Many of you probably did this from those who use kayaks as a fishing tool seriously. You will probably never do this again. But there are very few people who posted such a warning report that saves the company that makes fishing kayaks from stealing our money. Thank you.

He overloaded the Canoe over powered it he had so many things wrong going against him this isn't an aluminum boat. People think Kayaks or canoes just because it floats now they can go next to a cargo ship and put a 40HP outboard on it lucky he wasn't in a bigger lake. thanks for sharing it will educate people also always wear your vest guys. Are you kidding me, you're trolling motor was dragging the whole time, number one: HORRIBLE for the transome you have the trolling motor on, and the trolling motor Number two: your speed would have increased SUBSTANTIALY, without the trolling motor dragging in the water!!!🤦‍♂️

Thanks for sharing this, i am new to motor-canoeing and looking to learn all i can. I went to the hardware store last night and got 2 sheets of XPS foam insulation, and i'm going to use that to make some flotation blocks for the inside of my canoe. My motor and batteries weigh about 50lb, so i used aquarium tank math to determine the dimensions of a foam block i'd need to displace 50lbs of water, thus keeping the canoe afloat if i capsize or swamp it. There are ready-made flotation bags though that the whitewater cats use, they fit neatly up into the bow. The problem with that, for motor canoes, is that we usually have ballast up from to keep the bow down, and we need the stern area clear for our gear.

  • @eccentricsmithy2746

It was that outrageously stupid tiller extension that folded and allowed the motor to turn sharply. That is the dumbest thing ever invented. If you didn't have an extension that had a hinge this wouldn't have happened. The motor turning sharply and abruptly is what rolled the canoe.

Funny as hell. Not laughing at you - but with you. Here's some physics on canoes/scanoes: 1) You cannot defeat certaain Rules of Physics. They are constants. 2) maximum hull speed on a typical 17ft canoe is veryu near 6 to 7 mph, depending on the shape of the bottom, and the stern. Yours is a scanoe with a teenie weenie transom for a motor. The difference between that transom and a more common double ender is virtually nothing when Physics is applied. 3) As a canoe approaches max hulll speed, they DO NOT PLANE. Rather, they sink by the stern gradually until they become unstable. In your case, the stern squatted enough at 11mph to force the motor into the mud. 4) The faster you go, the more the stern sinks. So, don't exceed max hull speed in shallows. Get a side mount for the motor that allows you to be in a more natural driving position, and a better control position using the tiller extension. This applies to ALL canoes. The transom mounted motor is a capsize waiting to happen. In your case, you werent able to recover from the sudden change in torque due to the awkward control angle. Put it on the side and forward about three feet. You'll be very glad. To take full advantage of the power , you need a different boat, my friend. A jon, or a Grumman Sportboat, which has a real transom and can actually plane without squatting. Have fun.

if you were sitting closer to your motor, you would have had enough time to react to that by slowing and tilting the motor which should have prevented this from happening! Imagine that happening in a larger vessel going faster.. you need to always be prepared for these things to happen, and if you don’t know the waters well or if there’s a chance of hitting rocks or logs, proceed with caution.. could end catastrophic at higher speeds you were lucky! Thankyou for posting this, hopefully others can learn from this
