In this training, Brother Judd gives some help for the “Assess your Learning” lessons as well as the Doctrinal Mastery: Assessment 2. These assessments were never intended to gate-keep who completes seminary. They were intended to help us *assess* how seminary is going. As long as students participate and answer honestly, these assessments and lessons will do just that - help us see things “as ...

Doctrinal Mastery Ether 12:6 | Lesson Gems
Thanks for the ideas :)
Brother Hegemann, thank you so much for all your lesson gems, and I listened to it 3 times. I used two of your ideas, and didn’t have time for any more.
tHANK YOU!
thank you for the great ideas and for sharing your work. It's so helpful!!!
Love this! I'm "borrowing" it :). Only concern I had was that in D&C 27 it actually says the "sword of the Spirit"--even though I did want to focus on the Word of God. That was my only hang-up.
I just found the cross reference in Ephesians 6:17 that says the sword of the Spirit is the word of God! Thank you :)
Hi Austin, I wrestled with that a little as well and debated on using the Ephesians 6 reference instead. The only reason I didn't was the fact that I've noticed a lot of the seminary students have a triple combination at seminary but don't have their Bible. I ended up putting this in the notes on the slide - "I recognize that there are many weapons that could be interpreted from verse 18 “the sword of my Spirit, which I will pour out upon you, and my word which I reveal unto you.” You could talk about prayer (D&C 10:5 and D&C 19:38 as a means to conquering satan and having the spirit poured out upon us. You could talk about revelation being our weapon - President Nelson after all has said ”in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.” You could talk about temple attendance being one of the most powerful weapons. President Nelson has said “In the temple, we receive protection from the buffetings of the world.”) But - for our purposes today, I would focus on the word of God as found in the scriptures and living prophets being the sword we’ve been given to defeat Satan. Hope you had a great class. Thanks for teaching!
@@Austinpw321 I was just going to mention that. Nice job using the footnotes!
Thank you.. I used most of your slides.. I think the kids will love it.. a change from my normal..
I hope it goes well Sister Hunt! :)
Lesson Gem for Moroni 7:20-43????
Brother Hegemann, Thank you SO much for this awesome lesson gem! I used it and it was so helpful. The opening questions about viral video and scripture were really engaging!!! But I regret playing that song! I will be humming it for at least 24 hours! Ech!!!! TAKE was very effective. Also used some ideas from Brother Lammers’ document on Developing a Daily Scripture Habit cuz it worked in seamlessly. Having the kids hunt for the sacrament prayers was great also! And a little eye opening! We’re a little sad to be winding up the Book of Mormon, but it’s instructive to see what Moroni chose to leave for the Lamanites at some future day….including the sacrament prayers. With what little time he had left and the scarcity of plates available on which to leave his parting words. That puts in perspective how important he felt these prayers were. Well…keep those great lesson gems coming!
Ha ha! That's true, the music can get stuck in your head. It's one of the occupational hazards of being an early morning teacher! I sure miss sitting in on your class. I hope you're having a wonderful year.
In my opinion, Moroni 8:25-26 is one of the best descriptions of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It's resonant even disconnected from the child baptism thing and I hope teachers make room for it in this lesson--maybe shortening the child baptism discussion to do so. It describes the gospel as a chain reaction and lifelong process and often gets overlooked in lieu of other gospel-defining passages in, say, 2 Nephi 31 or 3 Nephi 27.
I'm a new teacher and am slowly learning how teenagers think/respond, so thank you for your insights on getting them talking. I'm kind of surprised to hear that they might not have an answer ready about infant baptism! Mormon's stance seems like such a well-known doctrinal position that members really cling to.
@joshuachandler4292 I don't think it's necessarily that they don't know. It seems like it's usually social inhibitions or insecurities that hold them back rather than a lack of understanding.
This is great! Thank you!
Thank you for the presentation. The slide presentation is very helpful. You have such great ideas.
Thanks for the kind feedback. I like to say they're worth what you pay for them. :) Thanks for teaching!
Is there a way to get some of the slides you are sharing on here for my seminary class lesson? I use google slides. That you for your insight it is very helpful. Forget it I figured it out....Thank you very much . I love these ideas
Thanks Heather, I'm glad that worked for you. Best wishes for a wonderful lesson!
Thank you for the great ideas!
I'm a new seminary teacher as of this week and I'm stressing! Thank you for sharing this information! I feel excited now about my class tomorrow instead of worried.
Welcome to the greatest calling and the most stressful, all rolled into one. I hope things went good for you in class this morning. :)
Thanks Brother Judd!
This is PERFECT!!! Thank you for taking the time to share 🙂
Thanks for sharing this with our friends in the Facebook group. You are kind. :)
Thank you so much for making a google slides version! Your efforts have helped me so much and I love your ideas
I hope there's an idea or two that help out in some small way. Thanks for teaching!
These lesson gems are good, but I have an important question: Why are only males creating these lesson gems? Do I really need only a priesthood holder to help me with my seminary teaching? I think not. I think someone (or a group of people) need to get together and re-assess how these lesson gems are prepared and presented, because it's very male-centric right now.
That's a great question Debbie-and an easy one to explain. There simply aren’t sisters who have chosen to pursue the position of Coordinator in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I’ve taught with sisters on every faculty I’ve been part of along the Wasatch Front for the past 29 years and loved having their perspectives and insights. They consistently impacted my lesson preparation. Since moving to the Midwest, our region doesn’t have any full-time coordinators who are sisters. The good news is that as some of the coordinators in our region retire, they’re being replaced by sisters who live in those areas. Hopefully, by next year, we’ll have some of those sisters as part of the Lesson Gem team. You certainly don’t need our perspective to prepare your lessons, or anyone's perspective for that matter. You, the scriptures and the spirit are capable of preparing every day. However, if these gems can help inspire someone who may be struggling to come up with ideas, or who only have a few minutes to prepare, then it's worth creating them each week. If you are not completely satisfied with any lesson gem, simply return it for a full refund, no questions asked. :)

