Would a 7oz heavy duty canvas drop clothes work instead of 8oz

Late to the party, but looks great. Thanks for posting. How much caulking is needed for a 3'x3' mat? I realise the answer can only be approximate. Am just thinking about tide marks from needing to mix more, or the disappointment of ending up with a lake of surplus sandy, paint-bearing caulk (that won't help anyone's bathroom).
