Salt and Vinegar: Rust Remover or Rust Igniter?
Although I have refurbished a couple hand planes before this is a first for me, I've never done a mostly voice-over video before.

Generations Woodcraft Introduction And Shop Tour
This guy is smart.
Well done. Exactly how it should be done effitiently.
Dovetail looks great and I think that is due to the proper preparation you put in before starting 😉
Looks nice
Thank you
Awesome, I'm just getting into woodworking, Well kinda I grew up in a custom cabinet shop and worked there. Till it shut down after the 2008 bubble But anyway, I just ran across your videos. Saw you haven't posted in almost a year. Made me sad, but then I saw this. back to happy lol
I like your 1, 2, 3 system. I'll keep that in mind since I'm in the middle of a shop redesign. Also that pegboard cabinet is a great idea! Like the fancy tool chests you see from Mike Pekovich etc but way simpler and more approachable!
Yes! Just keep being yourself... it's all we need and why we're still here.
Cant wait to chat again stay warm
Did you stop making content?
As of yesterday when I posted a short it had been 390 days. I’m starting a new video right now.
I'm so stoked you are coming back. I started woodworking a few years ago and I really like your channel. Can't wait to see you next vid.
I was just checking your channel last week wondering when your last video was and making sure I wasn’t missing anything. And don’t worry, I’m 362 days since my last video. Working on getting a new one published very soon! Let’s make 2025 a great one! 🎉
Good luck to you! I hope your videos take off.
Nice :) Welcome back... now, dont bring too much preasure on your self. Just do fun stuff and release vidz when you wants to.
Thanks for your candor and life experience tips.
Yes, I too needed to hear this, I was trapped in the constant relay out of my shop rather than making anything in it.
Hi, where did you get your shop lights? Amazon?
Hi, did you ever put together a video for the temperature shut off (which is what I assume blew) near the end of the video? I didn't see one when I tried to find it. Thinking of getting this, but if it doesn't shut off when it hits the temp, I might reconsider.
Just popping in to say i miss your channel.
Thanks for the explanation of the thought process you followed. I always enjoy looking at the shops created by others. Yours has been inspirational for me in my shop build. I subbed with the intention of following through on your possible changes in the last 2 years since this was published.
Thank you so much for this information. I have a shop similar to yours and I am trying to design mine for work flow. You have given me so much insight and inspiration.
I noticed. The words resonate but the projects are not there
It takes a beautiful person to say they're ugly
Really good advice 👍
Hey Jesse, just found your channel. Awesome videos. I’m just starting out woodcrafting. Looking to do crafts and maybe other small pieces. I too will have a small shop. I’m putting it together as we speak, so I really loved your tour. I especially liked your sentiments at the end. Heartfelt and sincere. Looking forward to building together. Thanks for the great tips, Bob
Title of this video should have been, "Don't Be Me!" 😉
That’s pretty much all my videos lol
I love the skill envy vs tool envy concept. Case in point for me was building shop cabinets requiring 3/4" dados and I don't have a table saw powerfully enough to run a dado stack. I don't have a router. I have a circular saw and a Kreg Rip cut. I set the rip cut to cut the width I needed then cleared the middle material. It took like 5x longer than if I had a dado stack but point is it worked! And the sense of accomplishment I can imagine is much greater! Where there's a will there's a way!
First time seeing your channel. It’s great buddy. I can’t wait to watch some more.
Thank you for this. The project anxiety and workspace organization and usage is a constant battle.
Been there! Paralyzed by possibility and production.
Just watched this again and appreciate the intent and context. Makes me rethink how I got projects done in the past and what I need to modify going forward.
Brilliant advice. Subscribed. 👍
Thank you
Hey, I just found your channel and I love it! But, I noticed you haven’t posted in nine months! Have you quit RUclips? I sure hope not!
Not giving up. Dealing with 💩 lol. I’ll be back as soon as I can.
Which cnc are you using?
X-Carve. Also have a Gloforge for smaller stuff.
hoping you haven't given up! looking for more!

Don’t be afraid to get started with projects. Wise advice indeed!
