I'm slowly working my speed through scales beginning each practice session. Working at max 220 bpm right now but only up to about 200 bpm cleanly so far. I think when I can handle 230 or 240 bpm then I can revisit your Shine arrangement! :) @@CentralTendency

Are these transcriptions of solos from these songs that are more accurate? I haven't thought of a way to have communication outside of the comment section of videos which feels like 25-year old tech in a way!

Peter Gabriel - yes, I have to get that on my "to do" list! As to the sax solos, they are likely exactly what I find in a MIDI file, or what someone may have uploaded to MuseScore. There is one exception, though, and that is Two Suns in the Sunset. The music that I found had a great arrangement for the band - but it skipped the sax solo. I searched to see if anyone uploaded a PDF of just the solo and actually found it. I just re-entered those 8-10 measures or so (didn't take too long) and made one or two simple edits based on what I heard on the track. As for the range - yes, that is a bit of an issue for me. I try to keep everything below that E (three leger notes above the staff) but know I miss that every once in a while. I make the Bb below the staff the lowest, and try to make sure not to miss that (for both Bb and Eb scores). I'll endeavor to watch those high notes. I enjoy all feedback, so thank you!

You are bringing back the second half of my college years with those song names!

I try to make the "less important notes" about 20% smaller, maybe I could make it a tad smaller. I try not to over-do those notes (which are double-stops on string instruments), but if I know I could play it I am tempted to leave them in there. I know it is messier when the notes are close together, and not as much of a problem when separated by a fourth or larger. Great feedback, thank you!

I could not post a PDF of the sheet music anywhere because of copyright issues. Most of these videos are copyright claimed, so RUclips is giving proper credit/revenue to the claimant (I hope). However, posting a PDF of copyrighted sheet music is not something I would, or should, do. I think the easiest thing for you to have a paper copy would be to screen capture the 5-6 different "pages" in the video and then paste those in order in file (even MS Word could do this). I think you'd be able to fit it in two pages, three max.

Two Suns in the Sunset from The Final Cut- I remember buying this album when it first came out and grew attached to it in high school. Only two tracks made it to the radio and MTV, but since I bought the album I was committed to enjoying it! Anyhow, I haven't heard this song in such a long time and seeing it here just brought back memories. No, I haven't forgotten the other suggestions, in fact I added a text file to my desktop with all of those listed so that I can work through them. I will add these others that you mentioned.

How do you go from listening to the song to being able to accurately and creatively build the arrangement and then so clearly get it down on the software so fast!! Wow

I do try to start with a decent midi file. Those people that create accurate midi files are the true heroes and they are still out there doing it. Last week someone asked for a song I never heard from one of those TV contests in Europe and I thought it's just 2-3 years old, I won't find it. There was one midi file, and two entries on MuseScore-dot-com with two in the key of C, and one in D♭ (it sounded like a James Bond song release , very pretty) and after listening I chose a key and brought everything into one score. I use the free software Musescore and just try to use whatever music-sense and music theory I know. However, over 90% is based on quality midi files which makes for a very quick workflow!

So if there's no musescore entry already, you just use your ear to listen to the midi files instead of the original mp4 track on youtube for example then choose a key and transpose/transcribe with your ear and music theory knowledge? That's the basic format if I wanted to try a simple one to see how it all comes together myself? Love the TIME and SHINE ON sheets btw! So much fun learning those! Thank you!! @@CentralTendency

Yes, my work flow is open source (free) software. I use MuseScore to edit a midi file. Next, I export a sound file (mp3) of the background music, without the lead melody. Step 3, arrange the melody for C/B♭/E♭ and watch page transitions. Step 4, "play" the melody while capturing the motion with a screen capture app (VokoscreenNG, also free). Step 5, match the background music and the play-along videos in KDEnLive (also free) and render the MP4 videos ready to upload to RUclips.

It all comes down to finding a decent quality midi file to toss into MuseScore. For the past 12 months or so I have committed to creating a C/Bb/Eb version of each play along video - (if I don't then I will hear from the sax players, lol). Seriously, though - my instrument is guitar so you may notice a "guitar centric" choice of songs. A benefit of guitar is that if you can sight-read music notiation, then you can easily play it in C, Bb, or Eb by shifting the position you play in. So, it keeps my skills up. These are great suggestions, so I will put them in the queue!
