First Time Using Onshape
👋 Hi everyone!
I wanted to thank you for participating in last week's poll, it really helps to hear your opinion so I can better manage expectations. To everyone's insight, I'll just be posting once a week instead of keeping a strict schedule. So looking forward to continuing making these videos and documenting my journey at a time/pace more flexible!
As for this week... I got to say you were right about learning CAD as opposed to using Blender for 3D Printing. Here's my first taste into OnShape.

    Love the multi-camera editing! I wish I could help you with the kerning, but I've never used Onshape. You can't do it in Fusion 360 either. The closest you can get is to fit to path and make the path narrower, which squeezes the characters closer.

    loved the video. noticed how you used the shell tool. I think a better way is to just add a second rectangle in the sketch and dimension it. That way you only extrude one of the rectangles, and if you want the base, just extrude that as well.

    You mentioned that you use bags from the grocery store for garbage bags. Produce bags are also a good option. Any of the “bulk” produce bags (where you can grab like 5 apples and weigh them and put them in a bag) are perfect for small trash cans. Also, have you seen gridfinity? If you like organizing, you’d probably really like it.

    Good list, personally the most practical thing I printed was the AMS top mount, allowing you to mount the AMS on top of your A1 and saving a ton of space. Can't forget the scraper handle for removing prints as well :)

    • @JackieMakesStuff1
      @JackieMakesStuff1 15 дней назад

      I never printed the AMS mount but I have to go ahead and do that! I also tried printing the scraper itself but it wasn't that great in my opinion. I found it quite easy just to remove it by fingers.

    • @asteriye0
      @asteriye0 15 дней назад

      @@JackieMakesStuff1 Yeah big prints definitely are fine using fingers. The scraper is more so if you want to remove something ASAP after printing and if it's small since ideally you don't want to be touching the print bed with your fingers to avoid getting any oils on it.

    Im planning on buying my first 3d printer soon, can you explain with more detail (for someone who never used a printer yet) what do you mean by slicing your model to save filament? min 6:14

    • @JackieMakesStuff1
      @JackieMakesStuff1 15 дней назад

      Yeah for sure! So if you watch my first video, I was trying to design a product that can hold 2 SSDs. Every time I wanted to test print for sizing, I would print the whole model (which wastes a lot of filament). Someone in the comments then suggested and taught me that, if you're trying to test size and clearance (gap between two parts), you can just print a flat sheet where the fit is supposed to be. This way, you can test if it works, the size, all while saving filament. Hope that makes sense!

    About the AMS wastefulness, one tip is using print by object, which is useful if you have small and less number of objects, let’s say 3 small keychains of different colors each, you can use print in sequence feature so they’re placed distant from each other and print one object after another.

    • @JackieMakesStuff1
      @JackieMakesStuff1 20 дней назад

      Is that done inside Bambu Studio? I tried a split object button but it ended up displacing the text and making it its own thing for some reason. Maybe there's another button I'm unaware of? I'd love to know as this would definitely be a good thing to learn!

    • @srinathm3836
      @srinathm3836 17 дней назад

      @ yeah it’s in the slicer! You’d have to enable “Objects” tab instead of “plate”(I think. I don’t have my laptop with me). And then in the Others or Advanced tab you should find the Print sequence option with says by object and by layer. Once you select it, it shows you how much space you need to have between each object, which is usually a lot because the printer needs to make sure the entire hot end fixture including the fans doesn’t hit the already printed object while printing the new one. Generally useful for smaller objects. I’ll update once I’m home tho

    Creators and creatives will always face criticism from those who contribute nothing to society. Trolling the comment sections of people who try to make a positive impact is their only way of expressing themselves. The best way to deal with them is to ignore them. Keep creating and listen to your own thoughts, and of course, the helpful and constructive comments ;).

    Bambu has prioritized efficiency and quality over lack of waste when it comes to multi color. For me, its a trade off that is worth it. Nice video

    • @JackieMakesStuff1
      @JackieMakesStuff1 22 дня назад

      I would agree on quality but not efficiency. I think the AMS lite purges an excess amount of filament when switching colours and it should have a better system in managing multicolour prints. The current “paint” way of doing it on Bambu studio is quite limited and I think there should be a way to “print via colour” order, where say if you make a STL that includes multiple parts, you can choose to print each part one by one (dependant on colour/order/placement) instead of having it print all of them at the same time by layer. There may be settings to do that already that I’m unaware of but that is my 2 cents.

    The most annoying part about CADing is finding software that suits your needs and learning how to use it. I started with Fusion 360 (too hard), then moved to Blender (too imprecise). Meanwhile, I use Tinkercad for simple tasks. Now, I’m using FreeCAD. It’s quite challenging when most guides are for other CAD programs rather than the one you’re using. To overcome this, you need to "master" your chosen software to adapt the necessary techniques from others.
