This pedestrian light has been here ever since the 1980 which means it is pretty old. Unfortunately, I ran out of ideas for the video description so can you please give me more?

Cannot figure out something to say for this, but unfortunately, the flashing yellow arrow signal did not flash yellow when the pedestrian walk signal came on. I sent a request to the city about it but still, they just left it like that.

What I was surprised about is that one of the pedestrian hands dies and since then pedestrians were ignoring that pedestrian signal (except for me who still knew). If you look closely in the video you could see pedestrians ignoring that pedestrian signal and I was surprised to see it. Other than that, these signals were installed in 2013, which is the e...

The reason why there are traffic lights is because of lots of pedestrians and drivers coming around here and it’s also because it is an intersection through a train station and a restaurant. The exact reason is also to make pedestrians wait for all vehicles to pass easily and in order to save timer for a very long time. There is also lots of traffic coming from a blind corner which is why there...

Why does your title still say dead incandescent green balls if there are no incandescent green balls at this intersection?
That's not rare, it's a yellow flashing arrow left turn signal. It is seen in a lot of cities and is becoming more and more common.
If you look in the title, you’ll know it’s rare in California. Las Vegas has it very common.
Does your city have any other pedestrian signals except LED countdown?
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 No. But I know there is one pedestrian signal other than a countdown in Cupertino, which replaced a dying countdown pedestrian signal in 2007.
These signals aren’t abandoned
@@STOPHEREProductions they are abandoned and I can tell because this is not an intersection and there are traffic lights just unnecessarily there.
Can you post El Camino Real and Grant
@@Joshua_Park_693 there is no intersection like that.
@@TrafficLightAdventurer I meant CA-82 and CA-237
E El Camino Real and Grant Rd is in Mountain View, CA
@@Joshua_Park_693 Google maps?
Is it rare in that city?
It’s rare all over California not just San Diego. This video was actually taken in Fremont, which is located in the Bay Area.
Countdowns are always malfunctioning and prematurely dying.
But some at this intersection are working fine, except for 2.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 I know, but I’ve seen a pedestrian signal other than a countdown die before.
I always love traffic lights with no mast arm. Its nostalgic to me because it used to be more common several decades ago.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 I know, but this one, and even the newer installations are still common in my area.
That is not a malfunction. The left arrow signal is programmed to show the red arrow while someone is crossing the street, and that's also why the city didnt do anything. I also have a video of another signal doing the same thing.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 but they’re supposed to yield to both vehicles and pedestrians. MUTCD requires the yellow flashing to be on the walk signal.
@@TrafficLightAdventurerIt depends on how busy the intersection is. If it's a quiet intersection with light traffic, then the yellow arrow flashes while the walk light is on, but at other intersections where there is more traffic, the red arrow stays on while the walk light is on so the person safely gets across the street.
Countdown pedestrian lights didnt exist until 2005. Are you talking about the pedestrian housing it self?
They did exist before 2005 and this is an old chirp sound. The pedestrian housing is a standard hand/man housing and this pedestrian signal actually used to be a worded pedestrian signal with the others being standard hand man back in the 1980s and then since then it was changed to a countdown in 1985.
@Trafficlightsiosandmore Again, countdown pedestrian signals did not exist until 2005. It was worded pedestrian signals everywhere in 1985 with either neon or incandescent lighting.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 Not only neons or incandescent lights go in pedestrian signals. The are LED, neon ir incandescent.
@@Trafficlightsiosandmore That's right. LED can go in old pedestrian housings, but LED countdowns themselves didn't exist until 2005.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 I never knew that the countdown pedestrian signal was introduced in 2005 and it was rare during that time, but it’s getting a lot more common now. I kept on thinking that it existed before 2005. do you believe that pedestrian sign should be manufactured to be worded countdowns.
Countdown timer broken
No. Look closely.
@@TrafficLightAdventurerBut one is broken
By the way, on Wolfe Rd and Maria Ln, there is a dying countdown pedestrian signal
Pedestrian signal isn’t dying. It’s just the walk sign.
