    I downloaded "Ghost of Needlehole" for free back before Halloween just to give it a read and I liked it and ran it over two sessions. I had to make some conversion as I use a homebew system, but I wanted to send a post to thank you for creating this adventure. I went in and did a second download of GoNH to give you a well deserved donation and later picked up all your other offerings. These make excellent fill in adventures between the planned ones for my campaign arc. Keep up the excellent work!

    I downloaded this adventure because I am running a Shire campaign for my wife and daughter, and i needed some ideas for the Brockenbores. I love it, but I am modifying it to fit the level and theme of our campaign. To wit, my wife and daughter are playing the prerolled Brandybuck characters and they are serving as “Shiriffs at Large” for the underserved communities of the Shire. In keeping with our needs, I’m not going to use the Spider, because it’s just too big an enemy and because all our adventures are about solving mysteries or resolving conflicts. So I am going to focus on the mushrooms. The Master has discovered that you can make a stimulant from the fungal poison, if it is modified by an apothecary. Therefore, at night, when the mines are closed, he sends in a team wearing special protective face masks to harvest the shrooms and bring them to his lab, where he mixes them with the beer that is served to his miners. The players will have to use stealth, scan, explore, awe, riddle, healing, (not to mention valour) and their own brains to find and interpret the clues and bring the Master to justice. Along the way, there may be ethical dilemmas, which I haven’t sorted yet. This is the first time I’ve downloaded a home brew adventure and I didn’t know what to expect. What I received was of excellent quality. I owe you a fee and will make it up to you.

      Happy you are finding it useful for your game! This was my first attempt at a Landmark and was for solo-play adventures (also on this channel), and wanted to try out the landmark and Nameless things creation rules! The spider like nameless thing is tough for sure for a bunch of hobbits, but that’s how the die rolled and well dice tell stories lol.

    Hi Ryan, I am in the fence on buying TOR 2e. What are your thoughts on replayability (solo and group play)? I will mostly play in solo mode (my group is hesitant to play since it takes place before the LOTHR trilogy). Is it varied enough or will it be like ”doing the same thing again for the 100th time” ;) Happy new year!

    • @RyanoftheNorth
      @RyanoftheNorth 13 дней назад

      Happy New Year to you as well! I’m going to be a little biased and say TOR is great for Solo-play… considering that’s how this channel started was to capture and share my solo-play! It really started with want to explore the Shire and then all of Middle Earth through play, and it then lead me to go deep in reading more of Tolkien’s works! So if that is something you’d like, what other option do you have! But even for the casual player and Middle Earth fan, the material and writing of the books for TOR is top tier so lots of playability. The rules for Strider mode is written by Shawn Tompkins (Ironsworn) and Matt Click so again great rules for solo-play! For a group, continued playability is there. I think TOR offers a much different experience and change from say D&D with its generally low magic play but heavy in world lore and building. There so much available both officially and homebrew that you have enough adventures and campaigning to last a very long time! It’s also great reading. The material is written in such a way that you’re almost exploring Middle-Earth as you learn the rules. The look of the books lends to this as well. The artwork is excellent. TLDR: you won’t be disappointed if you buy it!

    • @Phenixfox75
      @Phenixfox75 13 дней назад

      @ Thank you! I think that you just made some money for Free league 😂 (edit. made the order). Strider mode (from what I have watched on RUclips) is a big reason that I want to play TOR (Shawn Ts stuff is awesome). As for Tolkiens world, whats not to like. My biggest concern was replayability but your answer puts that to rest. Thank you for taking the time to help me out. Have you tried the Moria expansion? I heard the solo rules in that book is really good to.

      Good stuff! I haven’t had a chance to try out Moria yet (solo or group play… been waylaid by Warhammer 40k modelling and playing!!) but it’s a great supplement even for the occasional fan. So much great writing by Gareth on fleshing out Moria without breaking Canon.

