The Lost Temple: Amazing Low-Tech Tank for Neocaridina Shrimps. (Aquascape Tutorial)
In this step by step guide I build an amazing Aqusacape for Neocaridina davidi "Blue Jelly" The highlight in this scape is a Buddha statue that I would like to use for the layout. The goal is to create a layout that looks like a sunken temple that is slowly being reclaimed by nature.
The scape is an absolute low tech aquascape and can be operated with minimal technology and requires very little maintenance.
It is also intended to create an ideal habitat for Neocaridina shrimps. If you would like to support the channel, please subscribe to the channel and hit the like button!

Kickoff project DIY shrimp breeding rack for Caridina/Neocaridina (Part 1)
I have a no water change walstad tank and my red rili shrimps have been breeding like crazy for 9 months now! Now I'm trying to throw PRL caridinas in there, it is my hope that my parameters can handle both of them :P I have some hope because my amanos are now berried in the same tank, but they are much hardier
Hey dude, thanks for watching and sharing your experiences. 😃Yes for Neocardina and and Amanos walstad works fine. I also have no water chance tanks like that. Regarding the Caridinas it depends on the water you are using. According to my experiences it is very hard to keep them if the paramters are not ideal. They are also more sensitive regarding high nitrate levels. But if you have densely planted tank and do not feed too much it should be fine.
VERY-GOOD EXPLANATION VIDEO :) THANK YOU FOR SHARING :) THANK YOU FROM ISRAEL :)
Thank you for watching and your feedback!😃 I am glad that it was helpful! ☺️ Greetings from Germany to Israel!

Thank you for watching and your nice comment! Much appreciated!☺️ Nice to hear that it was beneficial and you could follow my German English.🤣
@@PTAquaVision-mj3yp It has inspired a new build. Your English is better than many who live here, my friend 😁
That's always nice to hear that a video encourages people to try a new build. What are you planning?Cool I speak English regularly but I have never lived in the US or UK for a longer time.😊
Such a great video, I am hoping to keep shrimp and this is very helpful. You are very easy to listen too 🦐
Thank you so much for watching and the feedback!😊 you can do it! Just start with a easy species like red cherry or snowballs.😉

@@valeriytroshin Thank you for watching and subscribing! You are my hero! 😃 to be honest it is really hard work to reach 1000 subscribers if you do not have a background in creating videos. 😅
@@PTAquaVision-mj3yp I'd like you to know that your hard work is very much appreciated and valued. I'm glad that I found your channel.
My 15 gallon, deep sand substrate, aquarium for my Red Cherry Shrimp is going nuts at the moment. Very heavily planted with a wide variety of rooted, rhizome, and floating plants make for the perfect environment for Neocaridina Shrimp. I feed to tank twice a week with a wide variety of dry and frozen food and a wide variety of leaves and botanicals to grow the biofilm and foodweb on. There are over 50 babies at this point with no signs of stopping. Just goes to show what an initial group of 15 shrimp can produce.
Thank you for watching and commenting.😀 Sounds great! Nice to hear that the shrimps feel confortable in your tank.👏it is impressive how fast they can multiply in an ideal environment.
@@PTAquaVision-mj3yp Thanks dude. I'm a living room hobbiest from Northern Michigan right on the shoreline of Lake Michigan here in the US. I've watched quite a few of your videos and they are very insightful and full of great information. I haven't kept any species of Caradina shrimp, because our tap water is quite hard, but I do have a couple species of Neocaradina and quite a few Amano Shrimp scattered about my five tanks. I only have one dedicated tank for my Red Cherries but I have plans for a nice Neocaradina Shrimp breeding rack in the near future. Keep up the good work and keep your fishy and shrimpy friends close🎉
@@danielingalls8980 Hey nice to hear that even people from the other end of the world find my videos helpful.😊 I have the same problem that my tap water is much too hard for caridinas. That's why I have to use remineralized RO water, which works great but is of course a bit more work. That sounds great with the shrimp breeding rack. 👍I wish you every success with it!
great job sir! thanks much
Thank you so much for watching dude! I am so glad it was helpful!😊
RainWater is allways the go than Tapwater 😀
Thank you for watching and commenting!👍To be honest I have never tried using rain water. But as long it is no acid rain I guess you are right and it should work. 😁

