I removed an old one to replace and it didn't make sense. Thanks for the video, all clear now.
where can i get a transparent tank?
where do you buy a transparent tank?
Yes but how do you get the cistern to empty through the front?
@theyellowhoneybee 4 years ago Thank you so much. Helped me out .
Which part failure would suddenly cause no long flush, but only very short flush?
What is the diameter of the flush pipe?
why is there only one rubber washer in the kit it need 2 one each side of the big nut
Great video . Why might water keep coming into the cistern and overflowing into the pan despite the 6L level being reached? I did notice the yellow pins were almost out of their holes, but not entirely. I pushed them back in, but still water flowing into the cistern.
how can i get a transparent toilet set for demonstration purposes
Why the moronic music rather than useful commentary?. How utterly crass🙄 How do I make internal overflow work? Pull out yellow peg?
Great video, saved me £100. On mine the diaphragm was shredded...now it flushes like new..after 3mins of great plumbing work by yours truly😅..
Are all Dudley Turbo flushes dual flush, I seem to have one at home that is and one that isn't? I am looking to buy another and want to make sure I purchase the dual flush.
Dudley, you are the bees knees. I don't have to call out a plumber (London) who charges £80 ph just to turn up, ie £100 inc VAT. then buggers off to the plumbers merchants to get a spare part which he should be carrying in his van, charges me another £100 for that trip, then half an hour fixing it, total cost £250. It drives me mad. You should get the queens award to industry
This is why I fix whatever I can myself.
You were really ripped off there. The plumber I used asked me to send a picture of the old syphon to his mobile through Whatsapp, which I did. He went and got a Dudley Turbo 88 replacement for the non-Dudley one in my cistern before coming to me. All was done in half an hour. Total was £85 parts and labour. I would have liked to have mended it myself after watching instructions on RUclips but being an elderly lady I don't have quite the confidence I used to have to do jobs like this.
Nightmare to install 😞 Do not recommend 👎 I use the cable version. Much easier and user friendly
Agree with you, but sometimes you have to replace like to like 😅
@@blendi3825 the base is the same so just replace it with the cable version. That's sort of like for like .
Here I am again with the same problem - the hollow float seems unable to lift the valve shut so I sealed the silly open ended float and still it is unable to lift the valve shut - I have reduced the pressure and flow to no avail. I get the idea of the valve is to equalise the pressure and close the valve but it is very problematic and i'm getting ready to change the whole Flusher if it continues.
All good but how do i just adjust it to have more water in the cistern ??
May I be the first to say what a fucking joy it is to find a thing in 2022 that is actually designed to be serviced, not thrown away, nor needing to call out some bastard who earns more money than you do to fix some menial household bullshit. BRAVO gallant toilet company! Bravo!
Multi-flush - do you make a flush with the correct logic (like my old one) where the short flush you let go of the handle and for a longer flush you hold it down ? It's the style I've got and it's logical - so will be wanting the same again - when the time comes.
Many thanks. This was very helpful. Unfortunately my cistern doesn't have a transparent front so I can't see what I am doing as clearly as you can, but this video set me o the correct path.
Interesting how it doesn’t say how big the hole needs to be. I have the large push button dual flush and no instructions for how big the whole needs to be. Absolute shit this
Wickes sell this as beingable to install without disconnecting the water or cistern clearly that is nonsense
Think you'll find it says "serviced" without disconnecting water. The cistern must be emptied & isolated for initially fitting the unit - but from that point you can remove the blue part from inside the cistern to replace the plastic diaphragm (the part which ultimately fails) - without even turning the water off.
@@SteeeveO but they last about 20 years -not helpful really.
@@Deppel57 I replaced one about 8 years ago & it's just started to play up - so it'll be a drain down & cistern off job again. I'd rather move house.....
@@SteeeveO You need to buy one made last century.
Before my plumber arrived (I'm an elderly lady without the confidence to do the job myself} I tied the ballcock up as high as it would go with string around a screwdriver that went across the top of the cistern. I emptied the water with a small container and sponged out the rest. By the time he arrived the cistern was dry and he changed the syphon without even turning off the water at the stopcock. Of course he had to be careful not to knock the screwdriver because the ballvalve would drop and water would start filling up. It saved him quite a bit of time.
Thank you again , mine is up and flushing at last
at last an easy understandable set up , you have saved me a lot of messing about . SO GRATEFUL, Tony
My short flush has stopped performing, but it does do a long flush, so I suspect the diaphragm is to blame. Can I buy just a replacement diaphragm?
If the diaphragm is split both flush wouldn’t work. It’s the valve attached to rod of the diaphragm that falls back preventing air entry to break the siphoning. Blue flap supposed to hold the rubber washer underneath but it fails will give a full flush. Easy problem to solve.
@@asokabalage Is there a video for this searching everywhere please.
Misleading as video starts with height adjustable version, then switches to fixed height version - note yellow plugs
I have a valve problem - the float raises but will not shut the water off and so it over tops the overflow pipe. Have cleaned the filter, checked the diaphragm and the tiny rubber seal in the lever control but still cannot get it to stop filling - HELP
Very nice video, please check the link as follow. We have one new cistern, please check and let us know if we have chance to work together. www.xy-plumbing.com/Slim-Concealed-Cistern-pd45516235.html email: Sales@xinyu-international.com
The cistern is also refitted in an entirely different position???
