It may behoove you people to know what chaff is. It's sprayed from helicopters and small rockets from the ground in a small area of the sky to confuse enemy radar. It's not secret and it's not even new. It has nothing to do with weather modification either..

I bet that chaff is being dropped to cover up the volcanic plumes and venting going on out there.

Sorry, but you cannot tell me that chaff is being delivered in bulk all over the country in criss cross patterns every day in a military exercise... I don't buy it for a second.

Lets make a conspericy of everything. I use to load chaff on C-130 at Travis AFB back in the 70's. Chaff is a low quality tin-foil (not aluminium) designed to deterioate back to earth within 60 days. Comet cleanser is more of a hazard to the enviorment. When we would go on trainning runs that required release of chaff (not very often) it would only be despenced over mountianess areas as to not be a nusance and mother nature was more effective in its breakdown.

Reading reactions that this is staged to provide us with another lie or he was really nervous and thought "I gotta say it now" Too me it doesn't matter much now people seen this and will think aswell ye what are those stripes almost everyday in the sky? I hope these people do some research and don't believe immediatly what the anchorman is saying as like beachcomber2008 said Chaff is solid you can't spray it and isn't harmful further and breaks no regulation.....

@apparition2 CHAFF is SOLID. You can't "spray" it, any more than you can "spray" teaspoons. It's made of metallicized fibres just over an inch long. It isn't poisonous, and breaks no regulations. Moo. Splat.

My fellow colleague meteorologist is saying nothing that I nor most of my other colleagues and aviation experts not already know. Chaff, which is in no way 'chemical', is harmless and its existence is not denied by the military. Commenting on the nature of certain exercises is another thing, though. No conspirancy here, people... move along.
