SQUAREJIG MAKES THE FASTEST CUTTING CHAIN
Просмотров 10 тыс.Год назад
The Squarejig adds the square grinding feature to a standard round grinder with no modifications to the grinder. It simply clamps into place and is ready to grind chain. Square ground chain is one of the oldest methods of sharpening a chainsaw chain, yet it is still the fastest cutting chain to date.

Would this work on my Oregon grinder?
Did you ever figure out if this works on the other oregon grinders like the 620?
The hydraulic clamp was the only issue with the 620. The 520 works but I like the lighter springs on the Oregon 410 and Tecomec Jolly Evo.
@squarejig ah. The issue was probably that little raise to the chain it does right at the end. It's a little inconsistent.
Hey man not sure what’s up with your website! I’m interested in your product but the website keeps pulling error codes!
@callinbos5945 Hello, I checked the website on our end. Couldn't find any issues. You could try refreshing the the page and if it's still not working you can call in an order. Thank you. 206.850.2700 Have a great day.
What’s the retail on this item?
Currently they are $320 for the Squarejig and $220 for the Tecomec Jolly Evo Grinder.
Where can I buy one of these square cutting jigs?
SQUAREJIG.COM
Has anyone tried this thing yet? My concern is that if you're always lining up by putting the Apex in between the rivets, isn't it going to get way off by the time your chain starts to get used up?
Is it compatible with 520 or 511 grinder?
problem is cutter height will shrink
Can't wait to get this for my Oregon 410-120 bench grinder , what size jig should I get for chainsaw chain grinder ?
Hi Bryan, the 45 degree jig is our number one seller. We're working hard to make more. Should be back soon.
Thanks for the info
Thanks for sharing
Nice Video Greetings from Germany Peter ruclips.net/video/PaEE5sKXGaE/видео.htmlsi=90LJn2stGsx3uKNr Germany
Got the tooth a bit hot
No purchase link??
Thank you, i have the grinder but didn't know i could do it with it as well. No more filling for me.
Can wheel with a flat face. Best way to go.
CBN wheel. Stupid phone.
Nice! If I get a Jolly Evo I'll get your fixture! I have a cheapo grinder right now, most likely I'll be making my own setup out of that, I'm a fiddler. Btw, one way to get that round sideplate flat without grinding for eons per tooth to get it straight up & down: Grab a raker file and file sideplate flat from inside of the cutter tooth and out (you're just looking to hog the material out) 😊
Definitely, the jigs work really well. This video was made before I figured out how fast the cbn cuts. The pink wheels are not really for heavily transforming the tooth. Kind of figured that out later. The vitrified wheel and the CBN are much faster.
Very nice explanation / visualization I would say too that a 35-40° top plate angle is very fast cutting but dulls very quickly especially in harder woods, then there's also the down-angle to consider as well, a shallower (more pointed) angle is again faster yet quicker dulling in round-ground chain, this is sometimes mentioned as degrees of down-angle being typically expressed as 50-60° on your typical Oregon grinders I do believe.. but its more complicated than just that and whole books could be written on the subject of chainsaw tooth angles. Very good video. I'm hoping that you'll soon get more of the square-jig CBN wheels back in along with the 40deg .050 holders
Hi Josh thank you. Books could definitely be written about saw chain. It's pretty amazing stuff. CBN wheels are on the way. 40 degree holders are on hold right now until we get some more steel in. Might be a few weeks.
Awesome concept man. I’ve been playing with my simington and getting the gullets with my stihl usg. I’d love to get my brother set up with a square grinder but he doesn’t want to sped 2 grand on the project. With this a guy could square grind for a lot less I expect?
Thanks. I've used the USG and the Simington. They're good quality machines. It's too bad Silvey went out of business. Those are some of good machines too. But yes, the Squarejig setup is quite a bit less and can square grind chain just as good as any.
Youre applying the wheel too long. Aren't you generating exess heat? I found this warps the shape of the tooth.
I try to use a quick tapping to mitigate heat. You're right though. The teeth do soak up a lot of heat. The coarse wheels cut faster and are more forgiving with heat.
Does the squarejig work with the oregon 410-230? I think the 120/230 refers to operating voltage which is 230 in the uk but I’m not 100% sure
Exactly. 120 is the voltage. The 410-230 is the EU version. Same grinder with 230v motor/plug
Gonna be trying this for sure
Is the second hash not 10* top plate? You say it's 20*
The 10 degree setting on the dial does not translate exactly to the same angle when the Squarejig is attached. I think it's about 20. It's actually 17 degrees. Just checked. Just past the 2nd notch is 20 degrees with the Oregon 410-120. This may be different with other grinders.
@@squarejig thank you
When will this be available?
Hi John, we just received a shipment but have sold out again. Should be back in stock in a couple of weeks.
Will this work with a tecomec super jolly?
Hi Robert, the hydraulic clamp on the super jolly I don't think allows the Squarejig to stay held in place. The Tecomec Jolly Evo works great though.
@@squarejig ok I do have a Oregon 511a I think that similar if I’m not mistaken. I did look on the website any idea when the products will be off back order?
@@Robert-in5oq I have not tested the 511a grinder. The jigs should be back in stock in a couple weeks.
i think square grinding is hands down the fastest way to cut ,but i checked this square jig out and does it really need to cost even half of that. Lets be real if it came with the grinder then yes that would be reasonable but im sorry a small triangular piece of metal does not cost anywhere near 320 dollars even if its precisely made by cnc there just no way to justify spending that much on something that probably only costs a few dollars to make.
Hi Dustin, This is precision made with domestic stainless and cnc machining in the USA. It does cost a lot to make. Would you be interested in a non stainless version at a lower price?
@@squarejigI'd be interested in one made from even something like Mild Steel or aluminum or something as long as it's still solid and accurate if it'd reduce the price 40-50% I understand there's a TON of overhead and costs in a project like this especially starting out but I'd bet that you'd probably triple sales with a lower cost jig. It's hard for many lower-income folks to justify spending more than it's costs for a grinder just to get a jig to achieve a better tooth shape. I'd bet that people would pretty much quit buying the current variety however
I built one out of 10 gauge sheet metal 4 in squair cut in half at a angle 2 bolts 2 nuts and 2 washers for in-between the triangle cut plates washers need to be a little thicker than your drive links
Yaaa make it half the cost but I stil want it to be accurate either buy a silvey or simington or this fellas American made jig to go along with a 400-500 dollar grinder and ur at about half the money of a square grinder machine so
That's an awesome jig! I have a simington grinder which can be really finicky. Advance for anyone who grinds chain. Use a blue/ceramic wheel and you won't take the temper out of your cutter😊
Right on, thanks Casey. Yeah, the Simington grinders are great. The blue wheels make a nice finish. I've heard the salmon colored wheels are good too but I haven't used one yet. My guess is they are a coarser wheel. The universal grinders have a bunch of different wheels and grit available as well. Anyway happy cutting my friend.
Where do you get your files? Are they double bevel?
I get them from Madsen's.
Quite a few options on eBay as well - I prefer Vallorbe - seem to be the smoothest cutting. Models 2279, 2276 or 2270.
実際に切るところは見せてくれないのか 残念
Square cutting is quick af!
It's definitely smooth and fast cutting.
You ruined the heat treat on the teeth. Good luck with that holding an edge.
Wann kommt das SQUAREJIG-KITS für das stihl usg
I think the USG will require modification for the Squarejig to work so it may take a while.
Gibt es bereits 😉

