Welcome to my channel!
I'm Steven and I've been fascinated by scale models as long as I can remember.
Although a full-time job prevents me from making a large amount of videos, I still like to share some of my projects when i get the opportunity.
I'm interested in WWII and cold war subjects, but other stuff can pop up on my bench as well.
I hope you'll find my videos amusing and wish you all a great time at the bench or kitchen table.
Cheers, Steven

ENCLOSURE for a 3D Resin Printer || Anycubic Photon D2
In this video I'm building an enclosure for an 'Anycubic Photon D2' resin 3D printer.
Working in a tight enclosed space like this might not work for everyone, especially if you are used to work in a dedicated 3D printing room with lots of space.
* I recommend to make the enclosure deeper than mine, so the side-door can be wider and the project will be less cramped.
You can integrate some of these techniques into your own project, but bare in mind there's a 1000 different ways to build a project like this (mine might not be the easiest nor best solution) - So try to keep it simple and customize it to your own needs & skills.

My Airbrush COMPRESSOR BOX - Sound Reduction - Take a look inside - DIY
Просмотров 35 тыс.Год назад
In this video we'll take a look inside my homemade 'Sound-Reduction-Box', which I made about 10 years ago for my noisy (96dB) Airbrush Compressor. The box reduces the noise to a workable/acceptable level, so it's not 'silent' but I can use it inside for airbrushing scale-models. There might be better solutions, this is just a video how I did it. Thanks & Have a nice day. Notes * - This video is...

Diorama SHERMAN TANK monument La Roche en Ardenne (M4A1)

