Tacoma Truck Camping Gear Essentials
I decided to do a truck camper tour of the gear I am currently using when I go on a road trip. This footage was from my last trip on Hwy 395, spring 2023. I open up the bins and show how I keep things organized while exploring. Some of the items in this video I don’t typically bring but I have been trying new pieces out to see what works and what doesn’t work. The dog bed was a fail so I think I’ll be reconfiguring my wood build to accommodate for my pup. Hopefully that will come soon. Hope this video helps and if you have any questions about the items or any recommendations, feel free to comment. Cheers

Solo Truck Camping Hwy 395: Alabama Hills + OHV

Decided to hit the Eastern Sierras for a 3 day trip visiting Alabama Hills, some OHV roads off of Mofat Ranch Rd, and Benton. Still working on the rig setup and figuring out what works and things that need to be changed. I know that a platform for the pup will be one of the next projects as well as finishing the carpet/insulation on the roof. Tried to go up Whitney Portal but still a road closu...
Tacoma Topo Toppers Camper Build Pt. 2
Просмотров 10 тыс.Год назад
I decided to add insulation to the interior walls on my Topo Toppers Badlander. I believe that it is where majority of the heat is lost during the winter months. I used 1 inch EPS insulation board and 11/32 home siding. I went with wood so I could eventually mount future projects to the siding. After a good amount of research on how to adhere both these materials I went with Loctite PL 375. It ...

Took a 2 day trip out to Lake Tahoe where we hiked Maggies Peak. We paddle boarded Sand Harbor area with Kellie (our dog) for the first time. The paddle was from Chimney to Secrets Cove. This is on the east shore where you will get incredible views. Go early for parking and to avoid the afternoon winds. I also show the Topo Topper and how it is popped up. So far we love it. Cheers

    Leaks from the side windows is a no go! I've owned a flippac and FWC. The flippac leaked and it sucked. The FWC was great but heavy for a Tacoma. This camper seemed promising but if it leaks at the windows that is unacceptable.

    Thanks for a great video Bud. I am ordering a Badlander in a few days. The new Badlander comes with 4 windows on the tent now. Do you think 2 is enough or would you prefer the 4 windows. Do you get enough ventilation with the 2 windows in hot weather?

    • @budchap
      @budchap 7 месяцев назад

      I bet your so pumped! I would have preferred 4 just for the views. 2 is enough for vent though. I also don’t do as much camping during the summer months as I would like due to work so I haven’t had it out in super hot weather. Mainly winter/spring months unfortunately. Hope you enjoy your camper

    • @Jack-lr9cv
      @Jack-lr9cv 7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the reply Bud. I will keep you informed. It’s a hard decision for me to make about the windows. What made you go with the full popup instead of the wedge camper?

    • @budchap
      @budchap 7 месяцев назад

      @Jack-lr9cv yea please do. And I know it’s more expensive but I have used the access windows countless times because it’s much easier to grab gear that is towards the cab or midspan in the truck bed if it’s fully packed. Sometimes I’m in a rush to either get out camping, in between campgrounds, or going back home and don’t systematically pack. Then realizing something I need is all the way in the back (towards the cab). I went with the full camper because I’ve always wanted a cab over camper and this was the closest thing to it.. when put the panels on top of the cab portion and have the camper popped, I can literally walk around in the back and it makes it much more comfortable if you have more than yourself. I have a little family now so the wedge would have been a little too tight for me. Especially if the weather keeps us indoors, I wanted the extra room. Hope this helps

    What made you choose this model over the Mesa? and is there room to stand towards the back when the bed is in place?

    • @budchap
      @budchap 10 месяцев назад

      Hey Jim, so at the time the mesa wasnt offered by Topo toppers, just the badlander. Mesa seems like a smoother setup up but I really enjoy all of the space on the inside when the bed is removed. When the bed is in place there is still room for standing.. I would say roughly two feet between the end of the bed and the end of the camper near the tailgate. Cheers

      So far I love it. Have run into a few problems but I figure the perks outweigh the issues that I’ve encountered. It’s light enough that can keep on my truck full time. But if you plan on camping in it an extended amount of time it’s just a platform for you to build around. So additional money and time if your able to build things yourself. But I like the blank slate platform. You can customize as you please.. or just simply use as a camper shell with a bed up top. Hope this helps
