✨MY JOURNEY✨
I learned to knit before I became a mom, and began selling knitted accessories. Now I'm a mom of 4 who passed down knitting to my children, and we bond over sheep and all things woolly...and I started helping others do the same!
Since then, I've helped the most amazing mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, & more fall in love with knitting and pass it down to the children in their lives.
I'm incredibly passionate about sharing tips on knitting, crocheting, and all things woolly to help you create lovely and bonding moments with your family and community. Thanks for being a part of this amazing, creative community!

Close a gap at the heel turn with a SSK (Sock knitting heel flap tutorial)
Просмотров 288Месяц назад
To "ssk and knit the gap" in sock knitting means to close a gap at the heel turn by performing a "slip, slip, knit" (ssk) decrease on the last stitch before the gap, essentially knitting the two slipped stitches together to create a smooth transition and eliminate any visible holes; you essentially "knit the gap closed" using the ssk technique. Thank you for this...I will be watching your videos and knitting along with you.
Say, would you mind a recommendation? As someone who LOVES a dark, sweet cup of hot chocolate, I have to recommend Drost-brand cocoa powder, which has a much richer and more chocolatey flavor than other brands. It's delicious!
I needed this! My morning sickness is terrible and I haven’t had the energy to do anything creative for a couple months now . I can’t lift anything heavy but as soon as my hubby can get my wool bin out for me then I’m gonna cast on your cabin socks!!!! I also want to make a cosy shawl that can double as a “keep my baby warm” shawl lol ❤❤❤❤ Thank you for the video!!! And the inspiration!
The shawl is BEAUTIFUL! That green is lovely. Makes me think of evergreen trees which I love! The mittens are turning out wonderfully! You make me want to start knitting socks again! I would love to see how you use your little gadget to mend the socks, if that’s something you wanted to do Merry Christmas ❤❤❤❤
Thank you! I'm obsessed with this green yarn. You should knit socks, wooly winter toes are calling your name!
@ as soon as I get a free moment I want to sit and watch your cabin socks video! I’m pregnant with my fourth and my nausea is horrendous but you have inspired me to get back to knitting. Things have been so hectic I haven’t crafted at all ❤️
Love the shawl. Looks perfect on you, color & everything. You're really good at your craft & I love how your teaching your daughters to knit.
Thank you! I'm very happy to share my love of knitting with my daughters!
I can’t wait to sit and relax and watch this❤
Sounds like the coziest Friday night!
I went to the knit shop in Bailey’s Harbor and just finished two projects: a cardigan knit with The Fibre co.’s Aranmore light in blue tweed; and a vest for my husband in Malabrigo Rios also in blue. I really love that shop and can’t wait to go back to Door asap (even in winter if the shop is open). Love your podcast.
@recusa6519 I bet that Aranmore Light feels so cozy! I love Door Co, and the yarn shop! 💛🔥
💝
Very nice cozy episode, thank you very much. Looking forward to a new one! 🤎
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
it's time for a knitting year in review! while I wasn't super consistent with sharing my knits and yarns online this year, the cozy knitting was in full force! Here is a look back at my favorite knitting patterns, yarn, tools, plus bonus favorite podcasts, RUclips channels, and audiobooks I watched/listened to while knitting. What are some of your 2024 knitting favorites?
You are the best teacher. Please can you do more tutorials 🙏
🎄Quick & easy knitting projects, for a beginner like me, to give as Christmas Gifts too!! 🎁✨️
Wow! Great Idea! :) I never thought to do this hack, to wind up my hanked yarn. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful knitting knowledge for all of us to learn from! 🩷 I Love your Tip!🧦🧣🥢 Thank~you! 🤗
Are you a Christmas gift knitter? Tell me what you're most excited to knit below!
