John R Longcroft-Neal
Великобритания
Добавлен 17 июн 2011
I live in Nuneaton, which is in the middle of England. I was a middle school teacher for 25 years and then retired early and moved on to a career as a self-employed signwriter. This work took me into video making for tutorials about signwriting and later, surprisingly popular was handwriting for adults. My old RUclips channel is devoted to this work.
Since I retired five years ago when I was 65 I was able to indulge in my other hobbies/ activities, such as cycling, videography, local history and painting, more music and vlogging in general. It is said that the death knell of any RUclips channel is to be diverse and deal with lots of different subjects, well this is exactly what I'm doing. My previous channel had 17,000 subscribers but now I can just about muster 500. I see this as an advantage because the dedicated few who comment on my videos are a precious gang that I get to know quite well. Each video on this channel has more details about me.

Hello John, I´ve been following your videos for a few years now, they are relaxing to me; I started watching the blackboard signs at first which I thank you for. Now I have decided myself to give it a go to blackboard art myself, and I do remember you recomending years ago some brushes from Rosemary called flat shiraz, but I´m not sure if you meant the long or short ones. I would appreciate if you could recomend me on that and which numbers would you advice me on buying if you are so kind. Thirty year ago we went to the Lake District; this video brought in many memories. Best regards from Granada (Spain). José M. Valverde
amzn.eu/d/fuFdupd Hi Jose These look ok. Thanks for watching and for your kind comments.
I really like all your videos and wish I could do it. I have tried to find Jamie Stuart Ridgeway on RUclips, but alas without sucess, I could not spot your link on the bottom of your page, am I making a mistake in the spelling? Regards Chris
Sorry to hear that try search on facebook.
Really interesting John. we live locally at Upton so its extra special . thanks for what you do .
Thanks and my pleasure.
Few years ago they reduced the steepness of the the cutting sides because of land slips. I have fond memories of playing in the brickyard when it was abandoned.
Didn't see any digesters at the treatment works , there are some surely
Just found your channel. I do a bit as I walk my dog, sometimes rubbish is dropped near a litter bin! Thanks great video. (Did you ever see Larry Grayson when he was around, I know he came from your area. Very funny man.)
Yes I saw him get out of a Rolls in town once. He lived in the next street.
@@JRLNeal That's interesting. Thanks for your reply.
Hi John, I work for Keep Wales Tidy in Aberavon, we have 1 bin for 1 pub, 3 shops and two takeaways, the council are adamant they will not install any more bins, anyway it makes me feel much better cleaning it all up and having peace of mind that I'm doing my bit for the community, so keep up the good work mate.
@@DJJinxC2006 keep up the good work

Great video but don’t know how you can say that the public footpath from Higham Lane to Wedding Road is well used. It’s really over grown at the Weddington Road End and clearly underused.
@@DaveFiddler I do see people heading down there but maybe they don’t go right though to Weddington.
@@JRLNeal might do a RUclips video of nettle stings on my knees
A good thing to do 😀 I wonder what the correlation is with trees and litter? Did you mean that? Would a sign printed on bags stop littering, though? Shame the trees have gone though. Possibly diseased?
I don’t follow. Tell me the time marker in the video, please.
@@JRLNeal After 8.20. I try to encourage our local council (in The Netherlands) not to fell urban trees without good purpose, so I might be being a bit over-sensitive! I'm sure you didn't mean anything bad about trees. 😀
@@bb2021 of my videos, you'll see that I really do love trees. In fact, I did one video just about the trees in my neighbourhood. The trees that are missing were Leylandi just a boring green block about 4 m high. The ground underneath did in fact attract Litter. ruclips.net/video/tCPDD-Prr9A/видео.htmlsi=BCi1jHvn5YBSK6bX
@@JRLNeal I'm sure. I wasn't criticising, just wondered what you meant. It was just a question.
Before COVID, I used to go out and pick litter. I didn't have any picker or that handy collar for the bag and I used to sort recyclables out and put them in my bin. Probably should go back to it.
Really good to do it as a group, make it a fun little project

Wow! Spectacular landscapes. One of your best videos!
Thanks Jim. Hope you enjoyed the maps and are recovering well.

