I'm a retired professional lacrosse player that's become obsessed with fly fishing. I've lived and fished out of PA, MD, and Virginia the last few years. My favorite kind of fishing is in the backcountry, away from the crowds and devoid of development. Our national parks and forests allow us this great experience still. I'm confident if you go out and explore some of these areas like I have you'll grow an appreciation for this land and sense of duty to conserve it.
"... not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of man are equally unimportant - and not nearly so much fun"
*I am by no means a good videographer or even fisherman yet, but it's fun to share what you love, some of the places you get to go, and connect with like minded people along the way

A Cutthroat Stream in Yellowstone National Park - Fly Fishing
This video is from a stream located within Yellowstone National Park. We were lucky to see great hatches of Green Drakes and PMD's that brought these big Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout to the surface. Pretty much all of these fish were spotted risers, targeted, and caught on the Dry Fly.

Always nice to have another set of eyes on the stream 👀 My brother spots a rise I missed and with some good directions gets me on a gorgeous 18” cutthroat trout. Fly fishing for Rainbow Trout in Yellowstone National Park - Part 1
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.6 месяцев назад
This was my first time getting into true wild rainbows and they were a blast. Learned a lot on this day of fishing. Tough fighting fish on a stream where the current worked against you more often than not. The caddis hatch was on in this watershed and for most of the day all we used was size 12-16 a classic elk hair or cdc & elk caddis fly (did throw a size 10 yellow stimulator and had good suc...
Big rainbow trout caught fly fishing in Yellowstone National Park

During our lunch break we started noticing a few Green Drakes hatching and spied a few rises just upstream of us. I tied on an EP Green Drake dry fly onto the end of a long 16' 5x Spanish leader I was using with my Orvis Clearwater 4wt 10' rod. Luckily didn't miss the hook-set while I was trying to manage the excess line that had been getting tangled in these wild flowers along the bank the ent...

Catching a 15” Wild Brown Trout on a small mountain stream

Fly fishing a tributary to one of the major spring creeks in Central, PA. I had checked out this spot a few weeks ago and noted the browns were spawning in these pools (I even have a video of this exact pool from earlier in November). Came back to check if they were done with their spawn and ready to eat flies again and they sure were! I grabbed this skinny 15” brown right at the head of the po...

