Dakota Timber Co. manufactures high-quality, American made wood products with an emphasis on sustainability and low impact production. All of our lumber products are sourced locally from retired buildings and urban tree removals. By eliminating the middleman and shopping directly with us, our customers are able to get the best price on high-quality lumber materials. We provide products to customers across the country and ship nationwide.
How do we turn these old beams into fireplace mantels?
Follow along as we show you the main steps of our fireplace mantel manufacturing process! All of our mantels are made right here in the USA.
1. Unload beams (most of our reclaimed beams come from old agriculture buildings and barns from the upper Midwest.)
2. Sort and load beams into the kiln
3. De-nail each beam to make sure it's free of debris and metal
4. Head to the mill for rough-cut
5. Hand-sand
6. Bore mantel bracket holes for our floating bracket system
7. Finish (if clear coat or stain is requested)
8. Photograph each mantel individually
9. Upload listings to the website for sale!
10. Pack and ship with love and ship to our customers around the US.

Poor video, doesn't show what you're doing, plastic (the type you used) fasteners in dry wall suck, should be outlaw. The overall concept it's fine.
Hey there! This was an video to show an optional install if someone doesn't have a stud. We recommend that our shelf kits be installed into a stud (or two). Our kits come with our floating bracket hardware with instructions. Thanks for following along!

What if my width is not exactly the same as your shelves? Can they be cut down to fit my required width?
Hey Jeff - best to email us if you have a custom request. But if you are able to trim yourself, yes, you can! Just keep in mind that our shortest bracket is 26" so if you plan on using the bracket you would want to keep it over 26".

You assume that studs are just going to line up in your videos. Much more likely is that toggle bolts will have to be used
Hello Brian, our shelf brackets have holes all along both top and bottom of the bracket, so it gives you the flexibility to place the screw in any of the holes to hit a stud. With our 26" and 40" brackets, you should be able to hit two stud. If you are needing our shorter 20" brackets, and perhaps you won't hit 2 studs, we do include some drywall anchors for you.
