Hummm, hate when i discover a cool and its been dead for over a year...... is everything alright?
hello! things have been well, just been particularly busy with other things. :) i do hope to return to youtube soon though!
1:14 was that a black framework?!?!?!
Awesome video, thank you! I think I'll go all in on an AMD Framework 13 this weekend.
i like your stickerbomb job on your framework, mine should be arriving in few days
When docking your laptop vertically. Please point the exhaust up. Heat goes up, so youre probably heating up your battery and other internals because the exhaust is pointing downwards.
Battery life concerns me
I have the Ryzen 5 7640u, I did upgrade to a 61wh battery on light tasks like web browsing you can easily get 4-5 hours on battery life, I played Miles Morales for 1 hour exact and it dropped my battery to 58%. On power saving mode you can push about 6 hours on light tasks

Framework is the coolest company ever - if you want to do the right thing - get a Framework laptop
Great video Sir ! Please I wanna order the framework 13 pre-built - please I will appreciate if you can help me to get the shipping to South Africa 🇿🇦 or Kenya 🇰🇪 or Ethiopia?? Also please tell me what are the essential Modular to buy when ordering?? Thank you 🙏
Great review, keep up the good work!
Can you upgrade the speakers? Thanks for this review!
hello, im not sure if you'll see this comment. But I'm currently looking at getting a framework, and they are by no means cheap so i wan't to make the right decision. I love the idea of getting a framework, but I'm not sure if I should go for the framework 13 or 16. I would use the computer with windows 11, and play/record videos and edit them/stream minecraft (with shaders, like sort of raytracing, wouldnt stream with this by the way just the base game). Along with titanfall 2, rust maybe, every fallout game besides 76, the forest, no mans sky and red dead 2, and my indie collection. Mostly all the AAA games on that list i will be playing in my free time not on stream/recordings. I will be using either davinchi resolve or premiere pro to edit. Photoshop and animate/illustrate for art. Blender for 3D art, and godot for my game engine for doing game dev. So the question is do i get the less expensive, and specced down, Framework 13, which specified to my liking is (1900-2100 dollars AUD) but I'm not able to add a dedicated GPU in the future. Or the Framework 16, with more power, cooling space, larger screen and ability to house a GPU. But its 3000-3100 dollars AUD (without dedicated GPU which would be another 400 dollars). So after daily driving the framework 13 for 8 months, and using it for similar tasks as i would, what do you think i should buy?
hey there! judging from the games you've mentioned specifically, i think the 16-inch framework would be a great option, only for the discrete GPU. however, this doesn't consider preferences on display size, portability, or battery life, and it's especially hard to gauge the battery life specifically since there aren't any benchmarks available (as far as i know). i do want to mention the 13-inch framework also supports discrete graphics through a thunderbolt-connected external GPU, and, although it may not be the best value, it would still give you the flexibility to dock onto any graphics card of your choice. i haven't done the math on how a 13-inch with an eGPU compares to the 16-inch, but it is something to potentially consider. right now, with the 16-inch not out yet, i would recommend waiting to see how things look from reviewers. the only thing i can recommend right now is, no matter what form factor you go, i would definitely recommend the AMD platform over Intel. sorry i can't be too specific, it's just hard to make a definitive recommendation since there's not a lot of information out right now. do feel free to reach out if you have any more questions though!
@@hundotio thanks for the reply. I think i'll likely go for a FW 16 once they are out for a while and hopefully become a little bit cheaper. The external GPU via thunderbolt was a thing i considered, but they cost too much for me sadly. I'll take your advice into account when purchasing a framework.
now that the framework 16 is out and has been sold-out for the next like year> i am very confident framework is here to stay
What a great review @ren I think this machine is what many people are looking for due to the right to repair. This is what I was looking for in years for a completely repairable laptop in such a smart compact device. While I was at high school and university I used to built my own desktops. I hope companies like framework emerge to create such great value devices like this. When I read that you can even change the motherboard that just blowed my mind!
Looks really nice! Will definitely consider a Framework when my current lappy ages out.
hey bro what was that how did you re open all the apps at once ?? @ 4:44
hello! that was my obsidian loading, and the windows flashing were detached obsidian pages.
Love the video and review but I have to ask what wallpaper you are using at 3:17. It looks really good.
Thank you very much! The artist's name is GUWEIZ :) twitter.com/ttguweiz/status/1480892525376274432 www.reddit.com/r/wallpaper/comments/spayal/3840x2160_samuraigirl/
@@hundotio Appreciate it lol
That camera looks very very good for a webcam...