How can anyone be a master of animals in only 33 minutes.... Dude I understand if you say 1 year maybe.... WTF totally crazy IMO to expect fast or instant results. That is like saying people can learn a language only spending 1 hour a day... like no how many kids spend 1 hour a day learning their native language?
@@donaldlyons17 Hey dude thank you for your comment. I understand what you are saying but of course this is only a theoratical basis.an this is what I want to provide with this video. A comprehensive guide packed with all the knowledge I have and experiences that I have made to support people on their way to becoming experts. Of course you will not be Master only by watching this. As you have already mentioned it is all about practice. 👍And this is my primer to start succesfully in the hobby. After all, we are talking about animals here and as few mistakes as possible should be made. Learning a language is in my opinion a very complex task. Look at me I have been learning English for many years and you still hear the German accent and I am probably still doing a lot of mistakes. 😀 Also the harsh truth is that no one will watch your video if you use a boring standard title. That means hours and hours of work for nothing.Especially if you start from scratch. I hope it is now a little clearer to you what the intention of the video is.😊
Lovely video! Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching and the feedback!😃 I am very pleased that you like the video!
Subscrided!!! good information, I hope you can reach more people!!!
Thank you my friend. Nice to hear that the video was beneficial.😊 Thank you for watching and commenting! This helps me a lot to reach more people.👍
Why is aqua soil a better choice than regular inert aquarium gravel? For substrate and in the filter. Is the soil just to promote algae for the shrimp to eat? Thank you👍
Also what makes the filter box better then an undergravel filter for the whole tank...move from tank to tank I suppose?
Hey in this case aquasoil is ideal because I wanted to keep cardina shrimps. The soil lowers the ph to a value between 5.5 and 6.5.this is ideal for these soft water shrimps.for neocaridina shrimps aquasoil is not required.in this case it only makes sense for an aquascape with a lot of plants.
You can check out this video ruclips.net/video/XbEid2JJtHA/видео.htmlsi=2BrVb95XebOHlLwv This is a 15 min video about UGF boxes. The probably biggest advantage is the easy replacement of the soil when it is depleted and the flexibility.
Lol
😄

Danke fürs Anschauen und kommentieren!😊👍
Great video, i have been out of the hobby for like 5 years. Looks like there is only amazonia v2 is aviliable now, is it still good to use for caridina breeding? i have heard it's not as good as the original one
Thank you for watching and commenting my friend!😊 I guess both are nutrient rich soils which are ideal for plants as well. As far as I am informed the nutrient composition is slightly different. V2 has less nitrogen for instance. But I guess both will work fine. For pure breeding tanks I personally prefer soils with less nutrients.
@@PTAquaVision-mj3yp Thank you! which one do you preferer for cardina breeding?
For my last builds I used Environment Aquarium Soil from GlasGarten. It has less nutrients and so far all shrimps feel confortable and breed a lot. 😀 but I guess most of the soils are good to use. Some like the one I use or Shirakura Red Bee Sand are better for pure breeding tanks and some of the nutrient rich are ideal for planted tanks! Have a great day!😀
Came for the shrimp. Stayed for the accent. Danke! 😊
Thanks for watching and commenting. 😊 I'm very pleased that you like the German accent. That's probably the only thing I can't change about the channel! 😀
Such a thought. To make sure that the substrate does not get into the water, is it possible to put a plastic bag on top of the drainage?
Hey thank you for watching and your question. 😊 you can put a fine mesh (like flyscreen) or filter floss on top of the drainage layer.a plastic bag is not good because the water cannot go through it and you will get a swamp.
@@PTAquaVision-mj3yp Thank you. We are waiting for new videos about crabs.

