Allis Chalmers G Plowing
Recently fixed up a G plow for my G. I got the wheel, the coulter and the plow itself from three different people. Very happy to have it working after having nearly grinding off my own finger replacing a shaft on it (you can see the replacement chrome shaft on the front)

    Is this similar to a modern garden tractor? It seems like it.

      A few had hydraulic cylinders. Ran one as a kid with the mower shown in the video. Lever under the seat lifted the bar. Foot operated a tensioner so v belt pto drove the sickle bar. G parts like axle shafts were much more expensive than an 8N so we traded up to the Ford. G had a 4 speed trams with a really low creeper gear.

    I wonder how hard it is to find these implements?

    • @ProductionField
      @ProductionField 4 года назад

      I have been able to get the plow, sickle mower and cultivators for the front pretty easy. The front weight was harder, but the rear cultivators, and any seeders are very difficult to find

    This 10 horsepower tractor really was not designed to plow, it is a cultivating tractor. When it breaks you will miss it.

    • @ProductionField
      @ProductionField 7 лет назад

      People have used them for years for plowing, using the factory designed plow like I have. Haven't seen any break. Lots of front end parts out there to fix if it ever did.

      It was available from the factory with a 12" single bottom moldboard. Like the one in the video.

      Yeah it only had 10 hp but it was from a 4 cylinder is not like it's a single banger being asked to pull that.

      It was made by Allis Chalmers, many a man has tried to destroy it, and all have failed. A plow will never kill a G

    Awesome video. My grandfather bought the first G sold in my farming area back in 1948 or 49 I believe (article about my area: muckville.com/2013/11/30/national-geographic-november-1941story-on-the-historic-black-dirt-region-of-orange-county-new-york/) We own 3 and still use them to do our primary cultivating (pic taken a couple of days ago: twitter.com/ChrisPawelski/status/471481820920684545). Thanks for posting the video!

      They have them but other than being a fancy cultivator for stuff like greens they fall short in allot of areas seeing they're often priced at a Kubota Base L25 which will also cut hay but isn't as good at the cultivation.

    I kept checking kijiji (Canada's version of Craigslist) and grabbed the first one I saw come up once I had around 3000$. Expect to pay that for a good one, but have another 1 - 2 thousand for getting extra equipment from people online. I have quite a few resources for parts now.