Glad you enjoyed it
I love in Tamworth but I like Nuneaton
I was born in stockingford my grand parents lived at 150 tunnel road in galley common in the old pit houses, lot of fond memory’s of walking around the old tips with my grandad and his dogs. Btw my grandad used to work with Larry Grayson when he was a miner before he became famous.
Thanks Darren.
HS2 is going almost to Litchfield. Don’t know were you found your map that say Berkswell in that location. Berkswell is a couple of miles away. I know this because I lived in Carol Green went to school in Ballsal Common & attended Berkswell Scouts. The are already tunnelling in towards Euston. So you appear to be factually incorrect on at least two points. About half way through you said I am not going to offer an opinion. When right at the start you called it a White Elephant.
we live not far from there . next year will hopefully visit . our son was in the army air corps would love it too .
Hi John, I just came across this video, which is my introduction to yourself and your work. As a Brummie now living in the area, I'm interested to learn more about it. Hi John I am the ground works project manager on the Higham Northampton Academy site - thanks for the videos, they are very interesting. To answer a question - the large area to the East of the construction works will eventually be a number of sports pitches and an athletics track. Keep up the good work Graham
@@GrahamSutherland-p4q many thanks Graham. That very useful information.
Honestly thought John would have been flying off into the sky at the end 😂 Great video John 👍👍
With regard to the village sign, I don’t know if you noticed but it is double sided. The other side includes a picture of Michael Drayton which was painted by a pupil from Michael Drayton School. The other illustrations are by Steve Lach who contributed illustrations to Joan Allen’s very interesting book on Hartshill history, “Heardred’s Hill”.
I’ll have to have a closer look. Thanks for the information.
Some nice hard facing on those reamers👍
I thought that too!

I also appreciated the shot of my departure in the Maule. @@JRLNeal indeed we try our best to keep life in order.
Pulling the plug now on this project is utter madness, considering the billions of pounds invested in all the tunnels, all the viaducts built.
Enjoyed that like I do most cycling vids. I have a rather heavy and cumbersome Cube e-bike so am looking to purchase the nippy Estarli 20" folding range which should get me out more. There appeared to be some nice countryside near where you live and that appeals to me too. I live in Exeter, Devon but as you'll know, city expansion makes access to the green lanes a bit longer and I've noticed great changes over the last 30 years. With a folding or even a light weight bike, it does at least become easier to take on a train and travel a few stops to leave the city limits behind to begin one's journey. Happy travels🚴♂👍
@@nafs53 thanks for watching. The e20 would be a good choice.
Thank you John for another great video. I especially enjoyed the video of the beautiful Church. Did you know that there is also a thriving Community Centre adjacent to the Church?
Thanks Sue. Yes I could see that. My wife took our sons there as toddlers 40 years ago!
Brilliant video again! you are really doing yourself and this area proud matey 🙂 I was really hoping that you might go back and do something on the castle, hence my comment of the last video, I'm really glad you did, it's such an important piece of local history 🙂 I was thinking, I live in Bedworth and work at the Bedworth Garden Project in the Miner's Welfare Park, at the minute, they have just started to build the new leisure centre there and the old one is due to be demolished in the near future, it would be great to see the old one and the new site from the air? and if you were in the area, you could fly over the garden project and Mayor's cafe, it might help people in the local area realise just how big our site is and help out the charity's profile a bit? It's a lovely place and worth a trip out The park itself is pretty big and interesting too, like the old canal arm and railway line to Newdigate Colliery etc Also, you could have some apples or tomatoes or something in exchange :-p or a cuppa?
Good idea. I’ll see what can do. I did a couple of videos in the miners Welfare about the burning of the Covid remembrance sculpture. ruclips.net/video/-B-QjXj-nzM/видео.htmlsi=WCEbgliv0iPu37Hs

Ha - I withdraw my comment yesterday John. Thanks for going back and including the castle - an important and often forgotten part of our local heritage.
😅
The motte and bailey is on the right of the path. When you reach the ruins.
Yes I did see earthworks on the right. Thanks.
Pleasant video. Loved seeing the decorative brickwork on Holy Trinity.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Didn't point out the castle originally dating from the 12th century as you flew over John. Well worth a mention although the castle itself is private property. Sadly, I understand it has been vandalised since I was last invited there. People have been living in the area of the castle for 10,000 years, originally nomads that moved around the local area. Another interesting fact well worth knowing and noting is that there are adders in and around the castle area presumably stretching into the country park.
The recreation ground, you walked over; was once a stone quarry, then became a landfill site. Would have loved the drone to follow, Nuneaton Road from the Green to Mancetter Road.
@@geoffward7786 thanks for that Geoff. Maybe I’ll return and fly that route.
John, I also lived in Charnwood drive 1978-1986 and remember all those places and thanks for the video.

A very enjoyable video John. Have you seen the new village sign on the Green? I believe the sign and the bench you sat on were provided by the Parish Council.
Thanks Sue. I’ll look out for the sign.
