This is actually true. Purposefully Blade on blade is discouraged but it can happen. There are 3 interactions of a weapon, weapon to weapon, weapon to the space you wish to occupy or prohibit your opponent to occupy and weapon to body. So in ptk, our weapon of choice is the ginunting. There is approximately 3-6 inches of blade on the back end of tip. That is often used. Especially in panastas. abaniko is more the tip and flat of the blade in our system. Swinging hard does not equate to skill all the time. We are swordsmen. If your blade is sharp, not much force will be needed. Skill of footwork and tactics will prevail. Thanks for your participation! Very true. It is sword fighting in general. But what i am trying to stress here is what it is not. Too many fma videos demonstrate complete lack of legitimate sword fighting skills. Thanks for your support and watching!

@@edgedcombatives Yeah I agree. When many spar they are lunky or do not use the 5 attacks much, or really any real grace. It's awkward. Tim Wade has some good teachings. What I like about PTK is it is about real world fighting and when we spar we don't have winners or losers, or keep track of points. We enjoy enjoy the practice fighting and getting capable.

@@edgedcombatives Oh come on. Sitting in a coffee shop patio on a main downtown street is "wrong place?" Standing at the bus stop heading home from the movies? ON THE BUS? This situational awareness thing just means you don't have any answers. It is not "what-iffing;" those are the FACTS. I didn't say "what if;" I said WHAT ABOUT '85% of knife attacks come from behind or the side with no warning." This is a fact from data gathered from over 600 knife attacks. Situational awareness is one thing; having eyes in the back of your head when you are having a cuppa with your wife and toddler or just walking down the street in the business district in the middle of the day is another thing. I have a legitimate question and you have brushed it off (thanks for the insult) because you have no answers and you can't afford to tell your students that they ill be stabbed in the back before they can use your Bullshiho. All you knife "experts" say the same thing because you have no answer.

@@inspectator9384 actually the lowline thrust or highline are the most common knife attacks. Statistically speaking. A knife jab or straight punch (bladed) are not as common. He only stops because it must be met with equal or greater force…ahead of timing. These are very fundamental applications. A “knife fighter” actually moves very differently or has already adapted to common “defenses”. A sword or machete are better suited for a slashing than a low line thrust. The knife is more a thrusting tool for damage. But in all honesty, the only real way to counter a knife is with equal or superior weaponry. I encourage and welcome these discussions as usually a few minutes video often only can give partial information of a complete system or technique set. Take down is not difficult which is a transition from ptk to bjj (self defense 101). Then while on the ground the technique was not complex which is what you want.

You are correct. There really is no defense against a skilled knife fighter. But statistics prove very seldomly is a knife attacker skilled. The safest “defense” is attacking with your own blade or superior weaponry. Run if at all possible. Thanks for commenting!