Whats the ignored black washer stored on the oh the side of the cistern for ? Also the Service kit shows another washer being fitted over the diaphragm retaining boss ??? Can't even see it here?
Hi there can you get the parts for this
Is the bottom outlet a standard size for all toilets
Thanks for this. I noticed an annoying drip from the valve but assumed the ballcock needed tightening. This didn't work so I sought online advice and now the problem is fixed, total cost £3.69 for new diaphragm.
Thanks for uploading the video, I didn't realise that these could be serviced. This saved me the hassle of removing the close coupled toilet in order to replace the syphon, instead I purchased the service kit from my local diy store, removed the syphon and replaced the diaphragm and seals as in the video/instructions and all works as new. It actually took longer to collect the service pack than replace the worn parts, all at a cost of £6. Thank you Thomas Dudley for making this all so easy!
Which DIY store and what do you get in the replacement pack please?
The short flush stopped working on my Dudley 88 Siphon, so having watched this video, I bought a service pack containing a new diaphragm. The yellow snap pin jammed against the cistern and could not be removed, thereby preventing the main body from being lifted out. This meant the whole device had to be removed turning a 5 minute job into a 2 hour job. It would have been helpful if the video advised checking to see if there is room for the snap pin to be removed.
You spillover should be 20-32mm above water line, what if the distance from the spillover to water level is greater, will internal overflow still work? THANKS
Yes it will still work to a point. The greater the distance the more force required to start the flush (i.e. start the syphonic action). If it's too far then the flush may not start at all.
If you can't get it any lower, perhaps try adjusting your refill mechanism to fill up the tank more before shutting off. The suggested height is to ensure that the flush mechanism has sufficient head to start the Syphon easily.
why does yellow pin change size after being replaced ie double pin showing then single yellow pin then back to double yellow pin
The one shown at 0:40 is the fixed height version - so not adjustable.
At the end of the video he connects the dual push pipes the wrong way round !
The easy servicing of these syphons seems to be a bit of a myth. Mine is slightly different from the one in the video, instead of the yelllow plastic widget, mine has a white pin which is also the pivot for the lifting mechanism. tinyurl.com/y2fz4ja5 This pin cannot be removed becausethe gap betweenthe syphon and the side of the cistern is too small to get a hand into. Even if it could be removed the syphon could not then be lifted out because the arm of the ball cock is in the way.
Same here, I can remove the yellow pin okay, but I will also need to remove the arm, handle( which appears to have welded itself to the shaft) and probably the inlet valve as well.
I have a brand new one of these but I can't get the short flush to work. It always gives a full flush. Holding the button down while it flushes definitely raises the short flush valve but it doesn't seem to let enough air in to break the syphon, I must have thick water or something.
Thank you so much. Helped us out how to fit properly
Slightly different set up due to age of cistern but very informative helped me no end when servicing it Changed siphon seal round which stopped running water into pan
I can't concentrate with that amazing upbeat tune!
You have not explained the Cone Ring: all you say is 'Connect fushpipe and tighten capnut'?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
So where did the black and blue washers come from ? You did not take them off but you put them on !! Not a good video. Take more care when producing stuff like this.
When you remove the piston they fall out into the pan and hide around the bend. You'll be sure to find them there.
@@petehiggins33That's not good, the toilet pan still has "mass" inside as my flush is failing to fully flush, so if when the flush fails the repair causes the small parts to fall into the pan, that's going to be messy!
@@bardsamok9221 I was only joking, that would only happen if you were daft enough to hold it over the pan while dismantling it.
hi tried this but I noticed the filter none of the material was on it was just the frame must have deteriorated. would that cause the cistern to never turn off the water? it's constantly filling.
A bit lie the instructions on the box - it is not clear which way in the rubber valve and its seating go - and the video dos not help.
Excellent - this solved my slow filling problem in seconds. With ten years of scale behind the filter I was able to dismantle it. Next time I'll stick the instructions next to the cistern. Thank you. It's a great unit in every respect.
I have a Thomas Dudley single flush TD212-A which has developed a problem. The first problem was that (and I don't know the correct names for these parts) within the green cap of the flushing contraption was a tiny rocket and flap which operated onto a diaphragm. The plastic clip here was broken but I have fixed that with a new drilled hole and wire, so it works. However to flush the loo, a single press of the button fails to properly flush. A one second press and the flush just stops. A ten second push keeps the flush working. So a short push just doesn't do the job any more. Nothing appears amiss. Help!
Fitted on of these yesterday but it would not flush correctly. Randomly the water would not siphon out of the cistern properly and would take around 2 minutes to drain the cistern, but the next flush would work fine. Checked instructions and verified it was installed correctly and adjusted properly - it was. Also the unit did not come with a back nut or seal even though it was purchased still sealed in its cellophane shrink wrapping. Had to buy another cheap siphon to get the back nut and seal but ultimately ended up having to fit the cheap siphon anyway which worked correctly first time. Wasted £23 and can't get my money back. Humph..
Where and how does the syvac unit fit into the syphon?,,
+richard evans Hi - it fits within the white downleg part of the syphon however you must use a fixed height syphon with a syvac not the adjustable syphon. They have different bore sizes
