I have recently restored this vintage vacuum tube reel to reel and what better way to showcase its quirkyness than with an equally quirky song from a steampunk setting game, Bioshock!
I absolutely love this game, and for this reason I decided it would be fun to do this :)

To be quite honest I have no idea what heppened there. The meteor smahed into me putting me into a spin while he tried to fly away. The rotation angle was just right the I hit him BANG ON. When it happened in the game I saw the tracer shells perfectly hit his aircraft. The quality is low I was having trouble with the video capturing software.

This was originally a school project for a competition that unfortunately did not work out as expected. The amplifier is already expensive and I did not want to spend another 100 dollars/euros into the power transformer.     Dobrý deň pán Varga. Ak dovolíte otázku : Ak by som chcel sa dozvedieť viacej o reel to reel magnetofónoch, šlo by sa s vami nejako spojiť a niekedy si zavolať? Niečo málo viem, ale keď som začal študovať tieto veci, pochopil som, že to tak úplne nebolo a nie je jednoduché ako som si myslel, ďakujem za odpoveď a toto video je dôkaz o tom, že Tesla nebolo ako sa niektorí smiali že technicky slabé ale bola to dosť dobrá firma na to, čo sa v komunizme mohlo, kam teslu pustili.

      Firma to bola nahovno...konštruktérmi mali vždy dobrý zámer...skoro. Ale vyhotovenie ako z pravidla jak vždy, KATASTROFÁLNE...ale keď sa s tým hrá človek dostatočne tak sa z toho dá dostať parametre zahanbujúce AKAI SONY TEAC magnetofóny...       veľmi pekne ďakujem za ochotu, veľmi si to cením. A s tou teslou máte pravdu, ale aj tak na tie pomery tých chlapov obdivujem, že ako to hrá, ajkeď taký rewox alebo akay mali omnoho viac možností. Jasné zajtra pošlem mail, kde podrobnejšie vysvetlím veci, majte pekné skoré ráno. Ešte raz ďakujem.

    The A77 is MKII not MKIII. MKIII has black front panels not silver. Also the High Fidelity logo is missing on MKIII

      You make the difference by the visual side of things, during service I found that it has mk3 motors (and they are supposed to be there) and other key technical factors that do indeed prove me the fact that this is a mk3 with mk2 looks

    Hi Adam - Thank you for letting me know you have a channel. I am now a subscriber. I am really pleased to see how you use the SMPS and make it successful in audio amplifiers. As we have already discussed, and apparently what brought you to my channel was the video I made on the SMPS. You have done a marvelous job and as I sit here and write to you I am contemplating how to use a SMPS for the screen supply in my project. I just need to find room to install a transformer with a bridge and capacitors to power it. As for me designing SMPS, I will probably choose to just buy them as my interest is in the vintage analog equipment. I am 70 years old and am "old school" as for the love of the design but am willing to in cooperate new technology into my designs and projects. It is young guys like you that will continue to forward the efficiency of these designs. I keep in contact with another gentleman in Italy that I think you guys would really get along well together. He is your age and has the passion for electronics just like you and I do but you fellows could change the world together. I will contact him and maybe you fellows could communicate together.

      Thanks for the comment. Well I found your channel because my passion to tubes themselves soo thats a bit of a surprise I guess :D . (Also youtube recomended you for me since I do watch Mr Carlson who has a LOT OF TUBE STUFF there aswell). Also efficiency in tube stuff? NO WAY :D. (Also I plan to make another video finally about the next HV PSU and the small issues I have been having with the tube amp itself).

I would love to hear about your plans for a version which uses mains voltage. I would also love to see a version of your DC-DC schematic available for purchase. I would easily pay to support your work if it were available. I have easily accessible power at 20VDC 10A which would be more than enough for the tube project I'm looking to begin.       The amplifier is the classic Mullard 20W just a little modified. The point of this video was to prove that you can make a high power switchmode powersupply for the high voltage supply that won't induce noise into the amplifier whatsoever. Unfortunately the powersupply in the video I already decommissioned due to its internal voltage regulator failing (5V for the opamps and 12V for the mosfet driver) fortunately I do have a replacement for it and I have been listening to the amplifier like that for at least 3 or 4 months like that and it works but the controll chip I used isn't really good and the biggest impracticality is that I'm using 12V to step up to 450V rather than directly going to the wall plug and stepping that up. The reason is I don't quite like to work with mains power, it's too unforgiving but I already made a design that is supposed to work on mains power and I just need to order the PCBs and get it working. So the amplifier is no big deal I used the schematic from r-type and the power supply is what really I want to show here. If you're further interested in the project I can tell you more details

      The SMPS has been long decomissioned. It was not safe for operation and it had quote the amounth of problems. I have since then made two more designs with different chips. Two of them work one of it works sort of. I am slowly abandoning the idea of powering the amplifier with only DC and there is a power supply that takes mains (90VAC-265VAC) and boosts that to 500V max. The power supply is isolated. I did not order the boards for that one yet. I also plan to use the UC3845 for a low voltage version (12-30VIN) of the SMPS. (I have one that works but the TL494 spazzes and hisses the switching transformer. Ill see where this will get me.

