Dear young people. Please please please get a mortgage as soon as you can. The state of the property is irrelevant. If you can only afford a tiny dump in a wasteland then that is what you should get. You can upgrade later. The point is that once you have a mortgage you are immune to rent increases for the rest of your life. Trust me when I say that people who buy a property young will do better than people who wait or never buy.

You can apply to local housing schemes for over-55s housing. Many places accept dogs. If you are at risk of being homeless they will prioritise you. Or if your circumstances are unhealthy/dangerous you get priority. I'm in Housing 21. One of the best but definitely not the cheapest. There are much cheaper and if you go up north they get very affordable. A good option for you. You just need to register online with them. "Homes Plus" have many affordable and easy/quick to get. They know older people like to have pets.

I totally understand you. I think you are both lucky and smart to be able to think/feel like it. I am the same. I actually avoid people. I live in my computer because it's a window to the world. RUclips is the nearest I get to socialising. I hide away in my little retirement studio flat and happily watch the world go round. Lonely = unhappily alone. Lonesome = Happily alone.

Same thing happened to me in my van... It was scary as no door would open and I was inside...my mum was in her home but as her carer I I couldn't let her know what was wrong ... She had dementia ... Fortunately one her neighbours was our predicament and called in my mum to make her a cuppa while I waited for the key man to rescue me... I was very nervous for several weeks about the keys ... It cost me £285 with only one key being central locking!! Fun and games make life stories to tell the grandkids lol

Kev, where do you park up? Do you park in different places all the time, in a certain spot? Where I live its pretty urban and difficult to find park ups near where I need to be.

I would have to live in my car, if the uk weather was different that wouldn't be a problem... I loved living in my van but I got very ill 2 years ago, and couldn't cope... I have my van to a couple who needed a home and had zero money, and I was rehoused... Fast forward to now ... I would give anything to be back in a van ... But retired and high bills it seems like a dream rather than reality.... It is scary as an older woman who can't do her own conversion stuff..But I have to say my mental health was great and I mostly slept like a log... Watching RUclips helps a bit lol ... !!

Hey mate glad you still have your mate, I find estate agents not the highest moral creatures around. I would never consider giving up my dog. If someone says that to me I just say yeh I adopted my kids out and gave them away, I think one of them got put down cause they couldn’t find another home. Sad buts that life I suppose, Kept my dog though would never give him up. Haha

Very informative video, and I also would keep my pet. It is unfortunate that you had such difficulties, getting just a studio or 1 bedroom with pet restrictions.