A small 1/35 diorama I made in 2017 of the 'La Roche-en-Ardenne' Sherman Tank monument, which honors the American soldiers who fought during the Ardennes offensive, also know as the 'Battle of the Bulge'. This tank was hit multiple times by German Armour-piercing rounds, killing the crew. It was restored and put in position by the Belgian “1/3 Régiment de lanciers” (Cavalry Regiment) on the 17t...
Very good. You could further add sound-dampening foam or even some old towels to the inside walls and shelves of the closet
Excellent! I especially like the use of the computer fan for cooling.
Could you talk more about the venting and your comment on creating a vacuum?
Well basically when you have a sealed box - and you put a fan on it to extract the air, the fan pulls out all the air it can and creates a vacuum. This will put a lot of force on the fan-motor. So to avoid creating a vacuum you need a second opening to pull new air inside the box. In my case it's the grill in the frontdoor. During printing the fan is rotating slow, so the grill opening is enough, but when cleaning I set the fan to a high speed, then more air is sucked out, so I need to let more air in, to do this I open the front doors, both for my arms and to let new air in... hope this makes sence, cheers
Excellent result!!
Put playstation in it
this is very useful thank you
Really enjoyed your video. I have ordered myself a couple of ICM Spitfires and because I had read a couple of mixed reviews I was curious as to the quality of these kits. You have done a really good job on the paint finish on the spitfire and the pilot figure.
Thanks for the comment and have fun with the kits 👍 cheers
Una consulta ,la ventiladora que tamaño seria ?
Hola, usé un ventilador de computadora de 90 mm.
My uncle was with the 84th infantry division (Railsplitters) in the bulge at manhay
Excellent work you made it look easy
Awesome build. I had been wondering about the quality of the ICM kits. Particularly this MK IX Spitfire.
i love this style of vid!!! the highliting and arrows really help with understanding scratchbuilding as i would consider myself an intermidiate modeler and im trying to learn scratchbuilding and many techniques in this video! also how did you make the tire marks??
Thanks for the comment, glad you like the video. I added wood-glue to the base and sprinkled sand into the wet glue, it stays wet for a while, so you can roll a spare wheel (or toy, coin, washer,...) into the sand. Measure the distance between the 2 wheels to get the correct spacing. Hope this helps, cheers 👍
@@stevenshobbychannel thanks!
Hi Steven! Just curious, but where did you get this kit? I've been looking for a while and I haven't been able to find one online. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, I bought it quite some time ago from a local model shop, but you're right, it seems indeed more difficult to find these days... You can keep an eye on 'Scalemates' (www.scalemates.com/kits/airfix-a05120a-messerschmitt-bf109e-4-e-1--271978) : in the 'Marketplace' section some people might put up there kit for sale. - Also look at the 'Product timeline' and you can find the same kit with a new box-art and decals. Hope this helps, Cheers
@@stevenshobbychannel Thanks a bunch! I'll keep my eye out for it.
omg dude i wish i have the tools to make this awesome setup. Congrats. You have a new follower.
Thanks for the kind words 🙏 cheers
Very impressive...👌
Have you considered a scroll compressor?
Hello friend, great job. Which of the two models you used has the open engine? thank you
Thanks, all of the ICM bf109 kits come with the engine and panels 👍
Great project! You do an amazing job with the MDF, getting it so smooth! I have something similar in mind for a UV Curing Station but will use a bathroom fan timer switch so I can turn the light on for a specific number of minutes. And plan to add a switch on the door so if the door is opened the UV light will automatically go out.
Sounds good 👍 I will most likely update it as well with a timer and switch from an old microwave in the future. Goodluck with the project, cheers
Great design!
Beautiful project! 👍
It is fantastic what you built for your resin printer, I do have to say that it seems a bit overkill for such a small printer. 10 inch printers are almost standard now, like my Creality Halot Mage 8k. But overall fantastic
Yes 😅 it looks indeed a bit ridiculous for such a small printer, but it does the job. I wish I could use a bigger printer inside the house but at the moment it's just not possible... Thanks & cheers
Really cool project, thanks for sharing!
I swear: The way of explaining what you are doing and why is awesome. I really enjoyed the video. Top notch quality. Also: You are the first, who made a video of an enclosure made really good. The video is awesome and your projects are 100% the same as mine, funny enough in most cases also at the same time. You helped me out a lot in the past and also in the future. Thank you for your service
Thanks for the kind words, it means a lot 🙏 I don't have much time to make videos and sometimes I wonder if it's even worth the effort, but if it's actually helpful to someone then that's great news, thanks for the support & cheers 👍
Fantastic ideas. good luck in the future.
Great looking build!
If you are going yo screw down the plexiglass you might aswell use some clear caulking/hot glue to make it air tight. Plus not sure how well filters actually work but be a goid idea to properly vent the room/nuclear bunker the printer is located in. Wouldve been more user friendly if you made the enclosure with a front door accessable with some struts. But cool job. Oh wait no filter on the fan? Then whats the point?
You can see the output of the fan connected to some sort of hose at the end of the video. He is probably blowing the fumes to the outside, so no filter necessary (for work safety at least). Sealing anything is obsolete if you are constantly sucking air out of the case, the lower pressure inside the case will suck air in, not letting the fumes out (thats why he can use it with open doors for cleaning).
Hi guys, yes I forgot to mention this in the video, but I have a PVC pipe on the left side which vents outside (it goes up), it would indeed be pointless without that. Sealing is not important when the fan is running, but it helps when your not printing - to keep some odour (from tools, uncured prints or bottles etc) inside. Thanks & cheers 👍
