    At first I was disappointed that he wasn't switching back and forth, but I get why they did it this way - to make it look like this is all in his mind - Hyde is taking over Jekyll who is trying to keep it together...

    Saw the original on Broadway in the 90's and this horror show of a remake. This was possibly the "wurst" performance of what WAS a spectacular Broadway show. Two thumbs down and a clothespin for your nose for this stinker of a remake.

    I don’t like this very much, but I will say one thing I appreciate: it gives a reason for the song to end: he takes the “antidote”. Most other versions have Jekyll winning just, because. Still a bad production overall, but I love the little details peppered in

    I need to know how people do not see this as an internal battle? A mirror is a symbol for the reflection of who somebody is. This is a perfect way to represent a 'confrontation' between his outer more "normal" self and his inner dark personality. It is still internalized because he is speaking to his own reflection. He isn't fighting with another 3 dimensional being 🤷‍♂️ it also gives the actor a chance to actually breathe on stage... we can't have them run out of breath during a performance now can we? 😅 however, it is not negating or going against the other way of performing this song, which can be just as effective if done right with a lot of talent... I think that both ways are both incredible and no one should dislike the one way just because the other way is the version you're used to 🤷‍♂️ also it's nice to see a change and someone trying something different for once because a copy of something else can get quite boring 🙈

    About everybody talking about the one or two actor version of the song, i want to give my vision about it. One actor - I thing it's powerful, and you can see how the pain and agony jekyll show during the transformation, as he's quickly becomes hyde, it's good, and its very important to the show. Two actors/pre recorded - I thing this role thing have such more power, like you are now deep into the jekyll and hyde universe, and you know see the show like the two characters see as well, you watch jekyll looking at hyde its a powerful and very significant thing, you are seeing just like the characters is seeing, and this can be such a powerful meaning in this show. Well, that's my opinion, i love the both

    What most of you seem to forget is that, in the original 94/5 production, Hyde was also a projection with pre-recorded vocals. Jekyll would turn his back to the audience during Hyde's lines to grab a breather. Do I like the concept of the one man switcheroo? Yeah, it can look great if performed/timed well. Do I think this version fit the metal aesthetic of the production and should be judged on its own merits? Absolutely.

      Well, in the very original world premiere production from 1990 they actually had another actor playing Hyde from behind a one-way mirror!

      "What most of you seem to forget is that, in the original 94/5 production, Hyde was also a projection with pre-recorded vocals" that was during the Pre-Broadway engagements / tour. When it premiered on Broadway itself, I believe they did it with Robert Cuccioli switching back and forth between Jekyll and Hyde without projection and prerecorded vocals.

    I absolutely love this version and here's why; in the original version the actor switches back and forth between the two characters, illustrating their split personalities and showing off the actor's ability to transition between the two seamlessly. However, that's only if it is done right. With the traditional method, actors run the risk of playing it disingenuously and what should have been a suspenseful and heart-wrenching moment for the audience, turns into a dull cliche, or worse, comedic. This version however, shows the internal struggle Jekyll faces by shifting the perspective from outside to inside his mind. Look at the digital effects. The images of shattered glass, fire, eyes fixed on Jekyll while a demonic Hyde menacingly looms over him are symbolic. What better way to illustrate the chaotic state of Jekyll's tortured mind?

    • @dankiumzed2831
      @dankiumzed2831 4 года назад

      I couldn't agree more! If you search an animatic of this song, they show Jekyll's internal struggle to free himself from Hyde. This version gives of those vibes that does the some justice!

    • @frostylunetta

  • @JulietteVeronica1201

    Something that I would like to see, because I would love to be a Broadway director/scriptwriter when I graduate college, is if they had the mirror like this version but Hyde would only show up when Jekyll was looking directly into it. And they sort of did the same thing with the one-man-fight in the original broadway run. They would have to position the mirror at a certain angle and make it pretty big but I think it would be fascinating to see a Jekyll and Hyde fight in one man's body like how they initially were, but make it look like two different people from the audience's perspective. Almost like they're directly looking at each other, which is the mirror, but really Jekyll is just looking back at himself and he sees Hyde.

    • @sunnihelianthus268
      @sunnihelianthus268 3 года назад

      That sounds absolutely awesome and I'd so love to see it! I can imagine Jekyll walking back and forth past it in the first bit of the song not noticing it until Hyde starts singing-

  • @brinmoody
    @brinmoody 5 лет назад

    the one thing I like most about this version is the general idea behind it... Instead of having it be a physical back and forth like how it is more traditionally done, this really makes it more of a mental battle... We're seeing what is going on inside of his head as he's fighting with Hyde. Hyde is trying to claw his way out, and Henry is pushing back, and we're seeing that mental struggle Henry is having (live on the stage) with Hyde in his mind, trying to keep his hold over Henry.

    I like this. The effects and visuals are cool. However, there was something special about seeing one guy duet with himself; it took a really good performer to pull that off. This actually makes the song rather unimpressive That said, the distorted voice was really creepy and this was definitely a mindfuck, which I presume was what they were going for.

    I was definitely blown away by the visuals, but it still doesn't make up for the magic that was seeing an actor portray two roles as once in the same song. There's just something about that that no special effects would be able to top. And let's be honest, I think we can all agree that the reverb effect at the end was a little much.