After much wasted time and effort, I've come to many of the conclusions that you have. For that reason, I will give serious consideration to the rest of the advice you've shared. I particularly like the points system for arranging your shop. Too often, I've arranged things based on where they fit, not on how often I'll need them. On a totally different, note, I really hope you find the time and motivation to return to posting regularly. Your authenticity and thoughtfulness shine through in your videos.
Thank you, I needed this.
Two tips for anybody who hates fractional math. First use millimeters when you can, and buy measuring tools that are in both inches and millimeters. Second get a foot/inch calculator app for your phone.
There is a lot of gold here. I am jammed into 16x20. I fully agree with putting things on wheels. Especially if your workflow is such that you do one type of operation fully and then move on to the next operation. But go the extra step and make storage for related accessories. My router table for example has storage for bits, the lift and collet wrenches, starting pin, lift inserts, feather boards. The miter station has storage for inserts, hand clamps, stop blocks, extra blades, extreme angle jig and its own shop vac.The other thing I would say is having a dedicated assembly area is helpful. It keeps the tools, glue and clamps off the table saw. I even have an area set aside for finishing. Nothing fancy just an old refrigerator box that I keep on the floor, a small old end table with a lazy Susan top and some homemade painters points. When I want to spray or paint I just unfold the box into a right angle, clamp that box side vertically, setup the table, paint points, or some coat hangers attached to the rafters and have at it.
Man do I wish I’d found your channel 5-6 months ago. Soooo many rabbit holes I fell into instead of just making things.
I love the idea about making your pegboard 3D -- that would just about double my pegboard space with not much extra depth required.
Great video! First time I have watched one of yours and won’t be the last! Love that you said to just build!!
Lmfao what is this copy and paste from someone else’s channel ?
Nah
Simplify your sentences, bud. You start saying something, pause for a parenthetical, or start over-emphasizing and a sentence ends up being a minute long and you don't actually say anything. "Before you start; before you do anything, I want to make absolutely sure so that you completely understand: You shouldn't start to do any of this until you've thought through exactly what you're going to do, whatever that ends up being when you actually get going." That's how you sound.
I think you are a strong person for coming on here explaining why you failed. I don't see it as failure but a learning experience. I found your channel because of your shop tour video as I am in the process of setting up a shop and also thought, hey maybe i should document this and post it on RUclips. This video has helped me decide not to do that as I don't think I would enjoy it as much having to deal with camera shots and worry about views and clicks, so thank you for that. Good luck in your future and will comeback every so often to see f you have other videos, as you and I are in a similar point in our lives.
My problem, such as it is since I currently don't have a working shop, I go on amazon and "window shop". At 48 years old I WANT an all Makita power tool det up with a decent Delta table saw and Grizzly 14" band saw....now, what do I NEED? Well....I'm not exactly a beginner, I did all that in school in shop classes, I was pretty good back then, but it has been 30 years. Since then I have done some stuff, but not much. That said, I do have SOME tools, alot got stolen in a move from Arizona to Ohio, but here I am basically starting over again. My amazon cart save for later is SO full of stuff. So...I just bought my first house, so there's the basics. My kids are grown but not married yet, so I want to make them furniture they'll need. However first I am gonna make my way to that level as I make smaller stuff first to knock alot of rust off. I forgot alot of what is actually a NEED instead of a WANT. I lost my dad in 2020 and my mom a year later. I feel ya brother.
You got the sub because of the shirt and hat Jesse lol. Loved the info, I got a small basement that i can work out of for now. I might do a 14X30 outside the walk out door to the basement later. The info kind of hit home a little too much too lol
great video, i'm upsizing to a similar size and appreciate the insights, especially around categorizing importance of what you need. plan on doing a lot of cleats to allow easier rearrangement as priority changes on what i am finding to be a 2 vs a 3/4 based on projects
Tool envy is very simple. A power tool is something that does a task for you more quickly and easily, not skillfully. You won't become a better or more skilled carpenter/woodworker by having more/better power tools.
All of my bench surfaces are at the same height as my bench saw and all on wheels 😊
