Back to Brooklyn - Andrew Ripp (cover) by Alex Sutherland
When I hear this song, it brings me back to the Caverns in Pelham TN back during Covid. We all had been cooped up forever and concerts were just starting up again. Andrew busted this one out during the opening set before Needtobreathe and it felt like the world was beginning to heal.
I’ll always remember that. This song is special to me because of that!

This is a song from one of my favorite albums of all time. Falling Up really changed up their sound on this record and it was great. I can listen to Midnight on Earthship from front to back with no skips. My dad was one of the biggest John Prine fans. Almost a year after my dad passed, Tommy Prine released this song where the final verse and chorus is about his dad. It always makes me think about mine whenever I hear it. Aaron Clafton is an up and comer in the Nashville country music scene from northern MN. When this song came out years ago, my first thought was “this should be on the radio.” Not sure if it ever got play, but if not, that is a travesty. Yeah, this is my dad’s favorite Relient K song and this has helped me learn it better. Right now I’m playing with the capo on the fourth fret. I’m playing the chords Am, F, C, and G. But G doesn’t sound right so idk what to do.

I sometimes play things the way I want rather than the way they are supposed to be played. For years I covered this song in a high school band and we used all power chords. This cover I’m certain I had the capo at 4 and just never lifted the pointer finger off the first fret on the B string.

The pattern changes a bit. If you watch any ot my other videos, I’m kind of a one trick pony with my sound. I do down strokes with my thumb and up with my pointer finger in the softer parts and both with my pointer finger in The chorus. In general, any longer note or note on beat or and is a down stroke. The off beat strokes (e or a of a 1 e and a beat) are typically an up stroke with me.
