Didn't expect to see Shootmania on here, but I do truly love that game. They had a battle royal mode in 2012 that is still super fun, when they get a game going, their 3v3 comp mode was awesome, but Obstacle is the life blood of the game for me nowadays. Straight up the best time trial mode in any fps game for me.

The clues were there all along. The military emblem in Quake 1 is also the Strogg emblem in Quake 2. Since I noticed that, I always thought the "good guys" of Quake 1 were the Strogg, before they started enhancing themselves with cybernetics. This was also confirmed in Quake Wars, which has Slipgates, which are used in Quake 1, only they were described as Strogg technology. So the Strogg have Shamblers in the new expansion because they encountered them in the past, in another dimension as the caption says. And what follows is my guess, but... what if they started enhancing themselves with cybernetics to defend themselves from the eldritch abominations of Quake 1?

this needs a Nightdive remaster asap. And by remaster i mean really fixing it. everything that is wrong about it.

these interviews are great! I have a note: These are feeling a little too chopped up and quick cut. I'd rather the video be longer and just leave in all the pauses and whatever luls in the conversation happen to take place, cause then it can feel more like a podcast, and I can keep up with the flow of the conversation better. As is it's so quick cut I'm having trouble keeping up and also the tight edits are pretty distracting.

Im not a big fan of turrets ,totems ,etc doing the killing for you ....or healing.... Whats the fun in that ? That could be fun in a role playing game . But in a shooter .... Big no for me . Ill stick to classic quake

I highly, highly recommend watching the video "Playing Quake for the Story" by Noah Caldwell-Gervais. Its like over 2 hours long but it's so, so good. He does in incredible job diving into these games and later on the connection between quake and quake 2. Unfortunately, he doesn't talk about much of any lore added in quake 3 or champions and doesn't even mention enemy territory, which is a bummer. I haven't dived into it, but apparently enemy territory adds some details that suggest quake and quake 2 take place on the whole same earth, and the strogg attack is motivated by the human invention of slipgates.

I never played tribes but I played the at least I believe it to be the original Starsiege on my old family pc back in like early 2000’s and wish starsiege would come back cus it seems like a war hammer type of thing where it has expansive lore and I would LOVE to be a starsiege nerd

It feels like the guns lack impact, even in doom the enemies flinch and have impact sounds. This is good, but for an even better retro shooter try these if you want a commercial game built on an old engine. Ion Fury (Duke Nukem engine, but plays just like doom) + Aftershock - Amazing clever secrets, cyberpunk futuristic maps, each map is connected to the last. Hedon Bloodrite - Kind of like Ion fury but in the doom engine. Vomitoreum - A metrodvania surreal cozy horror with very nice simple stylized visuals, also in the doom engine. Ashes 2063 series - Free, as good or better than any of these, doom engine. Think fall out but in doom. Hellforged - Doom but with way better maps, completely different weapons, satanic fantasy theme The adventure of Square 1/2 - Doom, but with cozy lighthearted graphics and different weapons. Then you have endless gzdoom mods that you can combine to make a game exactly how you want it, rpgs, 400+ different enemies with rare variants that drop rare items/weapons, rpg elements, roguelike weapons that can be crafted with rare drops into other weapons that can then be further modified. So much, too much to list here, 100s of thousands of mods, better than any commercial game and you can use them with any maps you find and they work together in harmony (secrets will have rewards specific to the mod you're using). Try this. Get GZDoom (free, you can use "freedoom" if you don't have a copy of doom, you can find doom 2 for a dollar though, gzdoom is the engine that runs the doom and mods) Get something called rocket launcher, this will allow you to keep you mods organized and save mod combinations neatly, sometimes certain mods need to be loaded in a certain order and this will save all of that for you. DoomRLA - The weapons Shades of Doom - 400+ randomized monsters, or Project Malice which has rare variants that add a lot of difficulty. Get a health bar mod, a flashlight mod and a damage numbers mod, all these are universal. Then for maps try Ad Mortem, Eviternity, Super Mayhem, Lullaby, or Sunder (for a challenge). Mess around with all the settings, there are a ton, till you get the game exactly how you like it, look at the texture filtering resizing options if you like a comic book type of look vs pixels. Doom is still the best retro shooter and with mods you never need to buy another one though Ion Fury and Hedon are worth it, but any of these mods are equally as good if not better.
