I've was a Kiss fan like you wouldn't BELIEVE! Sooooo many posters and album covers in my wall you couldn't see the paint! If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have picked up a bass! But AFTER ALIVE 2? FORGET IT! And this? Mannnnn, this is just terrible! Nice guitar, and guitar tones, etc, BUT, this is bad!! This is why I hung it up on them!! Well, one of the reasons anyway.

I love Ace guys. He is indeed interesting, and he has obviously influenced a lot of players...But after the first album with KISS, he did erode as a player because of drugs and booze. I mean he has openly admitted that he doesn't know much about music and that he is always just wingin' it. He admitted in one interview how he barely knew enough to make it over the finish line musically... Its why you hear him repeat the same old scale all the time.... I read comments here and in other places, about how HE made KISS tho. Guys, that is simply not true. Paul and Gene, and Tommy Thayer and others had to play a lot of the parts you guys hear on those records because Ace was just out of it or simply wouldn't show up for recording sessions. His solos are to me very flat, stiff sounding and kind of anti-climatic. This is not an insult. Its just more of a disappointment to me as a player and a someone who used to idolize KISS as a little kid. You see, I study many guitar players and have been influenced by many. If there is anything that I might have borrowed from Ace is his unison bends he does, how he slides up the notes bending one string to match the pitch of the higher notes....But he does that in many songs he plays and I don't find his solos very melodic. He has some ok riffs I think, especially back in the early days. I feel he had so much more potential though. And I really wanted him to bounce back big. I wanted Ace to become what Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Lee, Steve Vai, and Van Halen became to me as guitar icons... I think on this video, Ace looks a lot better, a lot healthier and happier for sure. But dont say he "made" KISS and that he was the back bone to that band. Because he was a more of a stumbling block who doesn't even remember many of the incidents that happened or things he did! If you look up all the live shows from the mid 70s up till the "reunion" you can see how he was just not playing well at all. The interviews are hard to watch too... I love Ace and I respect what he has done, but I do not consider him a "guitar god" Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert, David Gilmore, Jeff Beck, even Prince! those guys ARE guitar Gods! And NO, ACE did not play better as he drank more! LOL are you serious right now??? you dont play better or get better as you kill more brain cells! you have slow reflexes, and poor sound judgment, your perception changes for the worse! LOL
