Every Student's control group was watered on a regular basis and was planted with 100 monocot seeds (wheat) and 100 dicot seeds (soybeans). Control group seeds were planted approximately 1" deep in the same type of soil.

We "Rebuilt" a 12 Volt generator from a 460 International Tractor with a 221 engine. After tearing the generator down we gave it a good cleaning and checked the connections. We did not need to replace any of the parts. The generator is now on the tractor and functions perfectly. Special thank you to "Buster" the WWII veteran who volunteers at school.

I remember when it was a daily thing to repair a generator on a vehicle or farm tractor Dad would turn them and use growlers to test it We still have lots of parts left to rebuild and all the equipment plus it works great

The float shaft should hold tight. This old carb isn't like new ones. There is enough room for it to slide out. If you use the screwdriver in the slot below and turn it they will open enough to slide the pin in. When released it will grip it. Good video.

Difference between alternator and generator. Alternator creates ac current . Then converts to DC. Generator makes DC current.

Thank you!! Very helpful! I bought a late 60s Jacobsen Chief 1200 on my birthday eve a few days ago (a Ford 100 clone) sight unseen and found it had a weak starter generator, which I have it apart here on my computer desk. It's in great condition, brushes have 30% life left, I am going to clean it up, reassemble, change the gas, clean the carb, and say a prayer of thanksgiving and turn the key with expectation. Then put a rebuild kit in it later if the engine runs. - robb in South Dakota

was disapointed the new kit didnt provide for a retainer spring to prevent the needle from sticking like they use on brigs and straton just a little clip to tye the needle to the float traveling up and down

Wow. My old tractor is not generating good consistent power from the generator. I’m changing the regulator as it’s cheap but this is my planB! Generators are $300 + for rebuild and convert to alternator is ugly bracket and not original so don’t want it. Thanks.

Actually to do this test connect F & D together then with the case grounded give power to the FD connection, it will go quicker as the field gets stronger. It's not proof positive but a fair assumption that all is ok.

Just make sure it’s not spinning too fast because the voltage will loop and it will eventually self destruct.. this is really only an issue if it’s being tested on a vehicle.

Any chance you need a piston ring compressor? And maybe a rubber mallet? This guys probably done many more engines than me, but hes the first guy Ive seen put in pistons without a compressor and using a metal hammer on machined parts.

I believe the problem is that the field tap is getting 12V instead of the motor/generator tap. The field circuit is good, but leaving that connected for more than a few seconds could burn up the field winding. Inflec was right about "motoring" but he was motoring the unit with the field coil rather than the Gen tap and coil. If he wanted to get the unit to act as a motor, then he should have applied +12V to the other tap (usually marked "Gen").

The sander is a really bad idea, i would use a drill press or lathe to spin the armature and use a fine emory paper to clean it off. you dont want to make the armature out of balance. Use lathe to even out the commutator if need be, but emory to just clean it. And be careful not to mare the shaft.

A generator produces DC current and an Alternator produces AC current which is converted to DC thru the diode trio. If you're going to teach, you should know the material.

It is spinning slower because you do not have the field terminal grounded. It is turning using only the residual magnetism in the pole shoes. It should motor just like it is with the way you have it hooked up and then speed up when you ground the F terminal to the case. When you ground the Field terminal you now will have the field coils adding electromagnetism to what the the pole shoes already have. The slow speed tests the armature. The faster speed is testing both armature and field coils.

I'm sure this gentleman has experience but this video leaves a lot out. All parts should be cleaned by chemical soaking to clean internal passages and rust needs to be removed as it can break free and ruin this "rebuild" later.

I'm sure this gentleman has experience but this video leaves a lot out. All parts should be cleaned by chemical soaking to clean internal passages and rust needs to be removed as it can break free and ruin this "rebuild" later. THe float rod is held in place by the body when assembled and does not need to be "clamped". Another problem with old cast iron items is warping and distortion that can not always prevent later leakage problem. These mating surfaces should be checked and surfave ground or hand filed if the rebuilder knows how to do so without causing more damage.