Love this informative video
Thank you my friend!👍 I am highly delighted that you find the video beneficial.😊
The bigger aquarium, the better. 10 l minimum, 45l ok.
I would reccomend starting with a small number of shrimp, because If something goes wrong, there will be less money thrown away.
Hey thank you for watching and your comment.👍 Yes that's true the larger the better. Unfortunately not everybody has enough space for a large tank. That's why I tried to provide some guidelines. 45 l is my breeding tank size. This works perfect for me. For beginners 60l ist probably the best size provided you have the space.🙂
In my experience it should not be less than 10 shrimps. In too small groups they do not feel comfortable. But you are right....if I start a new tank with more pricy and sensitive caridina shrimps I also start with a smaller group. But 10 shrimps is a small group for me 😊
@@PTAquaVision-mj3yp It depends, because If someone îs a beginner, they should try with small numbers, and more resistant shrimp. It took me there tries with the red cherry, before i was albe to breed them.
Yeah always start with an easy species. Have you ever found out was the problem was?
Very nice primer!

Your substrate looks strangely like mine, is it baked eggshells? 🤣
Haha 😀 the substrate I used is JBL Sansibar dark.
Man I want caridina longidigita but I live in Canada and I can't find how to get them, anyone here with any useful pointers? Thanks in advance, at this rate it feels like I might die of old age before I ever get them 🙃
In Germany they are also very hard to get. You sometimes can buy them from private persons for like 20€ a per shrimp.
@@PTAquaVision-mj3yp Man haha that's terrible, I love tiny filter feeding shrimp but I guess maybe someday I will see them. Thanks for the reply by the way. Here I only have cardinals and I have to admit the shipping was rough, not even extra oxygen in the bag, or extra thermal envelope to isolate them from other shrimp. I think we have other ones here in Canada but I am just trying them out at steady 26C with about 28C when the lights are on. I am not sure if the crazy amount of moina, seed shrimp, rotifer, detritus worms in there are a good thing or a bad thing. Like 2 of the 3 dead shrimp that were weakened by shipping got deleted before i woke up and the third one barely had anything left. 15/20 survived and are doing fantastic which is a win in my book, running the sulawesi 7.5 I will probably try to aim for your parameters in the future, right now they are reaching 380microseimens but I did start at 305, could have started at 240, I will go slow and adjust like I saw in one of your videos! 😎 Also great video quality, showing some very nice shrimp. 😄
I will keep my fingers crossed that you will get them one day. Yes shipping can be rough for cardinals. I was lucky and I found a breeder not too far away. I guess all survived the transport but I will never know because they were hiding a lot the first weeks. Btw the breeder where I bought the shrimps also used the 7.5. I guess both salts are fine but maybe the 8.5 is slightly better because it is a little bit closer to their natural habitat. I am pleased that you enjoyed the videos. Thank you for watching!😊
@@PTAquaVision-mj3yp Out of curiosity have you ever tried raising shrimp in darkness? I found through testing that biofilm specific eaters like my spotted hillstream loaches in high oxygen environment with good flow for nutrients distribution over a 6 month period did exceptionally well without me feeding them ever. But they had more surface area than a 1000 gallon aquarium since it was entirely a collection of properly sanded/sized (not just lazy sanding lines accross but very well all around sanded motions with not coarse sand paper) PVC tubing, all to reduce the amount of energy needed for biofilm to build itself, something called the scaffolding part before you actually have the biofilm itself. When done there was no place for an adult to get stuck or for them to even find some sharp edge that could injure fins in the event of teritorial displays, and of course no deadzones(near zero flow) in the entire tank. I mean it was for certain not succesful to stimulate breeding since I am now 100% they mostly breed in calmer water conditions, but damn they were healthy and happy. Also, it is definitely not worthy of display to an audience lol. I did end up giving them away and only kept one in my main tank so it can take care of shuffling the very fine sand. Please let me know if you ever attempted something similar with shrimp, would love to hear about it :)
Sounds really interesting. 👍But I have never tried to keep and breed shrimps in darkness. I always have plants in my shrimp tanks and they woulf not survive this experiment.😀
I love those light blue shrimp. What are they called, please? 💜🙏🏼

BTW can i use stones as gravels for red cherry shrimps?
As substrate for Red cherry shrimps you can normally use what you want. I always recommend a fine grained substrate but also a coarse grained gravel is feasible. Fine grained substrate has some advantages in my opinion.Shrimps love to turn over the grains of sand and left over food cannot fall in the substrate and be burrowed that easy.
