CHF Bodybuilder
Добавлен 25 июл 2017
Hey guys, I'm John Hill, and I am defying the odds by attempting to be a competition bodybuilder with CHF (Congestive Heart Failure)! I will be posting videos of my back story, the steps I have taken up to this point to make me think this is even possible, and my progress all the way to the day I get to compete on stage and beyond. My dream for this channel is to inspire people who have CHF and have lost hope in ever being able to live a normal life. I am here to prove that it is not only possible, but it is possible to go beyond normal. Will I make it to the stage or will I end up like everyone says and be hospitalized or worse? Subscribe to my channel and don't miss a video!!
Second Competition - April 14 - City Limits Bodybuilding Competition
I'm STILL alive and competing in bodybuilding! I have not posted since my last competition in September, but I would like to go ahead and share my April advancements! This time it got a standing ovation!!!

I have put together a little video so I can share the song I plan on doing my posing routine to at my next competition. It is important to me to share my story to inspire others that think it is too hard or not possible for them to get in better health, because of a tough condition.

Yes 28 yrs old with pacemaker and thought I couldn't do this much very inspiring
Looking good,
Hello John,. I wanted to email you with my other phone,. and this was all I could find. I wanted to send a picture of the Porsches,. but I got a chance to see you again. You look fantastic. Just like my very Handsome Brother. Love You
Hi brother I'm a pacemaker lifter too I'm 6' 285 now from 325 haven't competed yet but u inspire me thanks
Were to see more of your video’s
I’m getting an DEFIBRILLATOR next week. My Ejection fraction is at 25% I hope to get back to lifting once healed God willing.
I wish you’d come back. I’m 39 and Icd and chf. 39 years old in remission from cardiac sarcoidosis. Back in gym 5 weeks. Finally stable and doing great. 4 years with my device and five shocks, pacing now on standby. I’m nervous about lead breakage. Ever a concern?
I have chf give me a shout out and i work out
Man bro I just got diagnosed my doctor told me not to lift I'm at the gym now with coreg lifting is my best medicine
Excellent news. I will keep watching your channel. And yes the fluid control is tricky. Especially for me, because I love drinking water and juice.
Hi John, thanks for giving me the courage to work out, with weights again. I was afraid I would pull my leads out of my heart. And for many years I would lift weights to maintain my figure. Also I had to be strong for the type of careers I had. So thank you so much. My old childhood heart condition might have resurfaced, but I'm kicking it's butt with church attending and diet. And by the way 222 means I heard that Angel's are around you. And protecting you. Amen to that.
Thanks for posting. I’m really relying on these kind of vids for information. Got my pacemaker in may.
I just had a device installed. How long from installation date did it take for you to workout again?
Continue you on my CHF bro... I been with CHF since 2014 n here in 2021 i found your channel.. I would love to hear more about your journey. It really helped a man in Texas
Hi there. I’m 46 and going through the exact same process. Would you mind sending me a message so I can learn? Really interested in your diet to cut weight. I’m in year 2 with my device.
I haven't seen anything new from this guy. You still with us bro?

@@DarkClaw1976 this shows hes still alive right
I have a question, we’re you nervous or scared to start lifting after having an icd I use to workout a ton but then I got one and I’m honestly scared to start up again it’s been three months
same, i'm scared the lead is gonna break and i have to go through surgery again
I don't think this cat is still alive
I’m 52, diagnosed last year with CHF... heart valves caused my issue along with some steroid use. Meds have me back on point and wanting to get back on the irons. This time healthy approach . I was set for master’s physique and fell ill due to fluid and my heart... it’s really been a depressing time. I’m ready to give it a go to get my physique back!! Your story is inspiring!
hello, i just had a pacemaker on my chest, can i still do bench press?
I have a defibrillator pacemaker 4 years and in remission from cardiac sarcoidosis so I’m doing it now. Just in case you see this. I’m using dumbbells and proper rotating form so I don’t come down too wide. Otherwise I’m nervous about lead breakage but I’m trying my best. I’m 39. Use it or lose it.
Wow man your my inspiration i have story to tell u i was at work an i feel to floor dead my heart stop i was dead for 10 minutes before ambulance arrived i was hospitalized an in medical induced coma was told the cause was ventricular attacka cardia now i have defeibrilator wich i was told works as a pacemaker also really changed my life i try to eat healthy like baked chicken an steak an fish an fruits an vegetables i was told i can work out an do all that i was doing before accident but that i need take it slow with light weights an slowly ease in to work outs so my question is how do u do it cuz i cant just go 90 miles hour to the max righ away i have to like slowy work my heart rate up an slowly bring back down i would appreciate your advice this is so inspiring
As someone who has chf very inspiring
Incredible. This has inspired me today., I’m a believer who has just had a pacemaker fitted. God is good. Finding this video is a move of God. Thank you.
Very inspiring. I’ve just had a pacemaker fitted and I’ve been searching for people who have bounced back. Thank you.
I just got an ICD and I would like advice on weight training
Is this guy still with us?
Nope. He isn't. 😔
He was alive and well as of March 2019 he was in a magazine with his daughter working out.

