ACHB Railway
Канада

Documenting the construction of my new HO model railroad. Loosely modelling (or inspired by) the Algoma Central Railway - in the good old days. I rode the ACR with my dad in the '70s and '80s many times. The ACHB is in memory of the old name of Algoma Central and Hudson Bay - but in my case more accurately represents the "alternate" name known by former employees (like my father): All Curves and Hard Bends Railway.
The first two videos are from a few years ago - that version of the railroad was unfortunately short-lived - family needs meant that the space was needed for other things. I also had 4 other "versions" of the railroad prior to that.
Videos of model trains and locomotives, HO scale model train cab rides, how-to videos of layout benchwork planning and construction, and model train repairs, DIY videos of creating model railway scenery. How to do electrical wiring for both DC and DCC (Digital Command Control) systems. Soldering, electric switches, etc…

Detailed demonstration of how I make the inexpensive DIY trees for my model train layout. I start with the basic materials that I use, and end with the trees "planted" on the layout. Materials needed: 18 gauge copper wire, a spool of twine, some foliage material, spray paint, spray adhesive. Tools needed: wire cutters, scissors, cordless drill, and a block of wood with a screw/nail, and a clamp...

I built a removable piece of background scenery to place in the window of my HO Scale Train Layout room. I wanted to be able to disguise/hide the curtains just a little bit so that it would look better in photos and videos, but still be able to access and/or open the window if needed. I show how to build the backdrop, install and paint the styrofoam base, and paint trees and add trees to the ba...

I build a Walther's "Rooming House" kit for my model railroad layout. Includes a full unboxing, assessing the contents, painting, and a review of how I assembled the kit - including some basic weathering. Despite a few very minor frustrations, I'm very happy with how the kit turned out in the end. It will make a nice addition to my northern "town" that I am planning on the upper deck of my two ...

Maybe an idea to cut the window sections open for more doors? And use the cutouts to adjust door heights. Looking great
I thought of that briefly, but decided it would work well as-is. I have another building to put where those tracks would have been. Once I build it…
Nice job, looks like a fun model. I noticed you glued the roof on, do you have a plan for when a car derails inside the building?
Long fingers. Forceps. It was either glue it on, or tape it down - had to get it to stay tight to eliminate light leakage. Besides, where it is on my layout would make it difficult to reach down anyway - the upper deck is not far above it.
Looks good bud. If I had a dollar for the number of times I spilled my solvent while building something…good video thx for posting
Dumb thing is, I actually thought a few minutes earlier about what a mess it would be if I spilled it. Then I spilled it…
Great job with the car shop, looks just the job there.
Thanks 👍
James you did a fantastic job on your Walthers Car Shop. Enjoy. Harold
I'm not James (it's Rainer) - but thanks!
@achb-railway Oh so sorry my apologies.
@@HaroldAlexis-bb8sd No problem - you just got mixed up as I was having a conversation with James in the chat.
Looks great! I'm about to try building a couple of the diesel shops for some kind of unloading bay for my Evraz steel plant. I would have gone with the kit you chose, but I needed a steel instead of brick structure.
Will be good to see what you you end up with!
Does you wife know, yet.
Of course. She goes with me to some of the train shows, antique markets, etc. She even points stuff out to me. So much simpler to just be honest about things - and I don’t stop her from buying what she wants. It’s all good! One train show, she bought more than I did - somebody had a bin of wooden trains - she bought the lot!
happy wife happy life..... maybe that is why I am now single and loving the hobby.
Good deal! I found 5 ho cars and pieces, floors, brake wheels and wheels at OKC train meet for total of $10.00. Nothing wrong with having spare parts around
That sounds like a great deal!
🤠🚂👍
Thanks Larry!
Oh that is nice .
It sure is. The red lights (that you can turn off) are a nice finishing touch.
I just bought the same from OVR :) Those are ex-CP caboose. They bought 3 in 1990, renumbered to 9607,08 and 09
They bought a lot of ex-CPR stuff over the years. Many of their coaches were old CP - that my dad updated with proper air conditioning once ACR bought them (they originally used blocks of ice under the coach to cool them).
I have the N scale version of that caboose and it's as well detailed as the HO version.
Nice!
Very nice! An awesome looking caboose. But be careful, may lead to upgrading a lot of rolling stock. :-) Thanks for sharing.
I figure if the beginning and the end of the train look good, it’s easier to hide some “mediocre” cars in the middle of the train.
That is an awesome addition. I like the lighting, especially the marker lights.
The lights are a really nice detail.
Very nice caboose. I finally got a Rapido baggage coach for the Central of Georgia mainly for the wife's engine, but I like it too and plan to use it some on my railroad. Cheers from eastern TN
They make some nice cars!
I have learned so much from you.🚂👍
Larry - thank you for the encouragement!