Cool to see someone from the infosec world using a framework laptop, going to use mine for uni&pentest stuff as well. Curious how good dual boot will work. Really great video👍🏼
I think we have the same Tecknet wireless mouse, at least by the looks of the purple USB-A dongle at 6:53 :D
"Affordable" machine that XPS 13 with the same spec is even $100 cheaper...and I don't think xps 13 would have the same driver and speaker issues, not to mention the pathetic 4hr game-laptop-level battery life (you don't even have a discrete GPU...).
Really good review man. I'm thinking of getting the 16 inch
What if framework made phones
So underrated! Love the vibe, and I'll definitely be taking 'inspiration' from your setup ;) Also, Framework gang rise up!
You support right to repair, but still bought an M1...
Well Apples main reason to develop an ARM chip was so it isnt compatible with anything. Thats their policy. Restricting the User in their choices. And theyre so good at it that its become a severe danger to consumers over the past decade.
Windows sucks anyway.. Just keep using Linux ;)
you dont really need an EGPU you can simply upgrade the motherboard to a ryzen 780M APU wich is about as powerful as a GTX 1060 more than enough for the games you showed
Where did you get those stickers
redbubble! :)
hey, with normal tasks like school work or web browsing, how warm does the laptop get? have you noticed the bottom get too warm or the keyboard/palm rests? heavily considering doing the pre order for batch 1 of the 16’s
with basic tasks in Linux, I didn't really notice any significant heat output. In Windows, however, it was a bit hotter, where most of the heat was through the exhaust right below the bezel. For web / light usage, it was very usable/cool. :)
nice to see a new video from you!! I've actually also been taking similar steps in getting rid of things in my room that I don't need, being much more purposeful with the items I keep and where I keep them. It's really nice to feel sense of the mental fog being cleared when there's not so many things laying around bombarding my attention. It's also helpful in sowing confidence since I'm making more purposeful decisions and not regretting them.
how do you feel about the recently announced 16 inch framework? its has an upgraded screen, amd specs, and has the ability for modular dGPUs
It looks amazing! I don't think I'll ever get one, but I do plan on keeping updated on future releases. :)
can you do an update for the framework laptop
I think in March or April I ended up selling my Framework. I dearly love the laptop and everything Framework is doing, but I always ended up using my Macbook instead. As much as I tried daily driving it, I consistently put it back into a drawer. That doesn't mean I dislike it, though. It just didn't fit my needs. I will always recommend it if you're looking for a Linux/Windows laptop. It has an amazing keyboard, trackpad, and screen, and if you can get by with not-so-great speakers and around 3-4 hours of battery life, it's awesome. Especially with their proven upgrade path, I think it's still an amazing choice although relatively expensive. I don't know if they've addressed the module battery drain issues, as that was a pretty big problem for me.
Show me a laptop I can just pull components off the shelf and put inside (like a desktop). Right now these are fancy PCMCIA port laptops that you can change a few internals on. MOST people will buy this and just switch out whats on the side of the laptop (connectivity), which was going on 20 years ago with PCMCIA. in my opinion, a fancy rip off.
1:10 "weary" lol
if you wanted virtualization why go for macbook its just fancy linux at the first place
Yo, what wallpaper have you got there on the m1 mac?
Unrelated but honestly bro how are you using manjaro I thought they ran that OS into the ground haha. Ever plan on some Linux vids? Thanks for the FW review
In the beginning I was using Manjaro, but had some bad stability issues. I think about a month or so into owning the Framework, I switched to Pop_OS!, which was significantly better for what I needed. :) As for Linux videos, I have a lot of updates for my HomeLab in the works, just need to start making them!
is this ShortCircuit? Love the video, i think i might buy one in the future.
Dakota State Trojans sticker?
Over-hyped hot piece of garbage, with Walmart build quality. It may run games, for sure. The same games you can play on a phone, but with a high price tag. So what's the point?
Hanging back in the hopes they'll eventually do a 2in1 tablet format.
Ren , very interesting video👍👍👍
ima cu
great video
thank you very much:)
It's not always about just procrastinating. Very often it's about satisfying your emotional needs rather than being fake productive. Self-care is productive imo
i totally agree! :))
@@hundotiohow abt the number of clothes u have? & if u know jim browning, may u try to guess how does he take control scammers PCs, could he be using a remote software is modified to also allow reverse connections without the scammer knowing?
Is there any other option but to have at least a 12U server? Gotta leave that room for more rack server nodes! (Edit: Amazing video man!!)
heck yeah man! :D
Amazing video bro.. kinda cool
👋
Love the vibe of your channel! We're pretty similar in terms of wardrobe, general aesthetics, and tech-inclination, it feels absolutely therapeutic when I watch your videos.
That's awesome! Thank you very much for the kind words as well. :)