@@stevenshobbychannel are the fumes that bad? I low key enjoy the smell of it😳 always get a great night sleep printing my FGC9mkii's. But her different strokes for different ff322wi32wszfhbns2fn.y4sz,x mm763w2qzzdfgmmy4 Right? Oh just noticed no filter on the fan? Then what's the point?;
Great point on the caulk, I feel the same way. For the filter, I had assumed he was venting outside his bunker.
Glad I watched this before I started my build. I was going to make a container for my 8 gallon compressor out of 1/2" plywood and was simply going to make a box lined with sound deadening material and two holes mounted for exhaust fans in the back. Your method has a little more science involved with the different channels does this make a big difference in lowering volume? My compressor is already a quiet one that goes to about 68db max without a container. Is mdf better for this purpose? My compressor weighs like 50 lbs so I thought i would need something sturdier. I also had thought of just drilling a hole and using a rubber grommet for the power cable and hoses.
Hi, reducing sound can be quite complex, but in general the heavier the (box) material will be, the more it will reduce sound, MDF tends to be cheap and heavy, so that's why I used it. Plywood will work too, but 1/2" might be somewhat on the thin side though (perhaps add an extra layer of mdf on the inside?). The channels help reduce some of the direct sound-rays, imagine someone shouting directly at you or from behind the corner, the difference might be subtle but all small things help. hope you project will turn out nice, cheers
@@stevenshobbychannel thanks for the reply. I'm getting closer and closer to putting this together. What thickness sound proofing material did you go with? I was thinking 1 inch all around.
Yes, the stuff I used was about 1inch indeed, have fun 👍
@@stevenshobbychannel Hey so I finally did this for myself thanks for the info and suggestions. I used 3/4" plywood btw. I was wondering is it ok if the sound proofing touches the hot parts of the motor? It says this stuff is flame retardant and it touches the top of it so it is not blocking any air flow areas. Just wanted to be safe.
Hi, great to read you've finished your project, to be safe I would cut out a small bit around the hot parts, so nothings starts melting or creating toxic fumes etc. It's always better if you can keep a space of about 1/2" around hot areas. Perhaps heat a small left-over piece with a hot iron or something to see what it does... Cheers
Great models, and lovely videography as well. These videos must be a lot of work to make! Thank you 🙏. This really makes me want to build another plane, I’ve only done a spitfire but it was really fun.
Thanks for the comments, means a lot! Yes making the videos takes a lot of time unfortunately... Hope you'll start a new model soon, have fun and cheers
Great video!
Thanks! Glad you like the video 🙏
No mention of the drain valve in the tank - they always supply a 1/4" brass valve which rarely gets a mention. Replace the valve with a push-in elbow fitting & run some flexi line outside the box & fit a ball valve to it. The pressure will force any water thru the drain port & as hot air holds more moisture best time to vent is when you start up the compressor and it's at it's coldest.
Thanks for the tip, I mentioned the drain-valve in the previous (repair) video, but it didn't get any love in this one. Draining the tank is indeed a pain at the moment, I also have to 'angle' the compressor because they didn't mount the drain-valve at the lowest point. Cheers
@@stevenshobbychannel spent 20+ yrs in Compressed air industry - seen many things. Pharmaceutical Co. had there compressor in same room as a Boiler n wondered why they were having a water problem in there lines :) Sewerage plant said there instrumentation valves stopped working but the air is clean - I tapped the bowl on the Filt/Reg & it wobbled - full up with very clean water :) Panel Beaters do things on a budget - to minimise water many feed the air line via tea room fridge then back out to workshop. Fridge is always running so why not I guess - crude but it works.
Классная работа!
That's a great one! But, do you know what is the difference in dB units? I'm considering creating something like this myself. Will rockwool (covered with fabric) do as an insulator, or would this not do as well?
Hi, I haven't got something to measure the dB accurately, but I prefer the compressor when it's inside the box lol. - Rockwool is very good for sound insulation, but only in combination with a solid surface (wall/wood panel), it's quite dense and will dampen the sound a lot, but sound will still penetrate through, so ideally you still want to build a box and add the rockwool to the inside... For a box; the heavier the material the more it will reduce the sound (wood-brick-concrete...) Cheers
A small box would work for iwata ninja jet !!!?
Yes for the Ninja jet you could make the box smaller, but make sure you still have some extra space around it for the heat dissipation. Cheers
Amateur.
Thanks xD
Manhay was epic. The USA 31st Tank Battalion spent time in the village of Fays on the north side of Manhay for a few days, shelling the SS I hear. Cheers from Indiana, USA!
I would start with an ulta-quiet compressor like the California air tools .6HP model for airburshing. You can buy these type of compressors <60dB out of the box. You're trying to defeat a lot of noise here.
Интересная сборка! И обзор наборов тоже получился)
Very helpful, especially the part about bringing in cooling air.

Thanks, yes you're right, I might add that in the future 👍 cheers
Really well designed and executed.
Great painting! Looks the business.
Great builds!!
This is the best compressor enclosure I have come crossed. Great job on the engineering and the success of having a quieter place while airbrushing. I would love to build one for myself. Any chance you would be willing to share measurements?
Thanks for the kind words 🙏 you can find some measurements in the final seconds of the video, cheers
Wow how did I miss that? Thank you very much!@@stevenshobbychannel
Very helpful, especially your approach to bringing in cooling air. Thank you.
Quality. Brilliant.
I would of removed some materials from the back of the cabinet to clear the bolt in the studs and flip the bracket so you only see the flat side the cabinet rest on. Great work tho
Yes good point, at that time I was planning to mount a tool and paint rack under the cabinet which would have covered the bolts, but I never did, thanks and cheers 👍