Knitting is bonding. Memories forever! 😊
It bonds many generations together 🥰💕
My mom was an avid crocheter and tried to teach me to crochet when I was about 8. Growing with frustration, I quit after a few hours and just wanted to watch something on TV. She showed me again when I was about 11. I did much better then my first attempt a few years prior. I would not pick up another hook until I was 21 and then decided I wanted to learn to knit and haven't looked back since. I agree that knitting should not die along with other valuable needlework hobbies (I can also tat and nalbinding). I would love to see all needlework thrive for future generations to enjoy!
That's such a great story of persistence without the pressure to do it now and do it right by your mom!
@@ThisYellowFarmhouse Exactly! My mom not forcing it on me is probably why I love these needlework hobbies as much as I do! Now in my 30s, it's funny when I hear people woo and awww about what I am doing and hearing "I could never do that." I am more than happy to teach others if they are willing to learn!
Thank you for your description of “sock” yarn. I know how to make socks now, but I would have loved to have it explained like this back then. I know how much this will mean to someone who is starting out! Btw..I LOVE your teaching kids to knit series. I intend to use it for my 5yo granddaughter.
Thank you! I'm hopeful that I can be helpful in sharing things for all ages of knitters, and not just more noise!
i just don't have the patience for socks, sorry world
Try worsted weight socks!!
I’m now in my 60s I learnt in primary school from the age of 7 to 11. We went twice a week to needlework. Half the year was spent knitting dolls clothes, a tea cosy , mittens and a glove puppet were the projects for p4 5 6 and 7. The sewing was cross stitch or embroidery on felt. For years I didn’t craft but when the season was right I had the basic skill to get me started. I’ve run knitting groups in my last church and at an honesty box cafe. I now attend one at my present church. I’ve taught both adults and young people to knit and they now knit garments for their own children. It’s a lovely way to relax and distress
This makes me so happy, what a blessing you've been to your community! And what a great childhood you've had and have helped share with others 💕
I'm a self-taught knitter via RUclips.
That's so awesome, there is a lot of great learning to knit resources! I pray more people get that same desire to learn to knit 💛
Yes I’ve had this happen and it’s so annoying!!! This is a really good close up of what to do!🖤
Thank you! Happy knitting 💕💛
Thank you! That was very helpful for me as a beginner knitter! By the way, I Love your Channel! So Calm, Relaxing and Peaceful to watch! Your such a nice and kind person.Thank you for your videos! Learning alot from you! God Bless!!
This is so sweet of you, thank you! And I'm very excited for your knitting beginning! 💛
Sewing too ...
Yes! That's my newest hobby, but I'm a slow learner with the machine. My girls picked it up faster than me!
I like the simple explanation. Now I want to see the purl stitch.
Thank you! I'll work on those videos
More people should learn to knit. Nothing beats hand knitted pieces. It is such a destresser too. People seem to be losing self creativity. We used to go to tons of craft shows now there's hardly anything out there. Everything comes from China. We grew up w/ 4,500 square feet of garden. We supplied our own food. I am shocked how many people don't even know how to plant, anything.
I agree! Besides being useful, these things are just plain fun!
It’s so nice to show examples as you speak.
I am on the last part of a variation of your sock. I started toe up since I am good at really nice rounded toes this way. I am never happy with how my toe winds up from doing cuff down patterns just not good at it I guess. I used two sets of the cables on the front with a nice border made of four pearled stitches on either side of the basic pattern. Then I used the knit stitch after that and on the back. So far very easy and fun to do! Thank you so much for actually showing the work on the cables...others make this very confusing.. They do a single cable round and tell you to do 5 or 6 more rounds but don't show it so if you don't see a patten below, you have to buy it. So great that you did this so well as a knit along and I can now incorporate this in other projects~
That's awesome, you're very talented to switch it up to toe up! And you're very welcome for sharing it! 💕
@@ThisYellowFarmhouse Thank you so much. I finished them and they came out great. Then I started making a few pair of stranded knit socks...those are amazing to do and fun for the holidays. I make up my own patterns but didn't know how to cable knit til I saw your channel. So well done!
These are cute. I like and have made several patterns from Lisa Chemery aka Frogginette Knitting. Very timeless pieces.