@ss229er7 We're sold out at the moment. There are more on the way.
Do you make them for .058 chain, i only see .050 and .063 on your site? Thanks!!
Hello, yes, the .063 jigs work with .058 chain.
How do you dress the wheel
I use a diamond file.
I like what I’m seeing here! 👍🏻. Good stuff & I’ll definitely be trying this out! Great video! Thank you!
Right on Kirk! Much appreciated thank you.
?Das ist die beste Idee 👌👍👍wo kann man das kaufen
Thanks! www.ketten-schaerfen.de for most of Europe and Squarejig.com for everywhere else.
does the gullet material need to be removed?
It likely makes hand filing easier and may prolong the life of the file to remove the gullet with a round file prior to square filing. However, I don't think it's required to remove gullet prior to hand filing. I like to leave at least 1/8th inch for chip flow on square ground chain or enough that it acts as a paddle to push chips to the bottom of the kerf. I think this helps push chips down to the bottom of the kerf so the rakers can do their job raking out the chips. If the gullet is completely removed chip flow may go toward the rivets and create more drag on the sides of the chain. However, if the gullets are never cut back they could become wider than the kerf and create more drag. This is why I think a happy medium is good. At least 1/8th and not too much that it is wider than the kerf.
300-400$ for the jig?
Hi Mathew, Yes the jigs are $320.
Just now seeing this. I’m one of those that file single cutters by hand, but from the top. I’ll try this technique👍🏻
Right on IndianaDoug! I'm always looking for new and better ways to sharpen chain. You have a pretty cool channel. I'm checking it out right now.
This will be a game changer👍👍👊

Looks like it does a real job
Thanks JK!

I would just like to say I enjoy my square jig very much and am wondering went the cbn wheel would be available
@@justinr6200 Hi Justin, great to hear. It may be a few months before we have them ready. I can let you know as soon as they are.
how do I set the depth of cut for the tooth the stop won't come out far enough?
Have you tried it in a USG yet?
Hi David, I did try one. I wish it did work. It requires modification to create consistency on left and right hand cutters.
How much does it cost and how do I buy one
They're currently $320 + shipping at Squarejig.com
i HAVE THE 45* jig. if I set the wheel at 85 in sted of 90 will that give me a 40* top plate?
Hi Donald, Yes it will cut right hand cutters to 40 degrees. But left hand cutters will be 50 degrees. Unless you have a grinder able to tilt to 95 degrees for right hand cutters. I think there is a Maxx grinder that tilts both directions. I haven't tested one though.
@squarejig I had a better idea , I have An angle cube (knife sharpening) I can set both sides at 40* by adjusting the base in the grinder clamp.
@@donaldobyrne8309 Yeah, that works too! Very cool.