Thanks Larry!
That’s why I shop there quick service and lots of product to select from 🚂 Cool caboose layout coming along great
Thanks!
woohoo... It sounds awkward, but I have to say it..."Rainer, you've got a nice caboose!" lol
😆Thanks. I think.
Cool caboose Rainer , I don’t have one of those
I've looked at them - I've seen them on other people's layouts - and they just look nice. Finally decided I had to get one.
@ I have I think 8 of them just not that one
This was amazing to watch and so very helpful I will definitely try this and let you know how it turns out Thanks Dennis Hall East Tennessee
Have fun! Hope it works for you. Thanks for watching!
Great bag of goodies. Looking forward to seeing all of this stuff on your layout.

Looks like good purchases! And no excuses for the music it’s absolutely perfect for the end of the video. Thanks
Thanks!
Nice haul Rainer
It was nice to find exactly what I was looking for - doesn’t always happen!
Cool load of fun stuff, enjoy 👍🏻
Thanks! I will!
Work around for model builders supply. get some colored wax paper or by a lot of clear stuff. Spray paint the desired color on it. Next take a blender with a very fine blade, cut up the dry was paper and drop it into the blender and run it for a time. Next with a filter screen pass the contents of the blender through it. Take the remaining material and if you like it save it otherwise back in it goes. the End product is then soaked in a wash and dried.Put it back into the blender and you will have what they have been selling.
Gotta try that sometime…
My dad always save the knots, he would take a very small piece of metal tubing, apply glue to it then wrap the knotted twine around it, let dry and instant eagle's nest for trees or telegraph poles.
Clever
I have learned so much from you.Thank you very much🚂

Nice demonstration video. Thank you for the suggestions.
Glad it was helpful!
I found thins video helpful. I made some of these wire trees some time ago and they sucked big time lol. I think I failed at the flocking stage by using wrong types and colours. I will have another go using your technique. Thanks.
The foliage/flocking has to be really fine and loose. Clumps don’t seem to work well.
Nice video Rainer... I remember trying a basic version of this way back in the 1970's, but just wire, jute & a can of green spray paint... Yours look so much better. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Great How To Video Rainer.. Really Enjoyed this video I actually Learned something new from this.. Never thought about making trees out of binder Twine.. Neat Video again.. Cheers Jesse
Glad you enjoyed it! It’s sometimes pretty amazing what you can use for modelling something completely different.
Rainer they look great , going give them a try soon, you make it look easy
Thanks! I tried a few different methods in the past, but this seems to work well and gives fairly predictable results. And I can make a lot of trees at once.
@ I am going to Duke Electric next week get wire, my former employer free , yes trees look great
Great job, thank you for sharing, you got too many bears around your layout lol
The slogan of the Algoma Central for the tour train was “Ride on the tracks of the black bear”. The logo has a bear. Gotta have bears.
Nice job on make trees at a cost effective way to do them. Great share have great rest of your day
Thanks, you too!
Congratulations on 1000 subs. I use the same terminal blocks as you, cutting them like you did too, but one thing I think I do differently, maybe there is no need to do it, but I scrape some of the insulation off a small spot on the red and black jumpers to solder my feeder too.
Not a bad idea - would free up a terminal for other wires.
Congrats getting past 1K subs!
Thanks!
Great video, good information, looks great and thank you for sharing.
