Part of the problem is games are crazy expensive most of the time. A good example is It Still Wakes The Deep... 35$ for 2h of gameplay. No replay value. A 1 and done game. Some indie companies are asking for more than AAA companies when it come to value to gameplay

06:00 It doesnt matter what you want to believe: it is the others opinion that matter. Like you thinking you have any say about choosing a pronoun: you can believe at whatever you want, but others that will decide how to call you and that will be reality, no matter if you disagree.

01:22 To devs, set your companies as a Brazilian ones (register it here, instead of your current country): it is illegal to charge merchants for chargeback, and actually if the credit card does that you simply open a court contest and you will get the double to the money back. In this example the company would be 900K from whoever charged the company 450K. Steam exists here in Brazil, so any problem will be under Brazil's legislations. Today Brazil currency is around one sixth of a dollar, so you can set the small office her with few employees as the HQ, but keep your studio in USA developing the game. It would be the equivalent of setting an account in Cayman Islands to send your money with low taxes.

When I have learned enough to code, I'm gonna release my reviewer versions on special reviewer edition DVDs and not digitally,, and leave the digitals exclusive to Steam and maybe also a custom launcher as an alternative option. I hate the idea that a key reseller makes all the profits while an indie like me working with a budget of 2p and a ton of store brand canned foods earns nothing to go towards future projects, I'd rather people pirated mine than bought it from some scammer instead.

Majority of the time i will wait for the game to go on sale and if its not a good enough sale i will wait for a better one.

The nasty stuff is that my currency is not listed on Steam and somehow if I want to buy something I almost all the time go to sites like G2A or Humble to afford the game. The price difference for me is insane my currency is x5 lower than the euro or dollars for example. I prefer to use a secondary card with a few euros on it than to actually pirate the game. As others mentioned small studios = buy directly from the publisher or major official platform. Big greedy AAA corporation = Resellers can take my money in this situation. Peace :).

It is important to note, that game publishers can decide if they even want to distribute keys. If the publisher does not want to give out keys, they don't have to. I really don't understand how they keep on making a big deal out of key resellers stealing their keys, when they are literally in control of the keys.

Not sure if I’m the only one but keeping the game on Pirate Bay might be not a solution. I just like a game to be on steam (all my games). Rather just keep the game for free on Steam or so cheap that it is not worth to get on G2A and then rather focus on microtransactions which are bound on your account and can’t be given to another player. What I wanna say is, there are a lot of games to crack for free, but I rather pay just to have it on Steam and to habe easy updates.

Another consideration that I wuold make is that pirating a indie developer game is way worse than pirating one from a major developer. I really don't care about pirating Microsoft software (Windows, Office...) because they don't need my money, they're already filthy rich thanks to their near monopolistic position, but I wanted to give my money to McMullan and Refenes, for example, for their SuperMeatBoy, and wanted to pay for No Man Sky, when Hello managed to fix it, because I had quite a bit of fun with it. I can accept the practice of downloading a pirated version of a game, try the full version for a bunch of days, and then buy the game if you like it. It seems fair, expecially because demo versions are not always good, even when they're available.

This shit was the reasone steam changed Turkish lira pricing into direct dolar pricing. I hate how this caused a problem for countries like Argentina and Turkey which now buys nearly no games as even 10 dolar games are too expensive for most people. I remember in victoria 3 steam discussions an idiot saying "No worries , Turkish price is still less than other ones" or something along those lines. This was before dolar converstion. Most games had 600 percent price increases in idie games before this dolar conversion as they were selling with 1.5 liras to 3 liras per dolar (which was great) and they were losing a lot to resellers

    • @My_Old_YT_Account

While most of the things said in this video are true, the main issue I see here is that no matter what happens to the key after it is bought, meaning, even if the key is never sold, the charge back will still apply to the developer once the credit card owner cancels his card/notify the bank. The problem here isn't the reseller, but the banking system failing to manage such cases in a way that isn't detrimental to it's user. In a similar case to illustrate my point, Pirate Software's Thor explained why he stopped using paypal to take donation, because the chargeback fees in case a transaction is cancelled are litterally threatening his business, as he would be charged more than the amount paid originally, essentially losing him money. If the banking systems didn't charge back the game studios, for reasons that they are completely unrelated to, or don't play any part in, the game studios wouldn't mind people buying keys on these website, as they wouldn't be losing money upstream. It would still make them no money, but they wouldn't run a deficit.