    • @RyanoftheNorth
      @RyanoftheNorth 8 дней назад

      The only bad thing about 40K is that I need more Dakka! Moria is such a great read it’s legit something that can be placed next to Tolkien’s works and it fits. Gareth, and Francesco et al done their due diligence!

    The starter set adventurers are great. Because they are so LotR and not a D&D clone with a series of action scenes divided by exaggerated drama. Instead we experience a life of high adventurer where the most dangerous thing might actually be getting called late to dinner.

    • @RyanoftheNorth
      @RyanoftheNorth 29 дней назад

      It is great and a nice change to what you normally would see for a RPG. The Shire supplement was the reason I got into the kickstarter in the first place, and when I have run it for my group and at a convention, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. As long as expectations before hand are set about what it is and isn’t.

    What does the injury rating do? I only have the starter set and the explanation of combat in the starter set rules book is really lacking.

    • @RyanoftheNorth
      @RyanoftheNorth Месяц назад

      Yeah the starter set is definitely lacking as compared to the full CRB. Wish it were more like the Blade Runner and Alien RPG starter sets which basically has the full player rules. That aside. The Injury Rating is the the target number for anyone to prevent a wound on a piercing blow. For instance if your player rolls a Gandalf rune or 10 (and succeeds on getting hit) therefore causing a piercing blow. The adversary then has to make a protection roll against that injury rating. This is based on their armour value, or for a player their protection value. The starter set is fairly light and I don’t think it mentions anything in the adventures as well about making piercing blows. Not the intention or feeling that the writer wanted to convey. It is the Shire after all! Feel free to ask more questions and take a look at my other videos on The One Ring! And welcome to the game!

  • @MouseGuardian
    @MouseGuardian Месяц назад

    The treasure number seems so low in 2e. 3d6 x players is a dragon hoard? Wouldn’t it be cool if it was very high number, as we would imagine Smaug’s hoard to be? As you say, there is limit to how much they can take with them anyway. And if it’s very risky abd dangerous to return for more, you have another adventure right there🤷‍♂️

    • @RyanoftheNorth
      @RyanoftheNorth Месяц назад

      Yeah I definitely would make an adjustment as well. Or at the least narrate it as such. And then I’d say you can reasonable find (rules as written) amount that you think you can remove. And if they ask, how about the rest? You can then say, “you can always come back?” May provide some interesting options for further adventuring, or as rumour spreads, they’re not the only ones in search of the dragon hoard!

    I am worried that this game is harder to run than DnD. Not mechanically, but thematically. There is just so much to do in DnD. In LoTR I think it really leans into players loving the lore.

    • @RyanoftheNorth

      There’s definitely advantages for both players and loremasters to be already invested into Middle-Earth lore, when playing the game, easier to keep to the tone and feel to it. But there’s enough there in the core rulebook to get everyone started. And who knows, everyone may start to read more of Tolkien’s works (it “forced” me too lol)

    Unsure what the benefit of Artificer of Eregion does. The reward is okay for the first part but I see no advantage to the second when the undertaking can do everything by just having a treasure hunter. Am I missing a benefit?

    • @RyanoftheNorth
      @RyanoftheNorth 2 месяца назад

      It’s basically an additional undertaking you can take on top of what the company decides to take already. So because you can only have a primary undertaking and a free secondary taking as a whole, this provides an extra, although limited to one item only, sort of undertaking. So could open up using a different free undertaking from a different calling/player within the group. Especially if there was only one magical item found and you don’t need to user the Study Magical Items one and use this instead.

    • @RyanoftheNorth
      @RyanoftheNorth 2 месяца назад

      For sure. Each adventure progresses to cover more and more about the ruleset for The One Ring, and really hits home the tone for a game set in the Shire and Middle-Earth! The One Ring is great to be the first to try out the TTRPG space and the starter set helps with that. Also, because it’s set in between the events of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, there’s some setting familiarity for everyone… well unless one hasn’t read the books or watch any of the movies lol I created this channel and the videos to hopefully help out new (and even experienced TTRPGers) to the One Ring. Hope you have found them helpful so far! Also really check out the live play by Glass Cannon Network, if you’re running the game as the lore Master. Really helped me with understanding the feel and tone for the game and the mechanics.