@@Trafficlightsiosandmore I meant a dying hand on Wolfe Rd
@@Joshua_Park_693 that one was actually just the thumb destroyed by a car crash that happened a year ago and it’s not dying.
One the pedestrian signal where the hand is dead, the countdown timer still works at least.
Be careful so people don't think you're filming them.
Whats pointless about it?
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 it’s because the crosswalk is not painted enough to be an actual crosswalk and also nobody pays attention to this pedestrian signal, and if you look closely in the video, you will see pedestrians ignoring the signal.
@TrafficLightAdventurer Those are pedestrians just being dumb who have no patience to wait for the walk light, and not all crosswalks are painted. Doesnt make the pedestrian signal pointless.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 that’s exactly not true. This is not a crosswalk and there is just a pedestrian signal and nobody except for me is paying attention to it. The city probably should remove it.
@TrafficLightAdventurer It is true. If you are ignoring the pedestrian signal, then you risk getting hit by a vehicle. Also if there is a pedestrian signal, then that means it is a crosswalk. I even see roads on both sides which confirms that it is indeed a crosswalk.
Intersection?
Downgrade from countdown to no countdown
@@Joshua_Park_693 yes but someone just did call it in after just weeks and then they replaced it with another countdown.
Sorry for the video being bad.
You should change your video title because it is a signal for buses.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354they make it look like a pedestrian signal so that busses cannot pay attention.
@@TrafficLightAdventurer???
Likely due to ped reservice if the pedestrian cycle is shorter than the green left in the cycle.
Also because the traffic lights are on a timed green or resting on green.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 Cycle refers to the timing plan. A pedestrian phase will not call again if there is demand on the sidestreet. But since the ped phase was called, it means the green was timed to last longer than the full pedestrian time. Ped reservice programming allows the phase to be called again within the cycle. Otherwise, the pedestrian phase would not be called until the cycle reset to zero and started over. Rest in green occurs during free run (untimed, uncoordinated). Unless the signal detector on the green phase is broken, it should have terminated first for the sidestreet vehicles, then call the pedestrian phase.
MUTCD and CA MUTCD no longer allow the worded pedestrian signals. They must use the hand/person lights.
@@traffic.engineer they do allow them, but cities are just in the desire of switching.
@@TrafficLightAdventurer Please read the standards before posting. FHWA did not allow worded pedestrian signals after the 2000 MUCTD, which California adopted in the state MUTCD. Existing signals were permitted to remain as long as they were functional. Replacements were required to use the hand/person signal. I personally, though, think this was a nonsense standard. I did not see any studies that said this better conveyed the message. If anything, the worded Winkomatics imitated the vehicular signals to convey the walk and don't walk.
@@traffic.engineer oh. But they still do have worded pedestrian signals around Pennsylvania, but I know they are still a lot common there so then the CA MUTCD disallowed this now and that’s why it’s rare here.
Well that’s… certainly something. Where is this?
@@cjrthesignalfan Novato, CA.
Nice
MUTCD prohibits one signal with a red and green arrow lit simultaneously.
@@traffic.engineer ok. I’ll tell the city to never program it like that again and then tell them that those arrows should actually be separated.
@@TrafficLightAdventurer Also let them know about the 4-section signals at the US 101 ramps. The right turn arrow must be UNDER the left turn arrow.
@@traffic.engineer I don’t think it would be nice to have the right green arrow to be under the left green arrow because it would be confusing to drivers. They since then had the arrow separated from each other because I told them that MUTCD does not allow it. Traffic light to do what you said before I was replying to your comment.
An improvement over California's inadequate signal design. The only place I have seen this was Palo Alto.
@@traffic.engineerI know. Looks pretty cool.
Gaaaaaay
Why do you have to use that word like that?
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 because the new one sucks lol
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 bro used a bad word.
I put this song up here on this video because recently today this exact same song played at the school that is near these traffic lights. So you see that screen over there at the middle of the video it is actually a touchscreen for a selection for what could happen at that place which is almost never used, except for what you see that person is standing.
