  • @FizzleFX
    @FizzleFX 9 месяцев назад

    2:00 purify? uhm no. Ants use outside water - its fine. So is regular tabwater as long as there is no chlor in it! (i heard americans do that?!) ... in fact; if you drink filtered water exclusively you will thin down your blood and wash out all those minerals regular (and tab) water contains. We humans are so crazy and think perfection is one single answer. Nope. Life is messy.

  • @FizzleFX
    @FizzleFX 9 месяцев назад

    5:10 most species do just fine at room temperature but if you have (depending on species) 26~28ish degree it can cut several weeks from the egg>worker process. I also read it makes sense to time those heaters so its a bit cooler at night. Saves energy and the pets know its time to slow down a bit.

      Keep the queen fed or she will eat the larva, and as soon as the eggs hatch into larva start feeding them.

    A brilliant share, I don't have this species although mine is similar, Diacamma is my species and it was great to see your ants passing sugar water to each other. These ants don't have a social stomach so they have to carry the liquid back in a drop held in their mandibles. Great to see that happening. 👍👍👍👍

    Nanitic , minor worker and major worker. Then the royals elates male and female plus. Queen. How many cast they have?

  • @ColossalSwordFormAndTechnique

    I’m wondering if in the future. Us ant keepers would be successful at keeping two queen ants of the same species. Like two Messor Structor queens with their own separate nests. And try to breed their sons and daughters with the other queen’s colony. Would that be possible? 🤔

    I wouldnt reccomend taking off the glass completely. How did you put the glass back on without crushing the workers? It would be impossible not to. And you risk crushing the queen if she happened to be on the rim where you attach the glass. It easier to have a backup glass and slide one off as you carefully slide the new glass on

  • @ColossalSwordFormAndTechnique

    Nice. I live in America. But I got myself a Messor Structor queen ant colony legally. The seller was in USA. So yeah 👏 So far, they seem much easier to keep than my dying queenless Camponotus Pennsylvanicus ant colony.

  • @ColossalSwordFormAndTechnique

    I learned the hard way. My queen camponotus pennsylvanicus died. I gave them an acrylic nest. They’re formic acid sprayers. So they require sand and or material that absorbs deadly poisonous gases from their formic acid. And or mesh for the gas the be released. Acrylic nests usually have no oxygenated meshes sadly ☝️

    I wonder if it would be feasible to use a very thin (thinner than the ants can fit through) second layer of glass or plex on the inside that could be slid out and cleaned without having to remove the glass completely and disrupt the colony so much all the time?
