The Tokina 28-70, what is the exact product name? Is it the ATX Pro version? I was originally going to purchase the original Canon 24-70 2.8, as that lens has zero focus breathing, but parfocality is a really great thing and the canon is still about a thousand AUD so if it's cheaper than that that would fantastic.

Nice points! I also have the Varicam LT and it's a beast of a camera. To complement the Varicam I have an EVA1, a very good match, which you can buy second hand dirt cheap.

im between the xt and the vari 35 and the raptor they almost all in the same price range i just know that arri and red name ring bells i cant lie though if im being personal the vari is prolly the most slept on out there

As much as I respect your purchase and congrats for thinking out of the box...don't slander the URSA MIni Pro line of cameras especially the G2 and 12K lol. You get basically everything with them. - full metal build - swappable mounts - XLRs - built in NDs - multiple media recording options - beautiful sensors - High resolution with high frame rates - all you really need is a top/side handle, battery and lens and you're good the list goes on... The other cameras you mentioned I can agree with...but the URSA line is truly in a different category.

I enjoyed your comparison. Man, I am leaning even more to the Varicam. I am hesitant because of the more recent cinema cameras out in 2024 (afraid if being outdated). But getting a used Varicam may give more bang for its bucks.

There are literally zero recent videos showing this cameras sensor thanks 🙏🏿 I’m looking into making a sony E mount adapter for the varicam just couldn’t find a good close up video showing the space between the sensor and the threaded base. It certainly looks possible.

if panasonic apply the real varicam Look in lumix series, they will destroy the market. i purchase the lumix S1 from canon and sony user, and im very impressive about build quality, it's gun machine, even the camera drop in the ground it remain intact. codec are solid, open gate, good strong screen, the only issu i have sometime with that camera is consistancy of black skintones. The skintome sometimes are more yellow, when the light is not controled, the skintones becomes totally poor. and for that reason using this camera for run and gun is complicated. that is where canon win all of them. If panasoni made a new square boddy like pyxis with the real color of varicam,Fire. or Lumix body wiht that color profile.

Camera performance is not based on age, only uneducated or unskilled 'professionals' would buy a camera base on its age. We just upgraded to EVA1 about a Year ago and the quality I get from this is astounding. Like yourself, I am also a Panasonic guy since 2006. We also have Varicam 35 and Varicam LT in our possession but they are for sale. If we haven't gone for the EVA1 I would have gone for the Varicam.

I will likely buy the 21mm to go with my slr magic hyperprime set.

You are comparing a camera for 20.000 $ (Varicam LT) with a camera for 6.000 $ (Sony FX6).

The Varicam LT is an amazing camera. For a long time whenever Panasonic introduced a new camera they would say "it has the Varicam look..." because the Varicam/Varicam LT look is so good. It is one of two cameras I regret ever selling. However, yes, if you want to do any type of handheld shooting, it is way too heavy. Even with an Easyrig, it gets heavy right away. If I had to do it all again, I would not fall for the trap of getting an external recorder to record raw, the internal 4K 4:22 10-bit codec looks amazing and you can eliminate the weight of an external monitor. The other problem today is lack of autofocus if you need to shoot handheld. Other than that, it is a really good choice. Not too many cameras can match its dynamic range.

As a Komodo, S5iiX, Pocket6K owner I completely agree. I'm on the verge of picking up the LT.