God bless you I'm dealing with the same thing and it's time to do something about it I'm glad I saw this video thank you
hi there, how long have you had the chf,and how are you doing in 2020?
I am very happy for you😊what were your symptoms before u changed your diet and tried to exercise? I am desperate I am fine for 10mins in bike but then after is horribek symptoms start
I've seen a video about heart health workouts and it said things like running, biking, jogging and exercise involving holding your breath is bad for even a healthy heart. Athletic health officials did a study and found that athletes had 15% of scar tissue on their heart after their events. I was told by physical therapist that power walking is way more efficient than jogging. Try changing up a better way to get your heart pumping without that much exertion. 10min might be too long.
Can people contact you?
Thanks John for your words, I’m dealing with CHF after a heart attack almost six years ago. I’ve discovered the plant-based diet about four years ago and it definitely keeps me way stronger! But the true strength in me is the life force given to me by God each and every day :) You are an inspiration to me, your videos give me that extra confidence to go out there and do the things that seem impossible, thank you!
Hi great video, so inspiring. I had a pacemaker fitted 4 weeks ago. Also (2 stents) 5years ago.Have never stopped going to the gym after the stents, but discovered by accident after visiting a doctor in March this year( chest infection)Ihad slow heartbeat (no symptoms) .I'm back in the gym now walking on steep incline treadmill 130bpm for half an hour. Feel fine. Just wondering when to start doing weights again and what sort? (I've always done weights from a young age, I'm now 71 and miss doing them) Would be so grateful for any advice. God bless John (UK.)
I'm skeptical that God is involved in your physical activity and I noticed you havn't posted in a year and wonder if you're still alive. Take care.
God is involved in everything :). I am awful at committing to doing videos. I don’t enjoy it and feel dumb every time I do it. I am skeptical that people really want to see anything from me...lol. Thanks for asking and, yes I am still alive and in the gym. My heart function has actually decreased by another 20% and it is baffling my cardiologists. I was referred to a world renowned CHF specialists who did much more extensive testing and I qualify for a transplant undoubtedly, but he can’t put me on the list till my outside matches what they see from the tests. I should be way broken down, but still functioning at a higher level than most healthy people. There is no explanation scientifically, so I can say without a doubt that God is doing something unique. I don’t know the reason just yet, but I can only think it is to do good for others. It definitely isn’t for me to just feel good and brag about it, because I really dislike self promotion. Thanks again for checking on me :)
@@chfbodybuilder8564 Thank you for the response and I wish you luck in your continuing journey. *You* are an inspiration to me and I'm sure others out there. May god bless you.
Your EF decreased 20% from ??? What was your EF before it decreased?
No more videos for the past year. Are you still alive or did you drop the body building?
That's what I'm wondering..
To be honest. I don't think he's with us anymore. I check his Twitter as well and it's been a minute since he's been on. Smh. Hope I'm wrong. 😔
He's still posting on his FB page in 2023. Looks happy.
Don't stop making video. Bcoz you may not know that you are hope for many people. And inspiring. Keep it up. God bless you.
Hi there very inspirational videos :) I too have a device mine is an ICD which is very similar, I’m worried about bodybuilding and damage to the wires from compression etc, can I ask do you worry about them? I used to be into bodybuilding before I got my device but slightly worried now, how long have you had it for?
Simon Overthrow if you have had it for more than 6 months, the leads are pretty much scarred into the flesh of your heart. They are not going anywhere. I think the overhead exercises, where you extend your arms up were the only movements that even barely come close to moving a wire, but I can do fully extended pull ups and haven’t seen any issues. I didn’t start working out until June of 2017, so my second pacemaker had only been installed about a year or so. No bad exercises that I have experienced and I feel like I have done them all.
CHF Bodybuilder thanks for that :) appreciate your thoughts, I’ve started back slowly so will see how it goes.
I’ve been working out with a ICD for six years I’m doing all exercises no problems.
I feel so bad that I stepped away from continuing my RUclips videos. I didn’t feel like I was reaching many people and it was awkward doing videos for me. Thank everyone so much for the comments!! I am doing my third show this April and still doing great! God is good!
Awesome video Pal! Just about two months our from pacemaker insertion and was wondering about exercising at all, let alone weightlifting. Although my pacemaker was not the result CHF but from a slow heartrate/flutter, I must admit that I was pretty down about trying to get in shape again. However, after watching your video I was indeed inspired to give it another shot. The caveat to the whole thing is that I am 72 and probably one hundred pounds overweight. But better late than never. So will look forward to following your progress as you work toward a healthier you!
loco2me2 think of the people you would inspire with the rest of your life if a man of your age lost 100 pounds and started working out! There is nothing stopping you! The pacemaker will take a few months to build scar tissue up around your leads, but after that, you can do any exercise you want to do. Just change your eating to a clean low carb diet and start walking on a treadmill to start. You will lose 20 - 30 pounds and feel better, which will push you to the next level. If there is a will there is a way! If the good Lord takes us while we are trying, then we went out fighting and we didn’t let life tell us NO! Heaven is our reward anyway! :). Let’s inspire some people along the way!
@@chfbodybuilder8564 Thank you so much for your heartwarming words of encouragement. I can see why you have the dedicated followers that you do. I plan to hit the gym as soon as cleared by my Doc. This is such an inspirational game changer.Thank you so much for being a leader! Keep up the wonderful work!
Sir i am 25 yr old. I have a pacemaker in my heart. I just want to know that wheatger i can perform weight excercise or not?..... Performing weight exercise or machines hinders the functioning of pacemaker?? Or it is ok to perform wt training without worry
I had my done at 39 . That was 6 years ago. I’ve been working out at least three times a week free weights or machines no problems.

