      Brilliant!@@sydwynd I'd been watching Stuart and John McGeoch playing them for a few years and they were my guitar heroes when I was a kid so as soon as I could afford it I got one from the Soho Soundhouse. I can remember being terrified someone would try and pinch it as I headed home on the underground. I don't think anyone could have prised it off me even with knives and guns lol. I've hardly played it for 20 years. It's a little bit road worn from 2 decades of gigging but still VGC. I used it through a JCM800 stack for a while and then a fender Stage 185 like Stuart used in early Big Country. It sounded good through anything. I'm really looking forward to restringing it now. Is the 1300 thinner in width to the SG2000? How do they compare, sound, playability. Would love to know your thoughts!

    • @sydwynd
      @sydwynd 11 месяцев назад

      The 1300 TS is a tad thinner than the SG2000. It's basically missing the maple cap. That's why people think it's a neck through instead of a set neck. It's thin enough that you don't get the ridge you see on Les Pauls. From a playability perspective, think Les Paul standard. The neck profile is a little thinner that the 2000 but very comfortable. The ebony fretboard is SUPER fast. My Yamaha SG's probably have the best necks of all my guitars. From a sound perspective, that's really tough since I upgraded the pickups to Seymour Duncans. Reason I did so was that the original Spinex pickups just didn't have enough output for me. Literally, I would take it to gigs and have a noticeable volume drop from my 2000 to the 1300TS. They sounded fine, but the upgraded pickups now match my 2000 much more closely. The other big difference, of course, is the trem. Pervious owner routed the back so you could pull back and have a true floating trem. Works great now that I have it dialed in but bending notes is cleaner on the 2000. Overall, they're both great guitars. But if you're looking at OEM setup, the SG2000 will have hotter pickups, a beefier body and neck, and probably more sustain. However, if you get a good deal on an SG1300 TS, I recommend getting one. One thing to note, the big difference between the SG1300T and the 1300TS is that the 1300T has a rosewood fretboard, is neck through, and has hotter pickups. Hope that's enough detail!

      I purchased it on Reverb. Basically, it's a Squire size body with a Mighty Might birdseye maple neck. Aftermarket 6 point trem. I upgraded the tuners to Fender locking and then built the new pickguard. Tone Hatch vintage pickups and the Obsidian Wire Vintage 54 wiring set. In my book, Tone Hatch are the best bang for your buck in single coil pickups. That set cost me $80. Love Obsidian Wire as no soldering is required and you can get some great options. I have another strat copy with their blender. That allows you to blend in the neck or bridge pickup so you can utilize all three pickups or just the neck and bridge. All the tones!

    Playing guitar for 65 years I got into playing electric guitar maybe when I was 40. After a lot of time in bands I am now back to solo acoustic gigs. Being more of a singer who plays guitar I never got along with the Strat when I borrowed one for a 'sit in' with bands as my hands would often knock the volume. For 15 years I played the telecaster as the volume knob was further back. I sometimes played a Gibson Les Paul for a riff with sustain, but it was horribly heavy for a three hour gig on stage.

    • @sydwynd
      @sydwynd 2 года назад

      My main guitar is a Yamaha SG which weighs about 10 pounds. It's a beast to wear all night. Nice thing about a strat is it's way lighter. I'm working on not hitting the volume knob as I'm used it being completely out of my way. My biggest issue playing a strat is the middle pickup. My hand position is based on 2 humbuckers and I attack the strings basically where the middle pickup is. On a side note, you may want to check out a Brian May guitar. 3 single coils but the volume and tone are behind the bridge. Unique switching system. And a 24" scale length so the middle pickup isn't in the way. Thanks for watching!

      @@hillrwayne I did not use one. I simply connected the pickups to the pickguard and then plugged the leads into the Obsidian Wire system. Super easy. My only real challenge was getting the wires positioned so the pickguard didn't bow up. The leads were long and I was hesitant to cut them shorter. But it worked out.

      If you haven't upgraded the pickups, I highly recommend you look at Tone Hatch pickups. Hand wound, very affordable, and they sound amazing. I have a video highlighting them.

    What did you use to finish the fretboard?

      I sanded it lightly and then gave it a couple of coats of tung oil. Came out really nice. Bit of a satin feel but still get that unfinished neck vibe. Did the same with the body. Just a light stain and tung oil to seal it.

    Is funny, is not straty, is not les pauly, is like the perfect blend of both! Great demo, and such a wonderful unique guitar the red special is!

    At last....a review of this guitar CLEAN. To me reviewing a guitar guitar with loads of overtone or distortion doesn't give you any idea of a guitar's capabilities as they all sound pretty much the same. Thanks for sharing

      I'm totally with you. I make sure to get mostly clean tones when I demo something. Too much overdrive and all guitars sound the same.