    Thank you for this, and your consideration of feedback and continued adjustments. Suggestion: if the 'circle' is used in online sessions, why have the whole upper half of the text upside down? Rather than Players Left and Enemy Right, perhaps a Bottom\Top split might be more intuitive (Player view from circle bottom looking up = forward) and would make text legibility better for players (no more upside down). Some of the smaller faded font is on difficult side to read, so perhaps darker. If no time\interest in further changes, please consider providing the base file (photoshop or...?) to allow individual customization? Again, many thanks for this and efforts!

    Thanks for the video. Appreciate all the work. Can I ask a question? Why are there different terrains outlined throughout the map? At first I thought it would help with the narrative situation, but when one player moves from say open to defensive stance, they would be in a different terrain spot so that doesn't seem to fit (i.e. moving from open to "forward" from the top left terrain puts you from a forest onto a bridge - which doesnt' make sense to me). Is it just for aesthetic? Thanks!

    • @RyanoftheNorth
      @RyanoftheNorth 3 месяца назад

      I think it’s there for aesthetic purposes and seemed to have been a last minute decision as I recall, Franseco said the artist/cartographer needed to take some time after completing it. I think there was some intention of having varied looks to adapt to settings where a battle takes place, but if there are lots of heroes versus adversaries have no choice but to use the other areas of the map. It’s a gorgeous drawing however and looks great spread out across the table! Thanks for watching and hopefully the videos don’t lead astray!

    How do you think the best way to handle the situation where players want to try something creative a little outside the stance guidelines? For example, let's say the Dwarf wants to release a bunch of barrels careening off the back of the cart into the enemies. I might suggest that could be a Battle or Craft roll to add a complication to the battlefield. Would stances come into play here?

      If you look on page 98 in the core book, top left, there is a box that addresses this! Basically, instead of doing a Combat Task, can the attempted action be completed in one round, does it require a dice roll, what advantages/disadvantages are gained, etc.

    I've decided as I want to play a high elf with the virtue: artificer of Eregion, that I was originally training as a jewel-crafter until Gandalf, on many of his visits to Rivendell, spotted my diplomacy in diffusing an argument between two of my peers. This was followed by my healing skills, which even Mithrandir marvelled at, stating, "such skills for a juvenile Noldor, no less. Yes, yes; very good, Miriel.". Ever since, he has dispatched me upon several local diplomacy and aid missions in the neighbouring villages, surrounding Imladris' borders. I am a protector for those who cannot protect themselves; harbinger of light and balancer of the natural order. I am a warden. Someday, I hope to complete my artificer studies and craft jewels of great beauty and renown. Due to this, I carry some jewellery and scrolls with me, to keep my hand in the tinkering of such refined materials. My main personality traits are to be subtle and fair, as I have had a relatively introverted upbringing, hailing from a family tree of artificers. My favourite pastimes are singing and star-gazing; the latter of which has always served for small-scale navigational purposes and should assist in my current large-scale endeavours, no doubt. In combat, I am equally skilled in bow and sword and shield. I prefer to start at rear, in a defensive bow stance but can happily fight in an open fighting stance. At 700 years young, Miriel still has much to learn of the world beyond Imladris.

      @RyanoftheNorth 3 месяца назад

      Yeah I can see that. Aside from elves having a better strength TN generally, and some specific cultural virtues that help in combat (depending on the elf culture), there’s an even playing field. I guess that’s where individual roleplay and combat proficiency ranks comes into effect!

      @@RyanoftheNorth Yeah, but those just increase or decrease the odds. I wish there were actual differences between origins. Like Hobbits moving around without being attacked while in melee, or elves having an extra shot with the bow or use a bow in close combat or something.