I just looked her up, very cute knits too! Thank you for the recommendation 💛💕
Another idea are dresses! A short sleeve top connected to a skirt is quite stylish and can be worn several different ways if the skirt part is nice and long - either maxi or midi for more styling options
That's a great idea! I think they can also be easier to wear an extra season if they're wearing leggings underneath. It gets more time out of the wear! I love the Dandelion Dress. Thanks for the suggestion 💕
So happy we live where there is fall! I just saw a picture of my little granddaughter with her hands tucked up her sleeve so I’d say I’ll be knitting mittens and hats. Hope you continue to enjoy your cozy knitting.🧶🍂🍁🍃🫖☕
Aww that's a great fall knitting project with a great purpose! I hope she loves them! 💛
Is there a skill or handicraft you wish you had been taught growing up? I was always creative as a child with scrapbooking, writing, and sewing, but it wasn't something that was mixed into school and learning, and eventually I lost the motivation and time to continue. I look back on it now with fresh eyes (don't we always!) and plan to teach my kids what education means in a totally different, more well-rounded way than I was taught.
@@ThisYellowFarmhouse honestly encouraging play or hands on with learning. We all learn differently and encouraging kids to show growth and focus in some areas isn't bad. I was so thankful for my 5th grade teacher who also was very creative, focused a lot of opportunities for students to express it more than any other school instructor in my educational career. I think cooking skills and basic sewing skills in younger grades can be a great learning opportunity I wish I had more of . I did cooking, crochet and cross stitching, painting but would have loved knitting always wanted more. Math & reading can be fun, in kindergarten my teacher read us the ginger man story and we made the dough, kneaded it, and baked it then he ran away, each day a new adventure till we found him and ate him lol - so reading can be fun, include math and a science lesson into it too. I had these skills as a kid, enjoyed being in the kitchen but being hands on with learning can be so impacting vs focus on books 📚. I know I would have benefitted from it more but I enjoy the arts all forms
@@yarn_oops I love those little moments of handicrafts and hands on learning that you remember, like cross stitching and kneading dough! I had one teacher in 5th grade teach us to weave on a loom, and we only did it during read aloud time. I still think about that today!
What do your kids and grandkids really enjoy reading? Mine are so interested in adventures lately!
Another great episode and encouraging. Showing how versatile being creative can be beneficial and opportunities to both learn with and learn from. I think that is a BIG difference that the educational system is missing, other countries and cultures offer creative courses into the education as a core curriculum even if for a short period of time but it is implemented more. I'm glad I had music classes and options for band, choir & orchestra but nothing on a life skill till one short lesson of sewing in home ec within Jr. High. Make a pillow class. Great presentation and support of life skills, nurture learning and reflection of a child's interest to make it relatable as a craft or gifting opportunity. You did a great job presenting and being well rounded/versatile to encourage creativity in & with learning.
Thank you for your encouragement! I'm glad you had music classes that were well taught growing up. I took a class on fashion design once in high school and couldn't tell you how to thread a sewing machine now! The class was just designed to pass tests, not to remember and use a life skill, or to encourage growth in learning more about sewing, which is so sad!
That's a great way to teach them to cast on! I love it! Do you have tricks like this for when they have already cast on and they're working back and forth on their rows? My daughter was struggling to remember where to put her needle.
Love this episode. It’s just in time for Christmas shopping. Thank your children for their reviews.🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶💕
You're very welcome! We had a lot of fun narrating and rating them all!
This such a great episode I think many will appreciate esp for parents and finding the right books for kids in a craft genre that is supportive and not forced. Can also provide or stir excitement for being creative or offer understanding as to why others enjoy it, also important. Thanks for sharing these books and your time with us.😊
I love that you describe it as supportive and not forced. That's the beauty of reading aloud together, it naturally sparks conversations and interest (or not, sometimes!) instead of sitting them down with yarn and needles and announcing they have to learn! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I love Ned the thumb!! ❤😂
Haha thanks! It really sticks with them 🙃
Blessings Queen Beautiful family 💕💕💕💕💕
Thank you 💕
Omg I love it!❤❤❤
Thanks!
