We have wingspan base collection at home. Do u recommend us any expansion or playing without them is also ok? And ı think new expo come with new game board.

I enjoyed this one but MAN did I want you to play Kakapo, take food and then see your bonus cards you got from it at game end. Then you could’ve played the kiwi to sort of filter your bonus cards, or if you were satisfied with your cards (and with 8 pt site selection expert you should be) you could play the spoonbill. It’s definitely not the safer play but I think at the very least you end up breaking even in the points lost by not laying eggs.

How did you not pick up that Baltimore oriole with mechanical engineer in hand? Especially after grabbing the gnatcatcher it would have been easy to get down.

Have you tried Wyrmspan ? Tried it this week the first time and it seems like a imprivement of Wingspan for me.

Nice game. I agree on the grasslands still being better for the white stork. I’m not fond of the Rufus owl in the starting hand though. It ended up costing you 4 food (paying 1 to keep it) for just 8 points and it slowed you down.

Probably started watching you a few months after this game after you dropped in on the RSPB Twitch stream (RIP). Good memories, feels like yesterday.

Looking forward to a few years from now when you rewatch and react to _this_ video. What a future we'll be living in, with Latin America, Africa, and Antarctic expansions, flying cars, neural implants... But one thing will never change: you'll still have a soft spot for indigo bunting.

Not sure I've ever broken 130 in base game without Raven. For me the most interesting decision was 5:40 in deciding whether to pick up Humming Bird or Egret Regarding Bonus Card gamble: Whiff - 8 Worse - 1 Same - 3 Better - 5 Much Better - 5 Badly punished - 12% Slight punished - 3% Same - 9.5% Better - 34.5% Much better - 41% Truthfully I'd double check opponent's board be pretty convinced I win regardless and shoot for the high score, but pretty sure bonus card is slight +EV and the main factor is if I think variance is good or bad for me given the game state.

taking Mechanical Engineer to start feels like a no-brainer 99% of the time, but Viticulturalist was very reasonable here. and your board ended up two nests short of maxing Mechanical Engineer anyway, so it worked out well!

For the third starting hand ~9:40 ish, I'd actually keep the Cerulean Warbler. It's a bonus card bird which is good in and of itself, but it also synergizes especially with the last two rounds. I'd give up the fish as starting food, play Carolina Wren asap (prob w/ nectar) and grab Forster's Tern and Whooping Crane. Play TBD following cards that come out and what P2 does his turn.

Really like it when you do this, but can you please show the tray before you start picking the birds - was really hard to come up with my own choices before seeing the tray and you picked the birds already, making me biased

Thanks for making this content, it's good! One suggestion: it would be nice if you took 5-10 seconds at the start to cycle through the starting birds, the bonus cards, and the tray before making any commentary on it. That way we have the full context on what we'd do to compare to you before hearing anything.

I'm always glad to see a new video from you. I hadn't thought about keeping the Wren in game 3. It's usually not that strong a play but you're right it works very well in that case. Game 1 - I would have kept the Blackbird and Martin too. I'm not sure if it would have worked better but I normally draw cards 3 times to fill the blackbird unless there's an extremely strong brown power I want to get down sooner. That lets me see more options. I might not have had time to play the Honey Eater with my plan though.

Possible future video content? Strategies for 3 player game - I've been playing for a while but I'm too lazy to get matches, I use the 3 person auto-match system. DIfferences - don't bother participating in EoR's if you won't win, pink powers activating more - and I often win with less than 100pts - maybe it's harder to get a high score in 3 player?

Great to see that you’re still doing this kind of content as well, aside from tournament games.

I actually think you should play the first 1-3 rounds of the every starting hand so its easier to picture what exactly your plan is

ooh this is a great video series! I just watched your first Oceania-board opening strategy video as well, & I wonder what your thoughts are on hedging your bets in your starting hand by keeping a bird for each habitat. for example, in the first hand here, you kept two excellent wetland birds (with potential for Martin to go grassland if necessary) but passed on a high-scoring forest bird in the Great Horned Owl. that's understandable given that there are two decently-scoring forest options in the tray with better food access, but in general, do you follow a certain rationale/rule of thumb (e.g. "I aim to take actions in a zero-bird row no more than once") that makes you more comfortable with forgoing an entire habitat in the opening hand? in online 3-player with the Oceania boards, I feel more skittish about starting without at least one forest bird & one wetland bird in hand (grassland can often wait a bit).

I started playing Wingspan a few months ago and just watching your gameplay was super helpful! I refused to get Oceania until I could consistently score 88+. Felt the barrens/grasslands was always quite strong. Finally got Oceania, first game was like 126, and I immediately felt that the forest is the way to go. At least for my style. Winning nectar is 15 points, and of course big point birds 🤷‍♂️.

36:22 That's a tough decision that I often get wrong - use engine and not get food + play large bird. But with hindsight, maybe it was worth it here? If you got 4 food in one turn, you'd have enough to play both owl (plus forester bonus card) and whooping crane w/ bonus card gamble, and maybe compete with nectar. Either way 1st turn kildeer for 2 games is such a drag, maybe revise house rules?

Really enjoy these videos. I have recently started playing wingspan and these videos are amazing. One request is that if you could show the powers of the bird a bit more often, it would be very beneficial for me.

It's disappointing that you were delt short end of the stick especially being #1 seed. It does seem fishy that your opponent was delt kildeer both games. Hopefully no favorable card draws were given to a lower seed, playoffs should be the same for both regardless of seeding or rank