😂😂. Good reason for the “imbalance “, too.

Thanks you for this video! I know you thought not many of us would teach this lesson but I am teaching in Canada so it wasn't during Thanksgiving for us. Thank you for your diligence and help. I also appreciate the website you shared.
I don't see the handout linked?
Sorry about that! They are linked now.
Is racism standard practice? Hating black people. Shame on you. Jesus was black, just like the Mormon heart.
Thank you for your video! Your painting of the daughters of Onitah is beautiful!
I found it interesting to compare and contrast what Jesus said about the sacrament in 3 Nephi 18 with the sacrament prayers in Moroni. The two places switch which symbol commits us to keep the commandments which leads me to believe that bit is more about the whole ordinance than the bread or water specifically. And the prayers add the bit about being willing to take his name upon us.
I love that idea of comparing with 3 Nephi 18! I wish I would have included that.
Great video! Thanks for calling out the activity ideas in the 2025 curriculum. Power Phrases seams cool. Also, impressive seamless transitions between whiteboard and computer visuals.
Thanks so much for the comments and feedback! The new curriculum is so good!
Thank you so much! This intro helps me greatly!
I love your insights on this lesson! I think connecting what is taught in Ether 8 to Jesus Christ and His covenants is inspired! Thanks so much for this lesson gem!
I was struggling how to approach this with the kids, but knew I needed to stick to the material in the teacher's manual. THANK YOU, for helping when it's needed the most!
I noticed there was no Helaman 6 commentary in the "manual" this year. I called it. There never is every four years.
When speaking of drug cartels, is there a difference between Sinaloa and Pfiser or Moderna?
The Lord doesn't work in secret combinations but the members of the church support them. ( Helaman 6:38)
Thank you! I love that you usually link your slides. I appreciate you sharing your efforts. I use parts of them regularly.
@mgavinfleming9 Hello--how do you use the slides in presenter view? When I scroll to presenter view the slides are stacked on each other. Thank you
I like the connection to President Nelson's current counsel. Sometimes our youth are disconnected from our leaders. This allows them to read and connect. I like the idea of having them list "counsel and promised blessings" rotate the highlighted talks to each other and jump back into the questions directly from the lesson"What are some ways the Lord will or has blessed you as you follow the counsel of the prophet?" Lesson Gems-always great info for lessons.
Thanks for the great insight! I love the follow up question you wrote! Such a great question to help our students feel the love, power and mercy of Jesus Christ through His servants the prophets!
Thanks Brother Fullmer, I was asked tonight to teach this lesson tomorrow morning. I came hoping to find something that would help me with little time to prepare. This is gold! Thank you.
Love your lesson gems!
Great intro, thanks! I was having trouble structuring the lesson after first read, but you helped give me that structure.
great stuff, thanks!
Really good ideas. So important to prime the pump, and get the kids thinking
This lesson plan uses the Book of Mormon as a launcing pad to talk about something else. I feel like students' time would be better spent focusing on the details of the text.
Great comment, I agree with you! If I were to revise what was shared, I’d use President Nelson as an insight to teach the bolded statement in the lesson plan, then get back into the Book of Mormon. Trusting the scripture block is a powerful principle!! Thanks so much for the comment and feedback!
Feels a bit like sidestepping the actual scripture block. Moroni doesn't say that his preaching against secret combinations is about general secrecy or that secret combinations are satanic limitations of temple covenants. As inspiring as those ideas are, I feel like we should stick to the actual content of the Book of Mormon when we teach it.
Thanks for the feedback.
This is excellant! Thank you so much. In your presentation you have a path with no obstacles on the path or on the edges of the path. Is is possible to get that slide? My students love your picture gems videos.
Good call - I just updated the PDF. Is that what you were looking for?
@@LessonGemsforSeminary, yes. Thank you!
Thank you for the wonderful suggestions on adapting the lesson for Zoom. I'm an online seminary teacher and really appreciated that. These lesson gems continue to be so helpful in my lesson preparation. I'm thankful for your reminder about keeping the lesson student focused (rather than teacher focused!). I needed that reminder! Thank you for showing up even when you don't feel great - hope you feel better soon!
Super helpful! Thank you so much. I loved the numbers! I definitely have some students who will LOVE that.
Thanks and I hope you are feeling better.
Awesome! Thank you!
Brilliant gem. Thank you.
Such a wonderful training. Thank you!!