Hi Dana. Its Caroline. I just wanted to say. The harry potter books are not good for children. Too dark side I heard you mention you are a church going person. Please remember garbage in garbage out. Take care and God bless you and your precious family. 🙂
Thank you for sharing how you feel 💕 we're staying away from the movies and beyond book 2 as they progressively get darker for now. I read them in high school and loved them, but was older and felt better prepared to read them for what they are and aren't. I don't think Harry Potter is a children's book beyond the first book
Dayna, this is wonderful! I have three kids and I homeschool. I was one of the lucky ones as my mother knits, crochets, sews and beyond and I learned from her. Both of my older kids (youngest is too young for anything yet) love to sew. My daughter can crochet now but my son chose knitting as his preferred craft. In fact he was knitting today because he wants to make our kitties a blanket lol Such a wonderful idea and I’m definitely subscribing ❤❤❤
That's amazing, I love that you had someone to learn from! Aww kitty blankets are a perfect knitting project 💛💛
@@ThisYellowFarmhouse I’m blessed . And my kids are very close to my mom
I love that you are doing this! I am so hopeful that knitting, and all needle-fiber crafts, will not fade away. I knit, crochet and cross stitch. I homeschool my youngest who just turned 16. Thankfully she was very eager to learn all of those around age 12 & 13. She is not currently working on any projects and I half expected that with her current age. I’m thankful she has the skills and know she will return to her WIPs at some point.
Aww I love that, thanks for sharing with me! I think it's great that she set a good foundation and learned to love fiber arts, which she can come back to!
So good to have a knitting visit with you. I grabbed the sock I'm working on and enjoyed your company. It always feels like having coffee with a friend. Thank you!
Thank you! You too! 😊
The Mitford series is my all time favorite comfort read. I love those people, they have become "real" to me over the years. If you have access to the audio version, the narrator for most of the series. John Mc Donough (sp?) Has the most soothing voice which just makes Jan's wonderful stories even richer.. You didn't ask but I'm thinking frog your woodsy sock and use the yarn for a non-sock project or donate it. If it is splitting as you knit. it probably won't hold up to the wear and tear of being a sock. Socks have a lot of time invested in each one so use the yarn that'll hold up to wear. Enjoy your summer and your Shawltember to come.
I'll look for the audio version! I found this one at our library book sale but I think listening to the next one would be lovely. Thank you for the advice on the sock! I agree, I can knit all wool cabin socks but I think these ones will get more wear and tear in and out of shoes. Time to frog and cast on something more joyful!
I'm glad that your kiddos love Harry Potter. That was (still is) one of my favorite book series ever!! I don't think that I have finished any other book form the Chronicles of Narnia either. I would love to read those books at some point, but it has been so long since I have heard anyone talk about them
It's one of my favorite series, too! I remember the days of midnight book releases at the book shop! And it seems autumn is a great time to start re-reading them. Maybe January is a good Narnia month, you should read it again!
Lovely to see you back Dana. Love all the socks you showed And yes I too love full shawls As for the crochet. I’m a traditional person I guess and would want to stray from the “normal colors” BUT I think you could absolutely make little tea cups for the kids. And muffins/cupcakes. I would think about what “flavor” you could pass off for with each color. Like a pink can be a sorta strawberry cream flavor. Just play and have fun!
Great idea! I'll pick and choose what can be crocheted in pastels and still be realistic. I'm more traditional in my colors usually, red and green Christmas and all!
@@ThisYellowFarmhouse yes! The cosy Christmas you get with reds and greens just fills my heart with such joy!
Dana. It’s so good to see you back! I was quietly suggesting The Lion,The Witch and the Wardrobe and then you said it. 😊 It’s a very special time of life reading to your children. Enjoy every minute! ❤️
We love reading aloud together! And that's a very fun adventurous one!
Missed ya, so thrilled to see ya again 😊
I'm happy I could knit with you!!
I hope knitting together starts your weekend off well! 💛