Soda butte
Or slough?
Slough Creek?!?! Nice fishing!
Slough Creek is my guess.
I enjoyed watching you catch those hawgs, especially since you remove the hook without taking the fish out of the water. ☮ from North Idaho.
There is not a single video on this channel that has displayed an east coast stream. Pennsylvania is not on the east coast
Very nice place and beautiful area, I did fish there last year in the end of august on big grasshoppers & ants, caught some nice Cutthroats to 😍
I would fish this area, plus the savage, gunpowder an beaver creek, now living in Charleston sc it's bass an redfish
Nice sky, so chill
Beautiful stream
What a callout, what a cast.
Nice Video ! I like that you show a detailed list of the gear/flies you use in the video description
How blue the sky is in Yellowstone National Park! How beautiful the trout are in Yellowstone National Park!
Where are you fishing at in Maryland is it big hunting creek?
@@blakesteroutdoors definitely in the Catoctins!
@ thanks
The one on the thumbnail looks like a brown
What fly rod are you using?
@@HarrisonSchneider-ec6vm this was the Orvis Clearwater 10’ 4wt.
Nice work!!
Thank you!
You’re welcome 😎
beautiful fish!, nice job!😉
Thank you!
Beautiful river.
Great video ! I wish when people video their fishing adventure they would also show the fly that the fish took. I see where you wrote that you were using #12-16 elk hair caddis, but still wish I could see the fly. The more I watch the more jealous I become. Keep up the good videos.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! Got a lot more videos I need to edit from this last trip, I'll try to find the flies used and show them at the end!
My 17 S plus fish
Nice video thanks for sharing
Good stuff. ❤
Been 15 years since I’ve been there, too far for the old man now Did you try Eppard Hollow Run?
I did, didn't fish it too far up, but made sure I checked it out on my way out of Big Run that 1 weekend. Got into some small brook trout on eppard, the pools didn't look as nice as what I encountered on rocky run, but there did seem to be a better trout population on that tributary
That large pool at the waterfall has to hold some good size Brookies
Enjoying your videos while I wait for my next trip. I fished white oak maybe a week or two after you in 2023. I got nothing in the first section so decided to head up the mountain. Finally started catching them in almost every hole once got up the mountain a ways. Did more mountain climbing then anything else that day.
I love piney. Looked like you covered a lot of water. I don’t think I’ve been that far up piney. I usually start just inside park boundary and fish 4-6 hours. Usually end up in that section where it flattens out. I haven’t made it up to the headwaters.
Def you should hike up and try up above. Did you have problems with the neighbors parking at the bottom?
You landed a few nice ones! Hogcamp might be my favorite stream in snp. I always catch (and release) good numbers of brookies. I do think the size of the trout in some snp park streams is down this year thanks to the bad drought last summer. I still brought 10 or so to hand in about 3 hours but usually you’ll catch an 8 inch trout and I did not come close this year.
Hey Man ..Just curious ...What wading pants and shoes are you wearing? Thanks!
Hey Ken, so the hippers are Frogg Togg Canyon II's and then I've been wearing Orvis' ultralight weight wading boots the last few years and have been really pleased with them
One of my favorites, yes I use the shortcut
I've dropped in from Pinefield gap and from the Loft Mtn wayside area, both are pretty brutal bushwhacks down. Are you coming in from the lower boundary?
@@EastCoastFlies I got access through the bottom with a friend 20 years ago and we fished the creek through farmland with the stream covered by trees with natives before the SNP and a little tributary from the north below the park boundary was great too, Otherwise from Loft Mtn take trail across the road to the AT and then take the almost immediate left heading north down towards a maintenance bldg Pass the bldg go down through a dry wash and you’re close to where the upper stream crosses the AT I would go about 100 feet past the creek and cut in the woods and follow the ridge down the northwest side of the creek you can cross to the opposite side about 20 minutes when you see a small trib and rocky area at the confluence continue down the south side if want when you can see the Ivy Creek overlook up to the left high above Ivy creek is bigger and was quite productive my last trip 10 years ago I’m older now
Way to stick with it.
Love your stuff man, had one of my greatest fly fishing days of my life on Jeremy’s. Outside of jeremies and big run, do you know of any other streams that have no bottom access? I love overnight backpack fishing and find the best streams are the one with top access only
The East branch of naked creek, ivy creek, and Doyles run come to mind. Ivy creek is a tough, tough hike and theres really no good place to set-up camp down there. Doyles has a few campsites right where Jones Run comes in, and you can access it from the same lot that you hit Big Run at.
Beautiful river
Been flyfishing and tying for over 50 years. Catching a beautiful Brooke like that can't be beat. I appreciate your respect for that fish.
Thanks the comment! Nothing better than a beautiful native, especially when it's an adventure to get to them.
I have fished 4 mile run a number of times. Could be. The parts I have fished though is steeper.
Don’t ask me how I know this, but I’m 99% sure that’s 4 Mile Run in PA Grand Canyon, specially Colton Point State Park area and that’s the first major split for that tributary. Am I right?
What a great video! What time of year we’re you there?
Thank you! We were there the first week of July.
Very nice. Well done.
Awesome video!! Your channel looks really cool, can't wait to see more! Just subbed too👊
Fished this river dozens of times, know it like the back of my hand. In that hole where you said there's got to be something, I think the same thing too when I fish it but never caught one there. There are quite a few of those fishy looking holes that for some reason don't produce (until 1 day they do). That last pool you fished was one where I never caught anything after dozens of times, until this year.
IMO the greatest hinderance to catching fish on this stretch appears to be the crowds. There's some fantastic pools that rival the lower Rapidan here, but there's just so much traffic every day on this trail that I find the fishing is much more hit or miss.
Wow that’s quite a big river- with beauty color to it.. and of course it would have sweet looking fish coming out of it. Well done
Nice slam!
Well done!
Great catch there
What a jewel of a little creek
Nice female brown,, good for you 👍
Hey! Can you tell me the name or brand of the landing net? Thanks! 😊
Harassing fish for a selfie. How environmental of you.
Are these fish native? No, they are invasive. These aren’t endangered fish.
@@Donde_estoy So you throw them back instead of eating them? LMAO
@@rockymntdan1 That fish literally wouldn't be alive and in a stream if it weren't for fisherman. Brown trout are not native to North America, especially PA.
hell yeah
Nice one
Cool catch
