From atop the lofty heights of the food chain, Atlatl Bob educates and entertains in this student film about the weapon all of our ancestors used: the Atlatl. Three atler egos collide in this professionally shot and edited short.
The fact that this video was required viewing for my college level Anth class delights me more than words can express.
Love this video!
It might appear there's some correlation rather than causation... bow and arrow is just a product of technological advancement. It would have been used sustainably for many thousands of years.
Good lord I love this. I feel like this is a Bizarro version of a Steve Brule video. I never had considered the acceleration resistance and wave-forms of -why- the atlatl is such a dope piece of tech, just accepted it as a superior projectile platform. Thanks for the brain-food!
This video,in composition, mood and editing was stellar for it's age and it's quality coupled with such a low view count is hereby declared a bonified slept on classic... Just like the actual Atlatl itself. *Stamp*
*_History of bows please_*
Did you listen to the man at the end of this video? You bring him that question and you fixin for an atlatl up da ass.
Go climb a tree. See how long you last without the civilizing effects of religion and taxes. Try making a RUclips video. FCC won't broadcast your nonsense without wetting it's beak.
Это видео настолько же старое, как сам атлатль.
I never expected this to be shown in a College class. Very good video.
I liked this!
Nice ROTFLMAO!!
HAHA Thank you for getting me through this anthropology lesson haha
I was 5 years old when this video was posted
I wonder what would’ve happened if we never made the bow
For man has invented his doom First step was touching the moon ~Robert Zimmerman
this shit is beyond funny and informative. zteo my favorite things
Besides bullsh..ting about the Golden Age and harmony with Nature - awesome.
ya had me till yall talked about my bows, piss off ,ill outshoot an atlatl all day
Hey it’s Atlatl Bob!!!!!
I have seen an African atlatl. That was different to that is introduced here. Dart was short (40cm) and thick,t had heavy, Ten cm length brass point, and on the othed end was another conical point, which accomodated to a conical hollow in the throwing tool. that tool was supple, flexible thin and light weight. instead of the dart's suppleness, tha throwing tool was supple. That was much more compact, than those long darts.
cool!!
Love it.
Atlatl bob can I buy one of your Atlatls
Well considering the oldest bow ever discovered was only 15,000 years old which is around the time the people of the fertile crescent discovered agriculture during the Neolithic Era so I can see why this guy feels this way about the bow also another interesting fact is that the oldest bow found in the America's is only 3,000 years old yet they have found Atlatls way older than that in North America which means the bow didn't make it to the America's till 12,000 years after it was invented but it also makes since that the bow would only be 15,000 years old because that's when animals got smaller, faster, and more paranoid so a bow would be more useful in that situation since it's more stealthy

The spring energy of a bent atlatl cannot be the whole picture of the physics because atlatls also increase the throwing length of thicker shafts of throwing weapons.
yup leverage is also a big deal
we watched this in school today
he never says why bows are bad
*T h a t ‘ s s t u p i d*
LMAO, Fuck the Bow and Arrow xd
2019 anyone?
i think this may be satire, cant really tell though
My buddy ordered an atlatl frim this guy last year and he never received it. Bob stopped replying to his emails and now hes out $200
Dial atlatl predates the bow and arrow by over 13,000 years. Don't get me wrong I love the bow and arrow but the atlatl came first.
Hilarious.
This is a actually hilarious
I agree: religion and taxes suck but the atlatl is awesome. I have an atlatl made by him. It is much fun and a work of art.
I h a v e t o t a k e a l e a k
I love this guy
That guy nailed the civilization shift!!!
Is it me, or does the narrator sound a lot like the character Ron (the libertarian) from "Parks and Recreation"?
Right on Brother!!!!!!!!
a wee bit crazy
Don't send him money
Atlatl bob is a thief. I sent $200 to him for his atlatl & darts & got nothing in return
Phillip Coomer you know that there are actually two people who are known for their atlatls named bob right?
I got mine
"Humans need to throw things!" And "A sh*t load of groceries." Omfg XD
4:01 as a hobbyist spearchucker myself i have to simply disagree with this sentiment. there is vast evidence of ancient man vastly altering his environment by taking much more than nature could replenish. need evidence? take for example how the atl atl fell out of use as no longer were there large game to hunt. instead humans developed smaller and more accurate weapons to deal with smaller and more agile prey. we just rode the gravy train of slow, massive game too long, enough to completely change the type of land dwelling prey.
I don't believe they eradicated mega fauna but perhaps our hunting pressure , warming climate , and probably slower and lower birth rates all contributed.
Religion is the biggest scam in the entire history of humanity .
John Riggs: What's this about pink sheep?
How is this 3 alter egos?
+Siiri Cressey *atler
heidbrain What does that mean?
In the description, it is spelled, a-t-l-e-r instead of alter. I assumed you referred to the description.
Great video!