      @@pepsodentpasta hi, this is my oldest design of all of my SMPS I now am smarter than two years ago and would do it again if it wadnt for the extrene negative backlash I got from people for daring to do this. Firstly my original SMPS was a flyback 12V to 450VDC 60W. It wass terribly inefficient, noisy, had troubles starting up...so on. I now know solutions to all of these problems, but still, its just a puny flyback converter. A push pull fulwave converter would be very fun, but even there problems arive because you have to use a mains to LV supply..inefficient. My advice if up to 50W of power is required I recommend you have some fun and try design your whole controll circuitry.. triangle oscillator, PWM comparator, error amplifier, voltage refference, mosfet driver...will teach you a lot to prepare for proper IC implementation

      Tiszta siker. Csak a probléma a fázis invertorba adódik elöadódik de ez a terv majd le lesz cserlélva tistára. Leg közeleb erösítövel 50W ra tervezek push pull EL34 tejesen csak elektron csövel. A feszultség erösítö EF86ból lesz ösze álítva ami maj továbra vezéreli a fázis fordítót ami kondenzátor nelkul rá lesz kacsolva a EF86 anódjára. Ez be ast elenty hogy nem fog torzítany a alacsony frekvnciákat. A fázis invertor egy 12AT7 lesz vagy 6SN7. Inkáp noval cöet hasnálnák a elöerösítöben és feszultség erösítöben mert akor ugyan úgy tudnám a arámkört ösze álitany mint a MULLARD 20W ami a videóban van. A kulcs kulömség az én erösítöm között és egy mondánam gyakory tól az hogy a magas feszultséged nem trafóval ..legaláb is nem klaszikus trafóval alítom ösze. Megterveztem egy DC-DC convertort amely 12-40V ból tud csinálny akármit 100-500voltig. 450V nál a teljesítmény 60W. A ventilátorok kölöttek aźert mert a prototípus hibás és az arámkör amin alacsony a fesultségy túl vekony volt és a deska melegedet. Végul rá jöttem hogy több hiba van de korigálny lehet mivel a kacsolt trafó (réz ragastóval takart kocka) éléggé túri a rosz körulményeket. A protoípus már nem múködik. Befingot a feszultsé regulátor és már anni hibát javítottam ki hogy meg untam ez egés bekotést ezért csináltam még egyet. Még nics ösze álitva mivel az idó nem volt mert az iskolai év vége volt és volt mit csinálnom :) (meg asztán 17 éves vagyok szóval iskolátol vannak támogatások mert járom a versenyeket xD). A prototípusban minden diskrét volt. Hiba erösíttö pulz generátor és a PWM generátor. Egy szóval-pokolfranc minden és nem volt stabil. A második verzión már a TL494 tervezem hasnálni. A feszultségnek 5%belul kéne lenni 60W allat. Persze ez csak egy próba szóval 450V nál 60W az azér elégé szép 12volt ról. Kicsi könyú praktikus egyszerú. Legaláb is az a célom és sajnos nem találtam egy EBAY kínai szart ami erre képes volna mindig csak nixie arám forrásra találtam. Szóval megtervesztem a magamét. Meglepö hogy nem siseg se nem búg a erösítö de persze elvárható mivel a frekvencia a kapcsolásnak 36kHz tól 50kHz ig mozoghat. Legjob eredmény érdekksen 36kHz nél jelent meg. Szóval az én erösítöm 70% konyeb mint az átlag és ugyan úgy van teljesítményel mint a többi és lehet itet tisztára 12V röl múködtetni. Tervezek ám én verziót ami majd tud múködni rendes feszultségel. Hogy univerzális legyen képes lesz múködni maj 100VAC tól agés 265VAC (pont a világszerte feszultségeg a tolerancióval egyutt). Ami a te erösítöd iletti az én arám forrásom elméletileg tudná kezelni. Mivel a 6C33C kisseb anód feszultségel múködik elméletileg ha nem kellene a fezsultséged emelni szerintem képes volna alacsonyab fesultséged nagyob tejesítményel kiadni. oké tényleg szar a helyes írasom xD Még egyszer slovák vagyok de magyarul csak beszélny megy de angolú tudok est is ast is folyékonyan xD
