What is a 4 - Way Inspection?
One of the most crucial milestones in a basement finishing project is the 4-way inspection. This inspection is a key checkpoint in the construction process, ensuring that everything is up to code before proceeding with additional installations like drywall and insulation. If you're looking to finish your basement in Salt Lake or Utah County, understanding what the four-way inspection entails can empower you to stay informed and confident in the progress of your home renovation.

    Hey Dansie, Ive watched a lot of videos from your channel. How would you go about installing a french drain around a basement walkout ? I mean unless there are walls all around, I feel like having the french drain under the stairs is a case for disaster aka a sinkghole situation happening. Let me know what you think, is casing all 3 walls around the foundation a must ?

    I need to make entrance on side wall. There is around 2 Feet difference exterior ground level and my basement stairs landing area. So i guess i need to dig around 2 feet, but how much minimum width i should keep for railing. There is total of 8 feet distance between me n my neighbour, so max i can go is 4 feet but it will leave me no space to cross over and go to my backyard. Please advise..

    “These are the best lights “ but what are they simply wafer lights? I always wondered how do you get the lights out to change the setting! Putting them in seems easy enough. I have yet to see anyone take them out and/or change the setting.

    • @DansieDesignBuild
      @DansieDesignBuild Месяц назад

      Yes, you can remove them after they are installed. Simply prying on them by hand is enough for the springs to allow the light to be removed. Just don’t have your finger in the way of the spring… or you’ll feel more like a mouse in a trap than someone wanting to change their light’s color. It’s painful the first time it happens, but if it happens to you, you’ll never let it happen twice! Good luck with your lighting project, let me know if your lights have the same sort of spring set up, or if yours was designed differently.

      Yes, look into auto vents. How they work, and where to put them. This is how you’ll be able to vent properly without having to run vent pipe all the way up thru the roof when finishing the basement.

      To make structural connections between structural members yes, we use epoxy. The stairs are not considered structural, and that rebar is not epoxied in place, as it is not required to be epoxied by structural requirements.

    Man my walk out job in bluffdale has been a nightmare. Started in Feb, bid of 13k. Contractor bailed 11k in and half job. 2nd contractor doing a much better job now I have most everything but the door is a 60inch but the cut out was 73" the 72" door doesn't fit. The 60" is the only one I could find. So now I have a huge gap from the existing window on both sides. What to do? I'm 18k in now. Bluffdale

      I’m sorry to hear your walkout has been a nightmare. You can put stucco or siding around the door to fill the huge gap, or you can order a custom door size to fit the opening you have. You could also order a door with side lights, that would really look nice. You’ve got options at this point from what it sounds like to me.

      There are definitely ways to do that. And I agree, everyone should do it. We did not do it on these as the owners wanted to do it later. Plaster is the most common way to go. Stucco also works well and allows for any color you’d like. Painting the walls is not recommended.

    I’ve found a lot of contradicting theories online about vapor barriers and types of insulation in basements. In a Utah basement is it recommended to use faced insulation or a vapor barrier?

    • @DansieDesignBuild
      @DansieDesignBuild 3 месяца назад

      Vapor barrier is put over the insulation in a basement during the original construction of the home. This is put there to keep it from falling apart before the basement is finished. Kids, dogs, and general wear and tear on bare insulation will cause it to fall apart, plus, no one wants to play around or touch fiberglass if you don't have to. When we finish a basement, we cut big holes in that plastic so it does not cause a mold issue, then put the drywall on.

      If you have a high water table, you will need to do an alternate drain type. One that encorperates an electric pump and removes the water, discharging it elsewhere - ideally where the city storm drain system can take the water.
