As someone who is turning 28 in October this was all so interesting, and helpful to hear!

I'm 28 and this video did make me feel better about soon turning 30. It's definitely something that I've thought about a lot. I feel like with time things start to settle in terms of my personality and relationships with others. I am autistic and I only recently began un-masking. I feel like it will only get better from here 😊😊😊

If we were villains is such a great book! I love it to pieces as a shakespeare nerd. And the prophet is one I recently got. Leaves of grass is a poetry collection I'm curious about as well. I recently read a book about Artemisia as well, because if it is about her I will happily read it. Bear town is fantastic but yes, emotionally intense. I cannot wait for you to read the rest of the broken earth trilogy and hopefully love them just as much!

Interesting work. On the Gothic theme, the beginning of "How did it end?" triggered "This womans work" by Kate Bush another songwriter using Gothic works and themes. Particularly her first song "Wuthering Heights". Kate was the first artist to directly translate a literary source into a modern rock song rather than use the themes. Anyway, thank you for these interesting ideas.

Belated happy birthday!! And this is such an incredibly open and brave thing to share. I have these dark thoughts too, life can be so awful. And yet the bright moments are so incredibly bright. My “age” is 30. I’m really not sure what’s going to happen for me mentally when I hit that age

I had far too many amazing books in 2023!!! And I really need to get to LotR 😅 it's one kf those that I've left for too long and now I'm incredibly intimidated!

Going back to the beginning when you have already just finished it and start it again -- I absolutely do that sometimes and have been since january but have been a little quiet about it 😝 I loved this is how you lose a time war last year as well too ^.^ The ending was just perfect. Yess fifth season deserves to be on all the favourites list (it was on mine in the year I read it)

interesting review! This is not a book for me even though I am a creative -- mostly because it is not the kind of thing I tend to read (I am a content creator creative and a writer creative. I know those things quite specifically so when I am looking for artsy insightful books I gravitate to ones specific to those two subjects rather than more wide open to art in general) and it sounds like a lot of the indifference people might get from this is because of it being so general? That it can be hard to either relate to or put in practice. And maybe if looking for something more specific it becomes unhelpful. However, I'm also aware I've been a creative for a loooong time and I wonder if this is better to people starting out who have ideas but don't quite know how to form them. Ooh, and I don't mind a bit of philosophy in my reviews as at all 😉

Romance novels are a whole thing so I understand. I loved books 1 and 2 and really need to get to eve brown's story this year if I can. The fifth season is so good D: one of my all time favourite afrofuturism books. So glad you liked the world building and character design so very well. I appreciate the writing so much as well. And I hope you like the sequels just as much! You did a good job reading outside of your comfort zone with the monster romance 👏🏾 Thanking John Milton for inventing morally grey characters :D love it and hearing your thoughts on paradise lost! Aside from uni I haven't had anyone's thoughts on it since. Agree it is a bit "belated" for the invention of misogyny. You did great reading paradise lost in your second language tbh 👏🏾 Sometimes I am surprised by how accessible classics can be. I haven't read the original of doctor moreau and am wondering if I should before getting to this one. But it sounds like a good inspired by/retelling story.

ahh maybe the aversion to spiritual things or the possibility that there is something bigger than yourself keeps you reading this book... and it is difficult to realize that everyone is constantly influenced by his/her environment and inspired by it... it's scary how easy it is to mislead people, such as with advertisements and subliminal messages, maybe it would be interesting to read a book about that, can't think of number 1 right away, but maybe you know Carl Jung? his work is still highly valued academically and he looks at things as they are and also has questions about what it could be like... great review, honesty is appreciated.

I appreciate your honesty with this book, but as an artist myself, I have seen that ideas do come from an "outside source" and if you do not grab the idea, often you will see it out in the world. This can be seen when you have an idea for something, but you don't have the skillsets for it yet, but then suddenly in months or most often years, you see it and think: "damn, I had that idea first". I had this notion when I went to a gallery a few months ago: the artist had made ceramic hands on a rope. I kept staring at it because it looked familiar, but I couldn't remember. Why did I feel de'ja'vu? When I went home, I looked at an old sketchbook I had in art class, and saw that in one sculpture class, I had sketched out an idea of having hands hanging on a string of rope, but I didn't know how to implement it, so the idea just sat in my notebook. And then, years later, I saw it in reality. This isn't having a spiritual notion of the world, but simply being open to how we receive & experience as artists. It's not just visual artists, but artists such as writers & musicians have talked about getting being plugged into something else and they have no idea where the ideas flow. I was reading "Daemon Voices: on Stories and Storytelling" by Philip Pullman and he was talking about this too: "What I seem to be saying here, rather against my will, is that stories come from somewhere else. It's hard to rationalize this, because I don't believe in a somewhere else; there ain't no elsewhere, is what I believe. Here is all there is. It certainly feels as if the story comes to me, but perhaps it comes from me, from my unconscious mind" . I also find it interesting you call it a "self-help book" because that's not how I perceived it. Ruben is discussing the creative process for artists, and has seemed that you started reading this book with already presumed judgments about it. He does use certain words that you can connect with spirituality or "woo woo" (as you call it), but I saw it as more of an open dialog on creativity. I appreciate your commentary on the book, because it is always good to hear good & bad things about something you like. I'm going to have to check out the other recommendations you made at the end, so thank you!

For the first 13 minutes it’s hard to believe you’re an adult. The snickering and laughing like a gossiping teenager that’s trying to get people onside before actually sharing your real problem is very school lunch room. But then at about 13:50 you finally get around to basically revealing that you got your feelings hurt because someone suggested that maybe you aren’t entirely responsible for all of your brilliant ideas… and then all your bitchy and smarmy laughing under your breath up to that point made sense. From then on you made some very good points. And most I’d agree with, but when you spend 13 minutes bitching before finally half stating what’s really irking you, you just come across as immature and carrying a type of insecurity that suggests you know you’re being insincere. 3.5/5 ⭐️ because your criticisms themselves are totally fair. And that’s what I came here for.

We love a good emotional support skull. Agree that previously held prejudices can be overcome in moments of struggle (and otherwise!) I have heard really good things about pride and I am glad it is so good. The themes in bunny sound so interesting! I think people described it as strange and I am worried it is too strange for me?