So happy I found your page
I’m 30 with CHF trying not to give up. Trying to reach my goal of 120pounds I’m 360pounds now
Rickie Anne Hammond I’m sorry for this late reply! I kind of gave up on my RUclips thing, but not on staying fit! You can do it, I promise you! You really don’t have to do much more than walk on a treadmill and be very strict in your eating. Most of the weight is fluid, not fat, but if you eat well and often every day, you will watch that stuff fall off. Sometimes slowly and it is frustrating, but consistently following the process and being committed will overcome just about every obstacle. The hard part is to stick to the process when you become frustrated at the scale or the mirror. 240 pounds is a monster of a goal, but 10 pounds 24 times, is something you can shoot for. Stay away from salt, cut out all sodas, drink water, eat lean meats or, if you think it is possible, become a vegan, you will lose weight steadily and feel better than you have ever felt. Listen to your heart and don’t push it too far. Just become Steady Rickie and picture yourself reaching out to me in the next couple of years sporting a bikini and talking about how you train others to change their lives! That will be an amazing story to tell and you would never be able to tell it if you had not reached 360! You have a purpose!
CHF Bodybuilder Many thanks for the kind words and VERY helpful tips. I have started my journey by being low carb under a doctors watchful eye. Also trying some intermittent fasting and giving up meat one day a week and also all soda but Diet Right I don’t drink often. I have been vegan before and loved it. I just have to watch my carbs for the time being because of diabetes but that’s the cool thing about the human body it can change and heal so maybe one day I can more natural carbs from veggies and cut out meat again. ☺️ happy to say so far I know have lost 10 pounds and I have been walking a mile a three to four times a week. I hope this finds you and yours in good health as well. Many thanks from Rickie Anne in Louisiana

I too have CHF. I just had second one installed. Looking forward to working out again. The doctor told me not to work out but I'm not letting this rob me of my life.
Any work out tips for the pacemaker that is put under the muscle? Not alot out there
Hey John, I’m 22 and was on my way to getting my pro card here in Phoenix Arizona but was just diagnosed with CHF. I appreciate your video because it gives me hope!
what is your workout regiment like? what type of weight are you lifting? what do your doctor say about you lifting? I actually have more questions than this. This is fascinating.
Im 38 and recovering from CHF too, been pacing myself back in the gym, eating better and taking my meds. Im was looking for a bit inspiration because in the beginning it was scary as hell but now im confident i could live a normal or a better life. With that said im with you I've subscribed and i look forward to seeing you compete.......
