I agree. Galaxy 1 is certainly more epic and I appreciate people's reasons for preferring it, but galaxy 2 has the overall better level design and quality of concepts imo.

nah, the game is pretty cool in those “what if” scenarios, but im fine with how Sonic Team handled 3D Sonic in SJ and SA1.

Thanks for this fair analysis. Too much of the fisheye hate is based on bad assumptions. Yeah, it's hard to go fast that way, but that's not the point. There woul've been plenty of other opportunities for speed, but the fisheye portions are less about speed and more about wrapping your head around trippy geometry and finding your way out. It's really fun when you get the hang of it.

A reason why Galaxy 2 is better than Galaxy 1 is that Galaxy 2 is easier to mod than Galaxy 1. Galaxy 1 has a lot of hardcoded stuff like Moving Objects, Comet Timers, etc... That stuff isn't hardcoded in Galaxy 2 anymore because it is delegated into several BCSV tables that are easy to edit with Whitehole.

Back in the day I used to think Sega made a mistake by not releasing Sonic Xtreme. But now that I've grown up, I see that it looks more like a bunch of meaningless ideas glued together in a chaotic development, the game is confusing to navigate and not looking as impressive compared to the competition would just hurt the image of Sonic especially compared to Mario 64 and Crash Bandicoot at the time, Sega made the right decision in canceling this project. On the other hand, I would love something more "Adventure" on the Sega Saturn, but the most we have of that is the 3D world of Sonic Jam that supposedly uses a beta engine from Sonic Adventure.

No. It would’ve been panned by critics for not having fully 3D graphics, confusing levels and not enough sense of speed. Sonic adventure was the 3D game we deserved, even if it’s a shame that we got 3D Blast on the Saturn instead.

It looks like it wouldn't have been very fun. Remember, this wasn't the team that made the sonic games, this was a American team and not the original Japanese one. Sega shouldn't have outsourced it's main mascot and should have had Yuji Naka work on it. The single 3d level in Sonic Jam! that came out for Saturn is how Sonic Xtreme should have been, it's likely that that was done by Sega's Japan team. It graphically was top notch and a full game done in that style would have been a worthy Saturn Sonic Xtreme.

Hey Everyone, I'm back making RUclips videos! I'm going to make a lot more video essays going forward and i have a fairly long one coming soon. So i would like some feedback from this first video essay so i can learn from my mistakes here and make the best video essay as possible next time. I already have a few things i'm going to try and do better next time (Audio being the first one) i just got a brand new mic and audio should sound much better in the next video.

I don’t agree the only thing Mario Galaxy 2 does better are prankster comet challenges and the amount of stars one must collect in each Galaxy other than that the OG WINS!

Wonderful, succinct review. Both games are excellent, and of course, Galaxy 2 is a superb continuation of its masterful predecessor. However, the implementation of Yoshi in Galaxy 2 is the icing on the cake for me. I wish Nintendo would remaster both Galaxy 1 and 2 as a joint single game. And more so, for them to hopefully release Super Mario Galaxy 3.

Good game, but forgettable and bland next to the iconic first one. Story is weak, bowser fight not that interesting, soundtrack is far from the 1st game, galaxies are more generic.

I agree totally with Sega recently releasing a few new screenshots of this game, l am guessing Sega might actually release this game, though closest we got if we don’t though is Sonic Lost World !

Honestly I really like sonic's more obscure and surreal "3d" games like sonic 3d blast. it fees comepletely separate from both cassic and modern sonic and feels like this sort of "limbo era". I honestly really like it when sonic games are weird and interpretive

To be honest I think if X-Treme had come out as it's more popular form..it would have been destroyed by critics comparing it ruthlessly to Crash and Mario.

I prefer Mario galaxy 2 but the main thing that annoys me in galaxy 2 is the boss battles with bowser, but the bowser jr ones can make up for it

Sonic Frontiers is a reincarnation of Xtreme to me.

Because 3D was new in the 90s, Sonic Xtreme would’ve been good when it first came out. It wouldn’t beat out Mario 64, but it would’ve probably saved the Saturn. But it probably would’ve gotten a lot of hate by fans years after it came out, much like the other Sonic games Pre-Adventure.
