    I owned a nearly identical '72 GTO. Same color, 455 HO engine, wheels etc. My car had a white interior and white vinyl roof. The rear sway bars that came with the upgraded suspension tended to break near where they bolted into the rear suspension. I had to replace mine only one time. The engine was a great street engine with the aluminum intake, etc. Fun times indeed!

    Amazing car. You mentioned car was ordered even though a very late production date. If this was the case, it seems that car has a very strange configuration-----manual drums/no power sterring/base engine/column shift (presume base interior) leads one to believe very stripped down model. Yet also has deluxe wheel covers/factory pin striping as custom touches. Guess we'll never know what was in the mind of the engineer when he speced car. As an owner of a mostly original Montero red/parchment interiror 65 GTO this video series is very helpful in comparing items on my car to factory production protocols. Thanks for sharing!

    Is there is a foam block between the lower inner and outer fender section near the rocker? My '67 has this mystery piece. It's 1-3/8" x 1-1/4" x 7/8" in size with a split down the center that hugged a sheet metal edge.

    This GTO should be in a museum. I really like the fact that Mr. Byrd ordered it with the factory deluxe full wheelcovers, which wasn't something often seen or specified back in the day (most 65 GTOs had either the new Rally I wheels or painted steelies w/ dog dish caps).

      @YernBelfus400 10 месяцев назад

      @damonh.9345 Wrong. The first model year for the original GTO was 1962. It was powered by a 180 cubic inch V-12 with aluminum block and heads, two overhead cams, two distributors, and 12-barrel carburetion, backed by a 5-speed manual transmission. John DeLorean was so smitten by the original GTO, that he "borrowed" the name (without permission) to use on the performance package for Pontiac's mid-sized passenger car two years later in 1964. I would encourage you to Google "1962 GTO" and learn about it.

      Good catch, we looked up the original build sheet and the car did have power steering from the factory. However, when we had the window sticker made it must have been overlooked. We will have it corrected. Thank you for the nice comment.

      So we did some research and power steering was included in the WW5 option, but Pontiac did not always list it in the breakout of the WW5 option. So through our research we also discovered there are 6 different ways (maybe more) Pontiac broke out the WW5 option in 1972, it was a very weird year for their window stickers.
