Project P38 mystery misfire SOLVED
Introduction to my project 2001 Land Rover P38a Range Rover 4.6 HSE. I’ve had this for going on 6 months now, bought it with a misfire that eluded me - now solved. Have you ever had a valve spring go full Bluetooth on you? This one did, the exhaust valve on the 4.6L Bosch V8 let go and was causing the misfire and zero compression. This should be a pretty healthy truck once it is fixed, now if I can just find the time to do it.

Saying goodbye to my Supercharged Range Rover… again
Просмотров 369Год назад
If you watched the last video you saw I was uncovering a series of really nasty issues that lead me to believe I probably wouldn’t keep it. Well, I didn’t - I sent this L322 Range Rover supercharged to Land Rover heaven. In its place I did find a fun daily driver that I think I will keep for a little bit. Not quite what I had envisioned, but I picked up a 2000 BMW 540it (e39 V8 wagon). Maybe I’...
I bought sight unseen the worst running and driving L332 in the country

What happens when you buy the worst Range Rover in the country? Running and driving, but that’s about the end of the good bits. The L332 is legendary, but this one sat at a dealer auction lot for months before I bought it - if no one else would buy it, why would I? I didn’t even want another supercharged L322. I love saving Land Rovers, but is this one too far gone? Tell me in the comments what...

I bought a high mileage Supercharged 2006 Range Rover and sold it after only a few weeks of ownership. With the L322 being the preferred SUV of automotive giants like Clarkson, Metcalfe, and thousands of knowledgeable enthusiasts, why would I do something so dumb like sell it? It might not be what you are expecting, check out the video and then let me know just how wrong I am in the comments. N...
Another Land Rover Discovery rescued, another budget overlanding build

When I found this 1999 Land Rover Discovery 2, is was destitute and bound for the scrap yard. The original owner had obviously taken really good care of it, but it must have become too much for him and it sat for years. I bought it non-running because it was rust free and also for the off-road bits it already had on it. I thought worst case I would pull the good parts off for another project an...

Why did I buy another non-running Discovery!?
Просмотров 9183 года назад
I won’t play games, I bought this truck because the roof rack attached to it is more valuable than the truck itself. This 2000 Land Rover Discovery 2 was diagnosed by the Land Rover dealer as having a blown head gasket. The owner had the heads redone about 3,000 miles ago and recently replaced the starter, battery, and some other bits. He has enough and was ready to walk away. I am going to put...

Fitting new door cards to my ex-military Land Rover Series 3

Today I review and install Señorbarbo door cards in my ex-military Land Rover Series 3. I just purchased a 1999 D2 with 135k miles (trailered it home on Friday). Looks like it’s spent it’s life in Dallas. I’ve spent the weekend watching videos and am looking forward to clearing up all the issues its sure to have. Do you have any recommendations? Anything from where to purchase parts, forums to read or quality resources is appreciated. Whatever you think.

      @rvarover 7 месяцев назад

Oh yeah, there’s tons out there. The D2 is well documented. If you haven’t found him yet, Addicted Motors on RUclips does mostly Rover stuff. For parts, check out Lucky8, Rovers North, Atlantic British, British Parts of Utah, RovahFarm, Great Basin Rovers… there’s probably more I’m forgetting. Some UK parts places have better selection at times and can get stuff to you just as quickly, like FamousFour, Rimmer Bros, LRParts.net, LR Direct, Paddock Spares, and John Craddock LTD. Forums mostly are DiscoWeb (unsure of how active still, but lots of history), and then Facebook groups. Oh, and get yourself an Ultragauge. Good luck with the new adventure!

Depends on what you want out of it, but that sounds like a buy to me. If it isn't rusty and has been mechanically maintained, that would make an excellent trail truck - or - you could learn how to do some prep work for the paint and then get a pro to paint it and save a lot of money. Either way, I think I'd bring that thing home!

In reality, I need a truck like you describe, a vintage utility vehicle like my Series, a more modern one like a D1/RRC to do my fun/challenging off-roading in, then I need a 911 to do my sporty driving in, and then a L322 Supercharged to take the kids to school in and just have as a nice car. If there is no compression how are you going to build up air pressure to hold the valve in place? I don't quite see how a broken valve spring would result in no compression unless the valve subsequently bent. I have 2 P38s, both 99 Autobiographies. The recently purchased one had a misfire on cylinder 7 which I fixed by replacing the injector. Had to replace the rear diff as well. Six bolts holding the ring gear in place lost their heads and this was causing a vibration. Very strange. Good luck with yours.

By comparison to my LR3, it is definitely significantly faster, but so was my LR4. The LR4 and 4.2 supercharged L322 both felt about the same in terms of speed. Even my E39 540i wagon that replaced this feels faster and it has over 100hp less. It's just a big car, and that's ok - it does what it needs to very well and there is just something about them that I love.

Depending on how old your L322 is, mine's a 2006 and it's the fastest car I've ever driven other than a Porsche 944 turbo and that was a lot newer then ( around 1989) and it was four or five years old. It was borrowed for a trip ( with the owner on board) but it was bloody quick ( around 142 mph indicated on a certain road going up North). Now I've not had my rangie anywhere near that sort of speed, but the acceleration on a 16 year old vehicle is bloody astounding! Especially in the mid range stomping on the gas ( literally as it's on LPG ) the acceleration from 35-40 up to 90 is astounding. And that is in standard automatic mode. Stick it in Sport and it's shit off a shovel, and in command shift when you take it up to the Red line in all of the needed gears up to 90 blew my personal socks off. And I bet it wouldn't be very far behind the Porsche 944 turbo either !
