Slaying trout in December on the Current River
Просмотров 58721 час назад
After all the flooding, high water and very cold weather, I finally got on the current river. It was well worth it. I meant to try several new flies, but ended up only using an Ice Lady nymph behind a size 16 caddis. Both flies did so well, that I saw no need to change.
Mosquito Parachute
Просмотров 77День назад

Tying a Caenis (The Anglers Curse) in size 20
Thank you for the demonstration.
Thanks for watching.
@Callaweginflyfishing You're welcome
Thats a interesting looking insect. Fish love them and for some reason they really like the odd ones best. So you should do well with that one. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, I think it will do well.
Nice job Robert thanks for the continued content
Thanks
Awesome video it’s nice to see someone play out the fight instead of just ski’n em across the water
Love playing bluegill on a fly rod. Thanks
You are going to have a great lineup of flies for a new box for spring. Be blessed. My friend.
Filled my last box. Just started a new one.
Well, you powered through, and it turned out great. May be you just need to relax with a nice scotch drink and wat h the snow and plan your next attack on the trout and bluegill. We will wait patiencely for your next fly. Be blessed. My friend.
Actually, I hit the scotch right after I finally got the fly right. Darn snow is up to about 8 inches, don't know when I'll get on the river again. Take care.
Your day at the bench sounds like my yesterday. Dropped hooks and beads, microtubing unraveled after the whip finish, like that. Perseverance furthers as the man said. And there’s always single malt.
@@chili1593 Yea, some days take more single malt than others. Thanks
@ amen brother.
That is a nice fuzzy looking fly. Fish see to like fuzzy flies, so you should have a lot of fun with it. Be blessed. My friend.
Trouble is, I start with one or two flies and if they work, I don't change all day. Hard to try out several different new flies on one trip.
How will you fish that larva Robert since it is unweighted
After it gets wet, it should run shallow. We'll see how that works. I may tie a few with some lead to cover all bases. Thanks
I really like that little fly. Your getting ingredients good making those wings. Well with the weather coming in this weekend. The fishing at the ponds is probably done until late February or March. It was good while it lasted. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, the weather looks bad. Time to stay inside and tie a few more flies.
Just curious Robert but how many fly boxes do you own ? Nice egg, thanks for posting.
At last count somewhere around eight full. Thanks
@@Callaweginflyfishing 😀
du bindest super fliegen verständliches vorführen danke
Thanks
Interesting bug thanks
From what I've observed, it will work. Thanks
@ that’s a good thing!
I've heard that some guys do well with them. Hope you do as well. Be blessed. My friend. Happy New Year.
Well see, if I can make myself go to the dark side and use it. Thanks
Awesome video looks fun & enjoyable day, looked through your channel & didn't see a video on tying the Ice Lady Fly,looks like a simple tie, enjoy your channel we have the same approach keep it simple stupid (KISS),tight lines & bent rods 🤙 🇺🇸
The link to the tying video is: ruclips.net/video/-dK03Ad6BWI/видео.html
Those small rainbows are going to help the browns grow even larger.
Oh yea.
Robert What size ice lady midge did you have under the caddisfly thanks for sharing
It was a size 16. Thanks
I have had good luck with a brown mohair leach in those waters during fall and summer where you were fishing
Isn't it amazing how much the river changed? Fished Tat Van a couple of weeks ago and you could have thrown rock in the river and hit fish.
Yea, I think it was all the trout that got washed out of the hatchery. Thanks
@Callaweginflyfishing @Callaweginflyfishing I know it is lol. We had this happen back in 14 or 15 on the current. I wade and amazing how it all changed. Will be good fishing up and down for the next couple years.
It was nice watching you have fun catching trout on those flies you've tied. The on that gotcha sometimes the fish just get you back for fooling them. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, but its worth it. Thanks
A lot of trout escaped into the river during the flood, 950,000 from what I read. Still they are fun.
Hope the river can support them. Thanks
Looked like a fine time on the river, was that a weekend or week day you was there ? Thanks for sharing your info.
It was a Saturday, a little crowed, but still fishable. Thanks
I can see why the trout would love those. Don't forget to tie a few for your brother. Be blessed. My friend.
I bought my brother a swiss multi-loop tool and some CDC, he can tie his own. Thanks
Catch and release trout opens next week. I will tie up a few of these and give them a try. . Assuming the weather cooperates.
Yea, I expect they will work well. Thanks
Worth the learning curve. Thanks and happy holidays.
Happy Holidays to you too. Thanks
Definitely buggy, nice job.........