Intersection?
@@Joshua_Park_693 Jack London Blvd & Paragon Outloods Ave.
To me that Dialight is a sucky product.
@@Joshua_Park_693 it’s not very sucky some other companies have the countdown timers break as well and many Dialight versions are actually doing OK except for that one pedestrian signal that you see in the video that’s doing that. And this company does not make very good things and is not competing with any other companies and they unfortunately had to discontinue pedestrian signals and now they had since been replaced by McCain’s.
@@TrafficLightAdventurer I mean, usually that one in the video is. In my opinion, I usually like older Dialight modules from 2004-2005 better than newer modules.
@@Joshua_Park_693 some newer modules are already working fine in my city so I like those it’s just that the older versions will have a countdown timer that flashes when I don’t like it.
@@TrafficLightAdventurer Some newer modules in my city, Irvine and Tustin, are losing its LEDs.
@@Joshua_Park_693 not in Santa Clara, but the reason why this happens is because of the high heat, and the cities are very high heat. The newer versions are doing well in my area.
Ack! Only 29 showed up
That happened once to my own personal pedestrian signal, and I threw it long away ago.
@@Trafficlightsiosandmore Trashed it?
@@Trafficlightsiosandmore Could you post your personal traffic lights?
@@Joshua_Park_693 I never had time to post it.
@@Joshua_Park_693 yes. The countdown timer on my own personal Dialight countdown pedestrian signal with a built-in Wilcox Sales APS wasn’t working, and I threw that pedestrian signal away. That speaker was still built in well it was in that exact place. I was trying to purchase it, and then still that speaker was thrown in the trash along with that as well. It happened there because those types of pedestrian signals are not very heat resistant in my parents set my heater to heat up to 83°F and because they thought it was too cold when it was below 80°, and since then, the countdown timer, was not working properly and kept dying out and sometimes if it would get fixed, it would just show random numbers.
I Have Seen 4 Signal Heads On A Mast Arm At Central Avenue And Edison Avenue In Chino, California Just Like This Intersection
What broken dimmer?
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 excessively bright in the city told me they were trying to enable dimmer, but they couldn’t do that which makes it excessively bright, which is what makes the countdown timers get broken on it the LED pedestrian signals because dimmers do not get turned on making it like that. Also, the city of San Diego does not turn on the dimmer, which is why their pedestrian hands are all dying. San Diego is pretty hot and countdown pedestrian signals are not resistant to such heat which is why you’re noticing these types of countdown, which is why you notice that these types of to pedestrian signals which my camera picks up the numbers is flickering is not doing well. Also, just a few days after this video of the countdown pedestrian signal is already dying actually now. I did tell the city about it and they replaced it with a new pedestrian signal which at least is doing fine. The brand of the pedestrian signal in the video is a Dialight.
So when does it know to change to yield?
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 yes and it’s because there is a built-in sensor on it to detect buses where no one pays attention to it because it looks like a pedestrian signal, and also three and pedestrian signals have been getting phased out and uncommon because it’s confusing drivers to think it’s making pedestrians for thinking it’s a traffic signal and pedestrians will ignore it.
Okay so there's a sensor, thanks.
That’s the first time I’ve ever seen that!
I have also seen that for the first time too. They are actually quite rare.

@@Joshua_Park_693Still got 5 of them left in San Diego.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 That's good. Hopefully they stay.
@@Joshua_Park_693 I know, but there are just no worries because of them still in San Diego so at least I would just like this new pedestrian signal after a year because the countdown is doing OK.
This is why standard hand/man pedestrian signals are better.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 Not like that. Some standard pedestrian signal to deteriorate as well.
@TrafficLightAdventurer But they perform better than a countdown though because it's simply a hand and a walk.
@@sandiegotrafficlightstrain354 my city has the countdown actually perform as good as the hands/man so they keep it. I know some cities where the countdowns aren’t performing well so they just replaced it. At least the pedestrian signs are counting down when I expected to, so at least the countdown timer is ok.
cool song
That is not a pedestrian signal. That is a signal for buses exiting the bus stop.
