Amazing performance from any angle. Dylan adapted his music to become new wave. Also, the 3 other musicians are great. The fact that the harmonica was in the wrong key added a mystical quality........off the charts a great event.

Saw Fagan, McDonald and Boz Scaggs, "Boy's of Summer" : Santa Barbara County Bowl a few years back... like this, an incredible melding of voices, lyrics and instruments ! Thank you for the music !

I don’t know if it’s still on RUclips, but a while back the roadie who was responsible for the harmonica incident here showed up in the comments section and explained how and why the whole thing happened: apparently this performance of Jokerman was actually unplanned somewhat, and the band was only going to do the first two songs. He had prepared the harmonica in the minor key for Licence to Kill, and the handoff to Bob went flawlessly there. Then Dave asked them to stick around and do one more song, and they did this amazing version of Jokerman - which required a harmonica in a major key of course, and I think he did prepare for it but somehow there had been a mix-up and the wrong one was there so…. This happened! I think that was the gist.

I like Michael, but his groove is so wrong for this song. If Donald and Walter had wanted it this way, they'd have done it themselves. They didn't. I usually forward SD vids. Not this one.

One of the best live Dylan performances EVER! He was energized, and adapted to a local band, with limited rehearsal , who played punk music, and just winged it, even out of his element ! Because of those circumstances , that's what made this performance legendary! Including the imperfections such as the wrong key harmonica, and the band just keeps 'Pluggin' away.. see what I did there ;-)

I like the way that half-way through the band wonder what on earth is going on but still keep on going anyways.😂 Fake it till you make it, and its all good in the end.

I read that Charles Icarus Johnson quit music and went into a non musical career. If true, that's mad. He is one of the best on that instrument.

If you know the original, this is hard to listen to. The Dan are best in studio. McDonald's voice misses the special Donald Fagan style.

Charles 'Icarus" Johnson electric guitar, played many years with the George Duke Band. I saw him on tour in 75. Best chowder I ever seen. Very fast in person. Kudos for this video. It's rare to not see Stanley in his own video.