You never know. Thanks
That looks like a great panfish and trout pattern. It is interesting how a little peacock makes a big difference to fish. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, you cant beat peacock. Thanks
Another great fly pattern!! Should be good for trout and panfish!!
I expect great things from this fly. Thanks
Really nice bug thanks
Nice one thanks
Thanks and Merry Christmas
Now that is a festive attractor. Be blessed. My friend.
Joe, hope you had a good Christmas. Thanks
Very nice. Should fine a place in your favorite fly box. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, I think its a cool looking fly. Thanks
Wow, this was a nice little cuty! Lovely❤. Well done.
Thank You for all the interesting flies and fishing videos. My Grandkids and I enjoy tying and fishing the Bluegill patterns. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !!! Take Care
Thanks for watching. I agree, tying and fishing for Bluegill is great fun.
Another great video, bluegill is my main specie I fish for. Keep the. Coming!!
@@bradleyflood-i8c Yea, I love bluegill. They fight great and taste great too. Thanks
Yes Robert, That does look "killer". Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thanks, Merry Christmas to you too.
I think you are right. That looks killer. When you started the weave it started to look like a meal worm. I know you have used them and i have caught a lot of big bluegills on them. Have you ever tied one? Be blessed. My friend.
I've tied some grubs, not necessarily a meal worm. I agree this one kinda looks like one. thanks
Looks like fun, thanks
Yea, I love tying new flies. Thanks
Nice fly Robert I better attempt this one notice I said attempt thanks for sharing
Its a little tricky. Use the nano silk, it makes it easier. Thanks
After watching you tie that fly i realized what it takes to tie flies. Commitment, patience and alot of love. I believe that is why you are able to tie such great flies. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, patience is the key. Usually it takes two or three tries before you can get it close. Thanks.
Hope it works for you. Even though bluegill don't have teeth. I still believe they are related to piranhas. They can tear up good flies and lures up quick. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, for some reason bluegill will tear up flies. Since this is one of my favorites, I really wanted it to hold up. Thanks
Awesome fly. Dom't know that it will surpass the "Best Bluegill Ever" but it may very well come close, . Thank you for this one.
I have high hopes for it. Can't say they won't see it. Thanks
I believe that one will be a go-to to see what is active. Hope you made several. I forgot you asked about water works lake here in moberly. I don't know much about it. You really have to fish it with a boat. I don't have one. Bit from what I hear talking to guys when I'm fishing. It is pretty good also. It doesn't get as much pressure since you have to boat fish it. You and your family have a wonderful holiday season. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, just another experimental fly. Thanks for the info on Water Works lake. When the weather warms up, I put my john boat on it and see what happens. Thanks
Hey Robert nice bluegill bug is that an emerger curved shank hook size 10
Its a size 14 nymph hook, just slightly curved. Thanks
Nice looking fly, I have tried doing a size 20, comes out pretty ugly, need more practice for sure.
Year 20 or less can be a challenge. Best to just go real slow. Thanks
Thank you sir for the info. Very helpful
Your welcome, Thanks
Robert what type of fly would you use as the first fly with this midge or does it matter
Usually cant go wrong with a Caddis.
Robert , do you recommend this fly over the Noir fly
The Brooks Sprout fly is smaller (size 20), the Noir fly is a size 16. Depends on what is hatching. Mabey trail the Brooks behind the Noir, then you got all sizes covered. Thanks
Now if that doesn't get torn up. The fish were not hungry that day. Also that white post makes a great indicator. I know i would need it. Great tie. Be blessed. My friend.
Yea, If the darn rivers ever go down, we might find out if it works.
Nice job Robert , I just got some whiting dry fly hackle now I have a good pattern to use it on
@@scottshepley7619 Love it when I get some new hackles. Thanks
Thanks for the info. I'm sure your community appreciates it. It is always good to go over things even if you know it. As we get older, we tend to forget. We have a lot to remember. Be blessed. My friend.
Hope it helps someone. You never know. Thanks
Thanks for the obvious, just kidding, nice video, helped me out. Thanks.
Glad it may have helped. Thanks
Another wonderful fly. It is a miracle that the trout have not got with the squirrels to stand as look outs to let them know when you show up with those great flies to fish. Be blessed. My friend.
The trout have the advantage. I'm too old to bend over and crawl up to a hole, they always see me first. Thanks
I like seeing you challenging yourself. You keep going smaller. That was a great fly. I'm sure the fish will love it also. Be blessed. My friend.
Thanks Joe, I'm gonna upload a couple more small midges, then go to something else.
Nice nymph Robert black and yellow have produced well for me at the Missouri trout parks
Thanks, Yea I think it will work.
