VW beetle Rear axel seal leaking(replacement)
Просмотров 10 тыс.2 года назад
1968 VW beetle has been leaking on the rear axel, this is the process on how to re-seal the axel. This process is the same for drum brakes. Slight differences, but similar. Give some suggestions in the comments. And hope this helps.
Shipping container Auto shop

Short tour of the shipping container shop, i do all my work out of it. Most of the channel videos will be in the container. It's a great choice for me, since my apartment does not have a garage. I asked around and was able to rent a shipping container. Look around, someone might rent you one.

Something easy to do to make the beetle look a lot better. The whole job took about 5 hours. Well worth the effort.

Vanagon GoWesty fuel filter upgrade
I got some like that but they have a skull in the center. I hooked up all the wires. Love the halo being on when i drive during the day and it flashes to orange when i use the turn signal
Weld back that panel in the central section of the floor panel. ASAP
You should actually pull this video and do one correctly
I did it! Had to watch the video quite a few times, but I replaced the fuel pump and it's running again! The 1-7/8 filler hose seemed a bit big but tightened down fine. My first attempt at installing I cut the 2 small hoses in the back too small.
Took me 4 hours to get my pump removed. I managed to break the filler hose at the last moment.
" . . .so if you want to replace the fuel pump . . ." Brother, Nobody wants to. But this is why we're here. Thanks for the very clear video, now I know what parts to order before I break them.
Great video brother. 1 note: If you still have leak issues like I did. I used both paper gaskets, one on the hub like you did in your video and one on the disc brake bracket. Before you went disc brakes the rear had a plate that drum brake hardware mounted to. We never pull it off, but from the factory there is a seal on it. When we removed the drum brakes and added the disc brake bracket, we need to add a gasket there to seal it. Those disc brake brackets suck, the cast ones are much better. Take a file and run it over the face of the disc brake bracket and you will find high spots around the holes. File them flat. Do that and you will never have leakey seals again. Great job on the video, just wanted to help, I did mine 5 times before I figured that stuff out.
Kudos for doing this job in your driveway, on rocks. I feel you man. Did a K8 to KL swap in my MX3 in similar circumstances. TBH, if I were doing this specific job I'd get a spare engine, go right through it ( recondition the head ) and swap the whole thing in AND do the clutch and waterpump at the same time. You really only want to do this job once...
thank you brother 🙏
Anyone in the future with the reverse lockout issue. It isn't your clutch cable. It's an issue with your shifter itself. The metal plate that gets bolted to the tunnel is what controls your reverse lockout
thanks man that was really clear and concise!!! pls make more videos abt ur mr2 cuz it really helps for a beginner like me working on mine 😌🙏
Awesome thinking with the broom stick! I really don't want to drop my tank- you've given me hope :)
Hoping you can help me diagnose a problem..I bought a 68 beetle that has a disc conversion on the front brakes..when i drive it for the first drive of the day my brakes work fine but after a few miles it feels like i am riding the brakes and the car actually slows down in 4th gear and will come to a slow stop when you push in the clutch..After the brakes cool off then everything is fine until i drive it a few miles then it happens again..possible bad calipers do you think ?
thank you so much for this video. it helped me replace the oil pump in my 4agze corolla.
good shii im next
Question when taking off the old fuel filter, it was in front or closest to the fuel tank when you install the new fuel filter you put it behind the fuel pump? Why didn’t you put the fuel pump closest to the fuel tank and then the fuel pump?
Doin this shit right now
what are the adapters you are using my 1991 mr2 doesnt have them?
Dude! Broom stick handle was brilliant!
Hey Thank you so much - I’ve just brought these for my Beetle … can’t wait to put them on with the new eyelids … ❤🇬🇧
Probably the clearest video on replacing t he AW11 fuel pump but hard to find... needs to be higher in the search results!!
Maybe you shouldn't hot rod it, lose the lame background music too!
I have put these same light in and the left one is blinking and dim any tips ?
Question, so that small part to the left gets eliminated once you replace the new fuel pump?
Yes, left on the video(towards front of the van) small part is the old fuel filter. The new filter is the big grey cylinder.
brilliant video, straight to the point, and you even showed and gave the tool names. thank you so much.
Anyone know what kind of wire the pump uses mine was ripped out which is probably why the fuel pump isn’t working but can’t find anything on jt
What manual are you referring to? I would love to pick one up. ... awesome notch
The plate number almost looks like old plate numbers from the Philippines
Oh man wear a mask
yo u sure the lines to the chacaolcanister is fuel lines?

How does one know the oil pump is faulty?
That for this video, I thought I'd have to remove the transaxle on my 59 bug. Only started leaking when I put the car on jack stands 😮.
I accidentally drilled on the face of the oil pump when i was going to remove the oil seal which was leaking. the drill pushed inside and i didnt notice. drilled a small hole a few mm deep on he side of the pump. hopefully i wont have any issues since i dont think that part is under any pressure or against any metal surfaces. i cleaned the area from metal debris. a mistake i wont make again hehe. It was on a 4a-f engine but it has the same layout.
Thanks! finally a helpful video on this!
I'm just taking off the oil pan but do you have to take all those pulleys off because it won't come off it's hanging on the strainer and everywhere I look it says you should be able to take it off without taking out oulleys or the transmission
Did you remove the plate that covers the transmission, I’m Not sure if it’s show in the video.
dont forget you gotta take off the exhaust manifold to get access to the oil pan
and while youre taking off the exhaust you have to take off the distributor to get access to one of the exhaust manifold bolts
Are the jdm variants the same length?
Most leak due to pinching the seal upon install.
Any ideas if the spacer is stuck onto the axle?
Apply heat to it.
Excellent tutorial...... dreading eventually having to do my 87...... thanks for the info.
Brilliant video thank you, who’s manual is it? It actually looks useful unlike a lot of them👍
The manual is the Green one, they call it the Bentley :)
I wish I had your car!
I can't think of anything uglier on a vintage VW. Well, maybe those '70s conversion front hoods that made it look like it had a radiator grill. Horrendous.
What shift knob is that?
